The animated films of Pixar are all rich with details that reward multiple viewings, and for years fans have exchanged the small clues online that suggest that all of the movies are somehow linked. Taking it further, Cracked put out this video a couple years ago discussing the theory that all Pixar movies take place in the same universe, and taken together they spell out "a timeline for the robot apocalypse." Hobbyist film critic Jon Negroni took up that theory and traced his own visual examples of Pixar's little Easter eggs on Tumblr and on his blog, and in brief it goes something like this: If Brave takes place, chronologically, first on the timeline, one can trace the witch's magic in that film to the sentient toys, animals, and monsters in films like Toy Story, Finding Nemo, and Monsters Inc. Pixar has also made references to the same evil corporation multiple times, BNL or Buy-N-Large, which is the global enterprise that rules everything in the time of Wall-E, but is also the company that's trying to oust the old guy from his house in Up, and makes appearances in Finding Nemo and Toy Story 3 (Buzz Lightyear's batteries are BNL brand, as we see in one shot).

You can, in fact, go kind of deep with this. Sully the monster from the Monsters movies appears as a carved figure in Brave, too, and there's also the theory that the witch in that movie is actually just the grown up little girl from Monsters Inc., Boo, who time-travels back to medieval Scotland or whatever to find Sully, and her love for him is the crux of the entire animated universe. Also, the young girl from Inside Out showed up in Finding Dory, did you catch that?

There's also a piece of this about the AI machines that originate with the Omnidroid in The Incredibles, and evolve into talking cars (Cars and Cars 2), and later Wall-E. Also, A Bug's Life could be depicting Earth post-apocalypse, after Wall-E helps that plant grow, but without many humans around.

And there's a Pizza Planet delivery car that shows up in multiple movies.

Today Pixar provides a three-minute video, posted to the Toy Story Facebook page, that traces some (but not all) of these Easter egg connections, though it doesn't confirm the full theory, because the Pixar people were probably too busy making movies to come up with this overarching, multi-century-spanning, totally insane plot structure.

Below, fodder for more stoner conversation.

A naked man who allegedly attacked a police officer remains behind bars today, as investigators seek video taken by members of the public who witnessed the incident.

San Francisco Police Department spokesperson Officer Giselle Talkoff says that the confrontation went down on September 9, on the 3800 block of 25th Street, which is between Dolores and Church Streets.

It was 6:21 a.m., Talkoff says when an SFPD officer responded to reports of "a naked male chasing people and throwing a branch at pedestrians."

Upon arrival, Talkoff says the officer "encountered a partially nude male" later identified as 37-year-old San Diego resident Robert Mathew Kaplan.

Or, as area resident Ryan Goodman described it, "Naked crazy guy terrorizing the neighborhood."

Talkoff says that Kaplan "was talking to himself," and engaged in "a physical fight" with the responding officer, who "sustained an injury to his right eye after the suspect attempted to gouge out the officer's eye," Talkoff says.

"The officer also sustained a severe bite mark to his right cheek after the suspect bit the officer's face. The officer also sustained cuts to his hands and abrasions to his forearms while trying to restrain the subject."

Talkoff says it took at least three officers to restrain Kaplan, who she characterized as "combative."

Eventually, he was cuffed and placed into custody. He's since, Talkoff says, been charged with "felony battery on a peace officer, felony battery causing serious bodily injury, felony assault with a deadly weapon, felony vandalism, felony aggravated mayhem, and obstructing and resisting a peace officer."

A spokesperson with the San Francisco Sheriff's Department confirms that Kaplan remains in custody as of Thursday morning, even as Mission Station investigators continue to build their case against him. According to Talkoff, police are now "seeking the assistance of the public in providing any cell phone video that may have captured the assault." Any witnesses or those who caught video of the altercation are asked to call the Mission Station Investigation Team during business hours at 415-558-5400, to leave their information anonymously at the SFPD Tip Line at 415-575-4444, or to Text-a-tip to TIP411 after beginning the message with "SFPD."

Video: Two Planes Landing At SFO In Beautiful Synchronicity

It's pretty cool.

Arts & Entertainment

airports

flights

planes

SFO

video

Jack Morse

While it won't make everything right with the world, this short video of two planes landing simultaneously at SFO is pretty cool. And it might, just for a few seconds, provide you with a brief moment of respite from the soul-crushing news of this week.

