Arguments between passengers on two different Muni buses in San Francisco Friday resulted in the stabbings of two people who were taken to the hospital.

The first incident occurred around 1:30 pm Friday near 13th and Mission streets in San Francisco, according to the San Francisco Police Department.

The Chronicle reports that two passengers were arguing on the 49 Muni bus when a woman was stabbed. She was taken to a nearby hospital, and the extent of her injuries was not reported. SFMTA said they weren’t believed to be life-threatening.

According to KPIX, police said a man was stabbed in a second incident on a Muni bus at around 8:30 pm Friday near 6th and Mission streets. He was arguing with another male passenger who stabbed him and then fled the scene.

His injuries were reportedly not life-threatening, and it’s not known whether the incidents were related.

No arrests have been made, and no information was provided on the suspects as of Friday.

The investigations are ongoing, and SFMTA is reportedly working with the police department.

Chinatown residents are unnerved by a seemingly random attack in which a man waiting to cross the street was randomly and violently stabbed in the back by another man who said nothing and proceeded on his way.

From the looks of the March 5 attack, which was caught on surveillance video that was quickly shared with the media, the suspect appeared to specifically target the victim, approaching on the sidewalk from behind, aggressively thrusting a weapon into his back, and then strolling on across the street with a plastic shopping back in his hand.

The attack happened at the intersection of Stockton and Sacramento streets.

A witness has since come forward saying that the suspect, 37-year-old Jian Feng Huang, had just been eating in a restaurant down the street before walking, perhaps with leftovers in that plastic bag, down the sidewalk and stabbing the victim.

The victim could be seen in the video — it's here on YouTube and not embeddable because it is age-restricted — grabbing his back and then falling to his knees and collapsing on the ground.

As ABC 7 reports via court documents, the knife only narrowly missed the victim's aorta, and he was put into a medically induced coma.

Prosecutors now say that Huang "acted without mercy and with the specific intent to kill the victim," though investigators have said that the suspect and victim did not appear to know one another.  As prosecutors said in court documents, the act occurred with "no words spoken, no threat posed."

Huang was apprehended shortly after the stabbing about five blocks away, on the 600 block of Powell Street, on Nob Hill.

ABC 7 spoke to people in Chinatown who said they knew Huang's father.

Huang has a previous conviction for arson in 2020, in San Mateo County.

Huang has been charged with attempted murder and several other charges. He pleaded no guilty in court Tuesday.

SFPD confronted a “group of unknown subjects in a physical altercation” at Mission Dolores Park Wednesday afternoon, and more disturbingly, six of the eight suspects arrested were teens.

The Chronicle has the rather upsetting news that two people were stabbed in or around Dolores Park Wednesday afternoon in an incident where police were called to the scene at around 4:50 pm.

According to the Chronicle, police were responding to reports of a “group of unknown subjects in a physical altercation,” and found two people in the park suffering from stab wounds.

Both of the stabbed victims were men, according to Mission Local. One of the stabbing victims has life-threatening injuries, the other is described as having non-life-threatening injuries. Their conditions are unknown as of Thursday morning.

Meanwhile, police arrested a total of eight suspects in the stabbings, six teens and two adults. None of the names of the stabbing victims or the suspects have been released.

It’s unclear whether the stabbings occurred in Mission Dolores Park proper, or outside the immediate vicinity of the park.

The accused stabber in last month’s fatal attack on a UCSF social worker at SF General Hospital finally had a court appearance Tuesday, pleading not guilty, with his attorney saying “he was suffering a mental health crisis that day.”

We’re just now beginning legal proceedings in the case of the UCSF social worker who was stabbed and killed at SF General Hospital at the hospital’s HIV Ward 86 on December 4. That 51-year-old social worker Alberto Rangel died three days later, and the accused stabber, 34-year-old Wilfredo Tortolero-Arriechi, has been charged with murder. The whole tragedy has set off a separate controversy about safety at the hospital, particularly with regards to the suspect Tortolero-Arriechi, who had been seemingly stalking a certain other doctor (not the victim Alberto Rangel) at another medical facility earlier in the day, and who happened to bring a five-inch kitchen knife to the hospital.  

