Former San Francisco Mayor turned lunatic Willie Brown stopped by Wayfare Tavern recently. Much to his dropped jaw's horror, the downtown restaurant no longer serves the deviled eggs Mr. Brown so desperately, so deeply craves. Best of all, he goes nuts about it in his most recent column, and then God only knows. The man is a genius/possibly a total mess. Let's dive in...

"It was a signature on the menu since the restaurant opened, so I called the manager over. He said it was on the menu for four years, and since so many other places were doing them nowadays, they decided to replace it," Brown writes. "What did they replace it with? They said pretty much nothing. So I just ordered the hamburger and got the hell out of there."

Fabulous. That is a shit fit bordering on Diana Ross-ian. He adds: "I’m going to get a hold of the Google Bus protesters and tell them I have another job for them: Save the Wayfare Deviled Egg."

Continuing his Godzilla-like quest for eggs of the satanic variety, Mr. Brown stomps over to Park Tavern — whose deviled eggs, in my excellent opinion, are the best in the city — where his insatiable appetite is held at bay. For now. Meanwhile, a bruised and hobbled Tyler Florence lays incapacitated inside Willie's basement, Misery-style, forever forced to pipe yolk mixture for Mr. Brown's childlike pleasure.

Godspeed, Tyler. Godspeed.

Why? Well, they have about a half dozen reasons, none of which really relate to the shuttle bus protests, which leads someone like me to think back to the Occupy movement and want to scream, "STAY ON MESSAGE, PEOPLE."

Protesters (it's unclear how many were in attendance) distributed a flier detailing the many, many grievances they have against Google, the coporation, the NSA, capitalism in general, and Google X developer Anthony Levandowski in particular. Levandowski lives on Ashby Avenue in Berkeley (we'll refrain from broadcasting a photo of his home, as the protesters did), he helped develop Google Street View, was voted one of 10 Techies to Watch last year, and he is part of the Google X lab that's responsible for Google Glass and Google's self-driving car project.

Indybay notes the protesters chose to block Levandowski's commute, assuming he was even home that day and not telecommuting, because he "develops war robots for the military and builds surveillance infrastructure" and because he has "plans to develop luxury condos in Berkeley." Reportedly they blockaded his driveway for 45 minutes before moving on to the Ashby BART station, where they blockaded a Google bus and had "conversations" with several Google employees before being dispersed by Berkeley police.

This all occurred Tuesday, the same day that protesters blockaded Google shuttles on mid-Market on the same day that the MTA was holding a vote about corporate shuttles.

Furthermore, from the flier:

It is not naivete that drives the heads of Google and people like Anthony Levandowski to go forward with their plans to create technology that only reinforces the domination that exists in society. Google actively collaborates with the defense industry, an industry more and more focussed on quelling social dissent.
...

Anthony Levandowski is currently trying to create his own cyber-capitalist utopia in the great city of Berkeley... he has hired the Nautilus Group to construct a proposed 77-unit apartment building call Garden Village complete with rooftop gardens, 24-hour surveillance, private security, and a fleet of electric vehicles parked in an underground garage... The Nautilus Group is composed of designers and builders who have created military installations, malls, and hospitals... The proposed project is a testament to the arrogance, disconnection, and luxury of the ruling class.
...

There are men and women in the Congo, slaving away in giant pits in order to extract gold and other precious metals from the earth. This gold will go into phones and tablets made by companies like Google, Apple, and Microsoft.
...

The blind man buying Taco Bell and the consumer saving his dad are the heroes of this tech-utopia. The pit miners and factory workers are ignored and forgotten. As long as capitalism functions, everything it is connected to will be poisoned with its sickness. People like Levandowski are gentrifying neighborhoods, flooding the market with noxious commodities, and creating the infrastructure for an unimaginable totalitarianism. This is the evil that we stake our lives against.

Got all that? Connections are also made to NSA surveillance, the "surveilled" spaces in this proposed condo project, how this surveillance will likely be directed at the low-income tenants in the projects in the seven mandated low-income units, and the fact that Google recently purchased Boston Dynamics, the robotics firm with connections military contracts for war machines.

Anyway, it's unclear whether or not the protesters' messages were heard by Levandowski, but their fliers were spread throughout the neighborhood. And one can assume that public hearings about his condo project will be loud, and long.

And I just want to say that while the size of Google, as a brand and company, is pretty overwhelming at this point, are they really suggesting going to war with Google, as an enterprise? Is Google the new Blackwater? Did we really jump from being annoyed with corporate shuttles and rising rents to turning Google into an evil tech empire? How did we get here?

I'd so much rather the anti-Google contingent just make more videos like this.

Who would have thought that troubled closer Brian Wilson, who once shilled for Mayor Ed Lee, would one day stand in AT&T Park, dressed in a Dodgers garb, and throw a temper tantrum about his World Series ring. But that's what happened at last night's game.

After the Giants’ 3-2 victory against the Dodgers Thursday night, WIlson walked over to Giants CEO Larry Baer to shout and point wildly. It seems, at least according to the Giants, he was upset over his World Series ring, which he had yet to receive.