The video, shot by a passenger and published to YouTube yesterday, has already been viewed over 100,000 times.

In it you can see a United jet slowly descend over the Bay and gently land on an SFO runway — almost exactly in time with the plane the person filming is sitting in. Strangely, no one on board applauds, but that's OK — we still know it's rad.

Things took a turn for the unexpected at a Burlingame donut shop early Monday morning when a trio of men showed up wanting more than just a dozen glazed. Surveillance video from the Royal Donut shows one man hopping the counter just before 5:00 a.m., gun drawn, and forcing the clerk into a back room while two other men quickly work at getting the shop's ATM out the front door. As reported by KRON4, one suspect points a gun right in the employee's face and tries to force him into a back office. As shown on the video, however, the donut slinger just wasn't having it, and decided to fight back.

A brawl ensues, and the men scuffle on the floor as the robber attempts to tie the employee up with an apron. The gun is dropped, and the thief grabs some bakery equipment to continue the struggle — waving the metal mixing item above his head wildly.

The entire thing is terrifying to watch, and is made only barely less so by the fact that police determined a gun dropped by one of the suspects turned out to be fake. The unnamed store owner handed the video over to police, and told KRON 4 she hopes the men are caught soon.

"I don't want anyone else to go through what we just went through," she noted. "You know, everyone here is just really shaken up."

Police have yet to identify the suspects, and no arrests have been made.

Video depicting a woman pulling her dog along with a rope while she drives a car has resulted in allegations of animal cruelty and an investigation by Stockton animal services. The cellphone video, shot by fellow driver Amanda Brajkovich, was picked up by Stockton's Fox 40 and includes a confrontation between Brajkovich and the unknown woman.

"Disgusting," Brajkovich can be heard exclaiming.

"If you're going to be a dog owner, a responsible dog owner, then you need to get out and walk your dog you know, don't be lazy,” Brajkovich told the channel. “First thought was 'oh my god this dog is going to get hurt' you know, maybe a car's going to go past him and hit him.”

This all went down on Sunday just outside of Stockton's Louis Park, and at first did not elicit more than a shrug from the city's police department. “At this point it appears there was no animal cruelty,” a representative with Stockton Police told Fox 40. However, "the driver would have been cited for distracted driving."

But not so fast, as according to CBS 13, Phillip Zimmerman of Stockton animal services is looking into the matter and could recommend that charges be filed under California Penal Code 597T, which has to do with ensuring animals don't get tangled in their chains or leashes.

Regardless, the dog was essentially running in the middle of the street, which is not a comforting sight for any dog lover — including Brajkovich. "Like even if it wasn't hurting the dog, you're taking the chance of somebody else hurting your dog.”

Surveillance video released yesterday by the Berkeley Police Department depicts a terrifying scene: A man casually standing around a well-lit gas station before pulling a gun out of his pants and firing what appears to be at least six shots across the street. A statement issued yesterday by BPD confirms that the intended target was a 39-year-old homeless man, who, thankfully, was not struck by the gunfire.

This all went down around 3:35 a.m. on the morning of April 14 at, according to CBS 5, the Touchless Car Wash at 2176 Kittredge Street. Bullet holes were found by police in the building across the street, but luckily no one in that building was reported hit.

"From video surveillance and witness statements the suspect is described as a black or dark skinned male, 6’0' to 6’03”, thin build, wearing a black t-shirt with a design on the front, chain around his neck, dark colored 'bucket' hat, tan pants, and white shoes," reads the police statement on the incident. "Following the shooting, the suspect fled south on Fulton Street and west on Bancroft Way. The suspect is currently unidentified and the weapon also remains outstanding."

As is clearly visible in the video, a random person can be seen casually strolling by the gas station as the shooter pulls out his gun and begins firing. That person took off running, and police are seeking the individual out as a witness.

If you know anything about the shooting, BPD is asking that you call them at 510-981-5741.

Surveillance cameras outside of Valencia Street theater Stage Werx captured a distressing scene this past Friday, wherein a thief cut the lock off a bike with some sort of power tool — making a huge scene in the process — while several people passed by and appeared to neither care nor really even notice.

Perhaps most bizarre are the two individuals who appear to be trying to get into the theater — they don't even bother to turn around even though the theft is happening right behind them. At some point in the video a cyclist pulls up, asking "Is that your bike?" before the man rides off. “Well, it looks like he just stole that bike,” she observes.

