Warning: when visiting the ice rink at the Embarcadero, please be careful. You could fall face-first on the ice, cut open your knee, swallow a couple of itchy Vicodins to abate building pain, and then send out several emails that you won't remember writing the following morning. Or so we hear. -- The Last Detail (1973): Jack Nicholson takes Randy Quaid out for a last bit of debauchery before young Quaid is sent of......

It seems that NBC 11 caught Bill O'Reilley's film crew taking in the (non)X-rated partying that went on at last Saturday's Erotic Exotic Ball. This week he'll devoted an entire segment to the annual "sexy" Halloween fete, and even have the ball’s founder, Perry Mann, on as a guest. ...

Un-American group the Catholic League, the nation's largest Catholic civil rights sect, has called for a boycott of Miller Beer ever since The Last Supper got the parody treatment from the Folsom Street Fair folks. Two great comments on our original post that can sum it all up, more or less: guest, "This isn't about christians, gays, or fisting; it's about ignorant American philistines too dull to understand that homages to The Last Supper......

Closeted homosexual Journalist Randy Hall of Cybercast News Service got his feathers all ruffled over this not-so-clever Folsom Street Fair (which he describes as a "multi-city block party for homosexuals") ad, which tamely parodies Leonardo da Vinci's The Last Supper. Confusing the work of art painted by a probable homosexual over one's fantastic belief in Christ, the ad is decried as anti-Christian. Which? Well, all dildos point to yes. Feeling the pressure from wife-beating/molesting......

It was a deadly weekend to be famous, that’s for sure. As one commenter already pointed out today, famous people tend to die in threes: Bill Walsh, Tom Snyder, and of course, ABC 13’s Marvin Zindler from Houston, who -- while still tied-up with breathing tubes, in his hospital bed, and very pissed off at 24-Hour Fitness -- gave and gave until the very end. But another one squeaked in there among those three: Ingmar......

Geek out! At Ask a Scientist SF, a monthly lecture slash happy hour with a guest speaker on some sciencey topic. This month's meet-up touches on everything you ever wanted to know about terra incognita, Antarctica, with Kurt Cuffey, a UC Berkeley professor of geography. Okay, this was a pretty cool event. Peter Morgan, the writer responsible for both Forest Whitaker and Helen Mirren's Oscars this year (for The Last King of Scotland and The Queen) won the film festival's second annual Kanbar Award for excellence in screenplay writing -- so they had him up for an hourlong talk about his distinctive docudrama perspective on contemporary historical events and the flawed personalities behind them, and then they screened The Deal,......

If last week was a downer in terms of new movies, this weekend is definitely not. Basically, this is start of the big run of movies for Christmas/Oscar season so we'll start seeing the big, serious movies. Good thing it's going to rain. ...

Only one more day until... the District 6 election! (And thank God for that.) This week's episode: Everybody Hates The Last Day! Daly supporter and video savant DiggaSlidwell forwards along his latest magnum opus, a comparison between the Daly HQ and the Black HQ last night. This is in response to Pat Murphy's Sentinel story that Gavin Newsom said the Black campaign was the most exciting he'd seen. One might argue in response it's not......

We were wondering why it was so easy to get a parking place in the Mission last night when we remembered that all the cool people are at SXSW. Cool people like SFist Krissy, who enjoyed the calm before the SXSW Music storm with a beer in a near-empty club, and SFist Jackson, who reveled in the fact that, apparently, all bars in Austin have free WiFi. As for us, we'll just bask in the......

Our pals at Austinist have been busy with all sorts of fun at this year's South by Southwest conferences and festivals. Let's see what they'be been up to: In film, Austinist Bre went to see The Last Romantic, which she concludes is "Definitely recommended." In Interactive, Austinist Justin points out to us that someone's Filckrcasting the Kottke/Armstrong keynote, but Austinist Allen lets us know that that's not the only way you can keep abreast......

We've already broken our New Year's resolution to not be late anymore, but we can still rally to see more live music in '05. Things remain a bit askew during this first week of January (holiday parties are still happening?) but there are many musical options if you need to get out and about. Or as those kooky Canadians like to say, oot and aboot. Groove is in the heart tonight down at the 111......