Schulman has more:

Wilson’s actions stunned Baer and Giants officials, who said they tried repeatedly throughout the season to meet with Wilson so the ring could be presented, and that he never responded, even when the Giants invited him to the ring ceremony during the first weekend of the home season.

“I don’t know why he decided to make a show of it and air his grievance tonight,” team spokeswoman Staci Slaughter said.

Although we cannot hear what happens, we can watch Wilson confront Baer below:

Your browser does not support iframes.

However. According to CSN Bay Area, Wilson might have also been upset over the lack of security at last night's game when he was in the bullpen, where he was booed by the crowed. You can see him pointing at the right field line, which could indicate his frustration with security.

Anyway, after the confrontation, the Giants sent the World Series ring to the Dodgers clubhouse to give to Wilson.

In other news, last night's game might have been (and in all likeliness was) Tim Lincecum's last game with the Giants. A free agent after the season, he may head to Seattle. And despite a devolving performance, Bruce Bochy said: "I was very happy for him with the job he did tonight ... You could see the fans behind him, you could see the signs of support. We don't know what's going to happen, but we certainly hope he's here with us (next season)."

More specifically, the study found that the bacteria in those dirty vaginas of theirs (We kid! Love you, ladies!) can make women more likely to transmit the virus to their male partners.

Published in the journal PLoS Medicine last month, the study looked at 2,236 couples in sub-Saharan Africa where women, especially those aged 15-24 are already eight times more likely to be HIV-positive than men. The study found that women with bacterial vaginosis — or as it's more poetically known: "a disruption of the normal vaginal flora" — were three times more likely to pass the virus on to their male partners than women with (ahem) healthy flora.

While it's still unclear what it is about BV that makes one more likely to transmit HIV, lead author Dr. Craig Cohen of UCSF's OB/GYN & Reproductive Sciences Department, explained that the condition is incredibly common, almost to the point of normality. It affects up to 55% of women in parts of Africa and other resource-poor countries and it is hard to spot because it generally doesn't have much in the way of visible symptoms. As Dr. Cohen put it to the Chronicle: "People don't consider bacterial vaginosis a healthy, natural state. But if you have half the population of women with BV, it begs the question of what's normal."

Meanwhile, Dr. Michael Horberg, director of HIV/AIDS over at Kaiser Permanente, helpfully offered some advice on what this means for the ladies in the audience: "The take-home message is clearly that bacterial vaginosis, when seen, needs to be treated."

He wrote about the festivities in his Sunday column for The Chronicle. Once again, however, we leave Brown's golden nuggets of wisdom amused yet confused. Behold:

M.C. Hammer had a happening happy birthday the other night with about 300 guests at the Fairmont's legendary Tonga Room.

Half of them were in white suits, white ties and white shoes, which apparently is a Hammer thing.

The former rapper has turned himself into quite a voice on the Internet, with hundreds of thousands of people following his blog and tweets about culture and dance.

It's almost like he's an Internet version of that old Saturday morning dance program, "Soul Train."

And the Google folks are treating it like a gold mine.

What is he talking about? No, really, what is he talking about? We have no idea what Hammer's aforementioned Twitter followers have to do with Google. Maybe Willie thinks blog/tweet traffic (does Hammer have a blog? Ah, yes, he has a Blogger account AND his own search engine) means Google traffic? Maybe he thinks the internet is called Google? Or...something? It's all a bit senseless. Then again, if we ruled San Francisco with an invisible glove, as Brown does, we sure as hell would write about whatever we wanted for city's most popular paper, no matter how loopy the content — even advertorial for Subway sandwiches.

Oh look! Another ad from Supreme Master TV, one that will, hopefully, bring you nobility and spirituality. And this one is in massive billboard form, found above Harrison between Fourth and Third streets.

Speaking of San Francisco's favorite, veggie, sort-of cult-ish religion, we've been getting updated comments on our original post about Supreme Master Ching Hai. One commenter, "Zelda," said, "My sibling is currently involved in helping with her web TV station. My family is very worried about her and wish to bring her back home which will take planning on our part. I am wondering if you were part of her cult at one time or know of any ex-supreme master ching hai followers. We are currently keeping in touch but know she is not telling us everything. Thanks."

Anyone else know if, in fact, Ching Hai is preparing a cyanide-infused kale tofu frittata to serve to her followers, or what?

Morning Mystery Plume Above The Bay?!

As the preternaturally calm Brandon Wong rose this morning to take in the sunrise over by <a href=http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&view=text&hl=en&q=anza+street,+san+francisco&ie=UTF8&ll=37.778924,-122...

SF News

halp

help

photo

photography

photos

tip

tips

what

wtf

SFist Christopher Rogers

As the preternaturally calm Brandon Wong rose this morning to take in the sunrise over by Anza in the Richmond, he saw something in the east that didn't make sense.

"It's just bizarre," he wrote, "I thought it was a volcano."

What is that? A fire? Chevron venting something? What could create such an odd plume?

Did you see it? you see it? Weigh in with your comments.

Thanks to our commenters for the great info! Here's how to block unwanted ads, info via wchase via Scott Beale. Someone within the aforementioned discussion sent a complaint to Google about these ads, and they were taken off the site within thirty minutes.