And let's just get this obvious point out there: No one is advocating that you try to physically prevent a bike theft in progress, especially if you're pushing a baby in a stroller. However, is it too much to ask that someone take a photo of the criminal to later show to the police?

SFPD Officer Carlos Manfredi spoke with the Chronicle, and pretty much summed up our thoughts after seeing the video. “Oh my goodness, did you see those sparks flying?” observed Manfredi. “It’s still daylight and he didn’t seem to care one bit. It’s very sad."

Indeed.

According to Manfredi, the bike has yet to be recovered.

It seems that one Bay Area car mechanic may have watched Ferris Bueller's Day Off a few too many times. Video posted to YouTube, that looks to have been shot from the dash-cam of a car getting serviced at the Palo Alto Audi dealership, appears to depict a mechanic taking the car for a joyride, blasting music, and snorting drugs of some sort.

The owner of the car was not amused.

"You take your Audi for service and do not expect your vehicle to get abused," a title card reads in all caps (we toned it down for you) at the beginning of the video. "Check out how this vehicle was treated! Thanks Audi Palo Alto!"

The video, which according to a time stamp was recorded on April 12, shows the car being driven at high rates of speed and seems to capture the audio of someone doing lines (you can later hear the driver giggling). A simple comparison between the video and Google Maps looks to confirm that it was indeed shot at Audi Palo Alto.

Now, there are a few obvious cuts in the video, and while appearing for the sake of chopping out the non-offending parts (leaving that sweet sweet outrage-inducing material in), they could point to the entire thing being faked. We reached out directly to the service department at the dealership in question, but our call just went to voicemail. Audi, however, did issue an official statement on the video which was posted by Autoblog.

"An unfortunate incident was brought to our attention earlier this week," the statement read in part. "We immediately began our investigation and have already taken action. We are working with the customer involved and have thanked them for bringing this matter to our attention."

Which, if you ask us, reads a lot like their mechanic was joyriding and doing coke in a customer's car.

This much we already knew, but video depicting an apparently drunk California man being thrown off a Jet Blue plane last Friday really drives the point home. According to ABC 7, the flight was from Long Beach to Sacramento, and the plane was still on the runway when things got heated.

The man in the video, identified by the Daily Mail as David Brackett, proceeds to let loose a torrent of nonsense, including bragging about how smart and rich he is.

"You're a fucking idiot," he tells another passenger. "I have a 176 IQ," he adds before calling the passenger "Mr. Bald" who "can't grow a set of hair" (whatever that means). "I'm 28, I make $4 million a year — what do you do?" (He later says he's 27, so his exact age is unclear.) He then proceeds to brag about his six homes.

The Daily Mail suggests that Brackett is the vice president of a California real estate and mortgage company. The video, filmed by fellow passenger Sara Bear, was posted to an airline steward Facebook page and has since gone viral. Brackett, after being taken off the plane, and presumably sobering up, issued an apology and blamed the 10 minute long outburst on PTSD.

“I’m not blaming anybody but myself for the actions that I did," CBS 2 reports him as saying. "The PTSD thing that I do have, it’s the first time where I’ve had to do something that I regret." The channel notes that Brackett claims to have developed Post Traumatic Stress Disorder from a motorcycle crash.

While on the plane, Brackett also took the time to brag about his superb eyesight. "I've got 20/20 vision," he excitedly told his fellow passengers. He also threatened to sue the passenger filming the incident.

Two other passengers were also thrown off the plane — one of whom threatened to assault Brackett. As soon as Brackett was escorted off, the other passengers cheered.

Bark beetles. They are not a new phenomenon for California's pine forests, however our ongoing drought, now in its fourth or fifth year depending on who you ask, has stressed the trees to the point that they're no longer producing much sap. This means that the trees' natural defense against the beetles — the sap which drips out and envelops them after they've eaten some bark — isn't as plentiful. This means that the beetles are succeeding in killing more trees, and as a result they're also reproducing in greater numbers and spreading across forests.

The upsetting but beautiful drone footage above, via Dane Christensen, shows how many trees in this one forest have been affected — you can see by the brownness of their needles.

