More than 100 pot plants were found yesterday afternoon, near St. Ignatius College Preparatory School. This is part of the city's "dismantling of a large-scale pot-growing operation in the city," according to reports.

Once again, a home in the city's Sunset district was busted for marijuana cultivation, KRON4 reports. Five people at a home on 40th Avenue, it seems, were arrested this morning after neighbors complained about the "skunk smell" emanating from the house. In addition to finding several pot plants, authorities also uncovered growing equipment, a semi automatic gun, meth, and cocaine. Today's bust comes on the heels of last week's pot bust on the 400 block of 17th Avenue,
On Wednesday afternoon, San Francisco police identified the body of a woman found inside a vehicle at Ocean Beach as Mauvreen Zalaya, 38, of San Francisco. According to reports, "Police are calling Zalaya's death suspicious, but are waiting for the results of a medical examiner's report. Her body was found around 5:30 a.m. near Balboa Street." No signs of trauma or any weapons, according to police, were found inside the car.
After last week's sentencing was postponed due to an ill judge, disgraced former SF Supervisor Ed Jew was sentenced in state court today to an additional year in the pookey "for lying on election documents about residing in San Francisco." Representing the Sunset District in 2006, Jew claimed to live in San Francisco, but later admitted to living in Burlingame (since 1997!) at the time of his tenure on the Board of Supervisors. "I deeply regret the decision I made," Jew told San Francisco Superior Court Judge Kay Tsenin today. "I never should have made that declaration." Jew is scheduled to start his sentence, which includes five-plus additional years after a federal ruling, on July 1. According to reports, "[W]ith credit for good behavior, Jew will serve about 85 percent of the federal prison time, and will likely then be assigned to a community service program and would only have to serve three to four months of the county jail sentence."
Trouble has popped up in the Sunset district, with sexy results. It seems the Vicente Fitness and Health Care Center, at 1202 Vicente, which is a half a block from Dianne Feinstein Elementary School, is once again being investigated as a house of ill repute. According to reports, parents are freaking out because the spa/gym isn't what it claims to be. "I personally went in and tried to join but they said there is no fitness center there," said school parent Matt Mitguard, who did a little research of his own. Sunset resident Wei Liu also went the center and asked if the fitness center had a gym for jazzercize classes, or whatever. "The woman who worked there didn't understand what gym was," said Liu. ABC 7 has an entire rundown of the downlow whore house. While SFPD conducts an investigation, the Vicente Fitness and Health Care Center remains open, and we do mean open, for business.
Making her move at juuust the right time, Jackie Speier is a shoo-in to fill Tom Lantos' seat by April 8 if she gathers a majority of votes in a special, pre-primary election. But first, according to the Merc:
What's that we hear? Another SF shooting? You don't say.
Five people were sent to the hospital today after two cars crashed into each other at 19th Avenue and Sloat, shutting down the Sunset District intersection.
Today's Examiner somewhat sensationally announces that "Sunset District neighbors say they are paying the price for out-of-control weekend bonfires at Ocean Beach, complaining that the rowdy parties have spilled out onto local streets and caused dozens of car break-ins and numerous acts of vandalism." Blame for this issue has been placed on the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, the branch of the National Park Service responsible for Ocean Beach.