Says Christensen, "While outside Yosemite in Oakhurst, I saw the brown swaths of forest while driving. I threw up my drone and the aerial perspective revealed a haunting view of dying forest as far as the eye (or drone) could see. Tony, who lives in the forest, told me about the bark beetle epidemic and is the narrator in what I call a 'drone-umentary.'"

Traffic on the eastern span of the Bay Bridge came to a standstill this past Sunday, but, unlike pretty much every other day, hapless commuters were not to blame. Instead, once again a group of organized, joyriding motorists intentionally blocked traffic on the bridge for the express purpose of burning rubber and driving in circles. According to KRON4, the California Highway Patrol received multiple phone calls reporting the sideshow Sunday evening, and they believe that up to fifty cars participated.

Sunday's incident follows on years of donut-doing thrill-seeking on the Bay Bridge and elsewhere in the Bay Area — just last February a car was filmed on the western span of the bridge doing the same thing, and both times video of the sideshow was posted to the same Instagram account.

Sideshows have a long and dangerous history in the Bay Area, and high profile locations like the Bay Bridge seem to have a particular appeal. In 2014 a similar video was shot on the Golden Gate Bridge, proving that stupidity is both timeless and boundless. But, hey, I guess we already knew that.

No arrests have been reported, but CBS 5 notes that CHP obtained a license plate of one of the involved vehicles which should assist in a potential future apprehension — assuming they can catch him.

Sure, DC has their eagle-cam or whatever, and while that definitely is cool, they're not the only ones with a livestream of a raptor once almost driven to extinction nesting in their metro area. We bring you the Peregrine Falcon Cam. The video (and yes, you can zoom in) shows a pair of falcons that has taken up residence on top of the downtown PG&E building. At the time of this writing, the mother bird appears to be doing a bit of a dance move, shuffling about on the nest to get more comfortable atop three recently laid eggs — it's awesome.

The stream is the result of a collaboration between PG&E and the Santa Cruz Predatory Bird Research Group, a group affiliated with the University of California. At some point, should all go according to the bird's plan, you will be able to see the chicks hatch live.

According to ABC 7, "another family" of Peregrines took up residence in the same spot two years ago — but wouldn't this be the same nesting pair that keeps returning to the same spot? SFist covered the Falcon Cam that was installed here at PG&E headquarters in 2011 when a pair of baby falcons hatched there, born to parents Dapper Dan and Diamond Lil, who at the time were estimated to be one of approximately 250 nesting pairs in the state.

"Powerful and fast-flying, the Peregrine Falcon hunts medium-sized birds, dropping down on them from high above in a spectacular stoop," explains The Cornell Lab of Ornithology. "They were virtually eradicated from eastern North America by pesticide poisoning in the middle 20th Century. After significant recovery efforts, Peregrine Falcons have made an incredible rebound and are now regularly seen in many large cities and coastal areas."

You can watch the livestream on PG&E's website.

After a video depicting an African American student at San Francisco State University accusing a white student of cultural appropriation for sporting dreadlocks went viral, we were left with a series of questions. Namely, was this absurd encounter staged? And, are white-guy dreadlocks still a thing? Also: Don't these kids know that this argument about cultural appropriation got tired about 20 years ago? A reporter with Golden Gate Xpress, SFSU's campus paper, caught up with the dreadlocks guy and her interview further proves our thesis from yesterday — basically, everyone involved in the situation comes out looking like an idiot.

The Xpress reports that the dreadlocks guy is environmental science major Cory Goldstein, and the woman is photography major Bonita Tindle. The filmed bit of the encounter took place around 4 p.m. on Monday, but it began earlier.

"I looked at her, and she said 'Sorry, we don't want people with your hair here,'" Goldstein explained to the paper. This is after Tindle allegedly offered him a flier for an event, but then retracted the offer. "I was like, 'Wow, that's really rude,' and I walked away from the situation. She then apparently followed me down two flights of stairs to approach me about this whole situation."

Goldstein further says he "tried to leave multiple times," but "she kept grabbing me, pushing me back."

Now, regardless of what you think about Goldstein's hair, we can all agree that no one deserves to be accosted for his or her hairstyle. It is this vital bit that Tindle seems to have missed — a fact which is made abundantly clear in the beginning of the original video when she can be heard asking another individual "you got some scissors?" Implying, of course, that she's going to cut off Goldstein's dreadlocks right then and there.

“Someone within an activist group thought that she could attack me based on my locks and that’s not okay — it’s not even a part of, like, the colored community’s culture,” Goldstein whitesplained to the Xpress. “I felt that I didn’t need to explain myself. My hair, my rules, my body.”

As to the charge of cultural appropriation? Goldstein isn't buying it, furthering that "someone having locks which is found universally across the world, not just within African culture, but everywhere actually, that is not cultural appropriation in my view." He might want to reconsider using the term "colored community," however, in future.

Goldstein says he will not press charges, however KRON 4 reports that the person who filmed the encounter (which ends with the camera being smacked) has asked that charges be filed.

“I really am hoping that the campus is able to fully resolve this issue without any more issues basically," noted Goldstein. "I don’t feel that me getting attacked should cause more of an attack.”

As you already know, a couple weeks ago Instagram announced that they'd be swapping their chronological feed for one "based on the likelihood you’ll be interested in the content, your relationship with the person posting and the timeliness of the post," which makes no sense to me because I mainly follow people out of hate.*

People, especially famous people and brands whose self-worth and/or livelihood is based on follower numbers and likes, freaked out about this change on Monday, entreating users to "turn on notifications" to avoid missing any of their pearls of wisdom, etc. Which, OK! If you want to be notified every morning at 4 when The Rock goes to the gym, don't let me stop you. (But, come on, if you're going to do that, then turn on my dog's notifications too, because he just as cute as The Rock and anyone who knows me is aware that that is not a comparison I make lightly.)

But those same celebs and businesses who were exercised about the feed order changes (which Instagram continues to assert have yet to be made) might be somewhat appeased by the news that the company has pumped up the length of video clips posted on the site.

According to an announcement posted by the company on Tuesday, "We want to bring you fun, flexible and creative ways to create and watch video on Instagram. As part of our continued commitment, you’ll soon have the flexibility to tell your story in up to 60 seconds of video. This is one step of many you’ll see this year."

To someone already anxious about changes to the beloved social media service, that last line feels a little ominous, doesn't it?

If you're an Apple user, they are "also bringing back the ability to make videos out of multiple clips from your camera roll." Sorry, Android folks, guess you're stuck single-clipping it.

"Longer videos mean more diverse stories from the accounts you love, whether it’s Selena Gomez (@selenagomez) hanging out with friends or beauty star Bretman Rock’s (@bretmanrock) latest makeup tutorial," they write. An increase in video content from regular human beings, such as your family or friends, is not mentioned. But will also be likely, as they say that the longer video function started rolling out Tuesday "and will be available for everyone in the coming months."

*This is a lie, a falsehood issued for dubiously comedic effect. I stopped hate-following across all my social media accounts on New Year's Day, 2013, and my life improved immeasurably. And I then realized how sick it is to follow shit you dislike! Like, really, really sick. Why did I do it for so long? ANYWAY. I urge you to try it, and only follow people, publications, and brands that you like. Life is too short!

A video that appears to show a San Francisco State University student taking her fellow student to task for having dreadlocks has gone viral, prompting an investigation by campus police. KRON 4 reports that despite claims made in the YouTube link, none of the individuals involved are employed by the school.

The short video, shot March 28, shows an African American woman confronting a young white man over his dreadlocks, and features the following gem of an exchange:

Dreadlocked Guy: "You're saying that I can't have a hairstyle because of your culture? Why?"
Lady: "Yeah, because it's my culture. Do you know what dreadlocks mean?"

As dreadlock man says something about them coming from Egypt and attempts to walk away, the woman appears to grab his arm. "Yo girl, stop touching me right now," he replies. The video ends with the woman smacking the camera.

While we can not confirm that this whole drama was not staged for viral effect (a couple of more cynical SFist staffers think so), a statement from school officials which went out today reads as follows:

We are aware of the video made of an incident which occurred on campus yesterday afternoon. University police were called to the scene of the incident when it occurred. The two individuals involved in the incident are not San Francisco State University employees. Further, no criminal charges have been pressed at this time to the University’s knowledge.

San Francisco State University promotes the rights of the campus community to engage in free speech, but does not condone behavior that impedes the safety or well-being of others. We are taking the matter seriously and will promptly and thoroughly investigate this incident through applicable University channels, including our campus student conduct procedures.

While we likely won't know exactly what went down until the investigation is complete, one thing is for sure: At 19, everyone is an idiot.