The suspect Tortolero-Arriechi had not yet been arraigned, and oddly, was detained in the very hospital where the alleged crime happened, because SF General Hospital is where the SF County Jail psych ward is. But the arraignment finally did begin Tuesday, and the Chronicle reports that Tortolero-Arriechi pleaded not guilty to murder.

“It’s obviously clear that he was suffering a mental health crisis that day,” Tortolero-Arriechi’s attorney, SF deputy public defender Sylvia Nguyen told Mission Local. “It was almost three weeks before he was even stabilized enough to be able to come to court.”

As previously mentioned, Tortolero-Arriechi had seemed to develop an unusual fixation on another doctor who worked in Ward 86. A December 16 report in the Chronicle detailed how for weeks, Ward 86 staffers had been complaining that an “angry and delusional patient was targeting a doctor on their floor,” that patient being Tortolero-Arriechi. Tortolero-Arriechi had reportedly confronted that doctor at a different clinic, the San Francisco City Clinic, earlier on the day of the stabbing.

According to SFPD and sheriff’s deputies, Tortolero-Arriechi then proceeded to that doctor’s next shift at Ward 86, and was able to enter that premises with a knife. He began shouting for the doctor, Rangel tried to calm him down, and Rangel was then fatally stabbed in the neck and shoulder.

SF General Hospital staffers have brought up concerns about safety on-site, but per Mission Local, they’ve reportedly been told to stop talking to the press.

The social worker who was stabbed by a patient several times in the neck and shoulder at Zuckerberg SF General Hospital Thursday has died from his injuries. The suspect, who reportedly has a history of violent behavior, has since been arrested.

Update: Per Mission Local, the victim has been identified as 51-year-old Alberto Rangel, a social worker with UCSF. The outlet reports that Rangel reported concerns about the suspect three weeks before the attack.

Loved ones of Rangel's are raising funds to be donated to a nonprofit in his honor.

As the Chronicle reports, the San Francisco Department of Public Health announced Saturday that the 31 51-year-old social worker who was brutally attacked by a patient at SF General Hospital died from his injuries. Per Mission Local, the suspect, Wilfredo Tortolero Arriechi, 35, was arrested and booked Thursday on charges of “assault with a deadly weapon, mayhem, and being armed during the commission of a felony,” according to a statement by the San Francisco Police Department.

Per Mission Local, a sheriff’s deputy, who intervened and restrained the suspect, was nearby but not in the immediate vicinity prior to the stabbing. The sheriff’s department said in a statement that the deputy was assigned to shadow a doctor who had been targeted by the suspect earlier in the day. Per the SFPD, the police department has taken over the case from the sheriff’s department.

“He was onsite to ensure the doctor’s safety, remained on the Ward after an initial search for the subject, and when he heard a commotion in the hallway, immediately responded,” the sheriff’s department said in a statement. “Upon witnessing the assault in progress, he intervened without hesitation, detained the subject, and secured the scene. His quick actions allowed medical staff to begin life-saving measures for the victim without delay.”

“This tragic event underscores the urgency of our ongoing efforts to strengthen protections for every member of our workforce,” health department officials said in a statement, per the Chronicle. “We are committed to doing everything necessary to ensure that no one fears for their safety while providing care to the people of San Francisco.”

“He’s one of the kindest, most compassionate people, a luminous man,” a colleague of the victim told the Chronicle. “He loved everyone, it would of course be he who immediately stepped up to try to help the patient” prior to the attack.

Per the Chronicle, multiple employees reported receiving threats by the suspect in the weeks prior to the incident. Additionally, the Chronicle notes that the number of sheriff’s deputies assigned to the hospital have been reduced to 28 from 45 in recent years, resulting in repeated safety concerns.

“We demand that city, county, hospital, and UC leadership finally address the rampant understaffing and unjust hiring practices that put workers in danger and hinder both the city and workers’ efforts to address the mental health crisis on our streets,” said UPTE President Dan Russell, per the Chronicle. “We owe our colleague and friend more than grief. We owe them change.”

Per the Chronicle, the hospital and health department have implemented additional safety measures since the stabbing, including added security, reduced access points, and the expedited installation of weapons detection systems.

The investigation is ongoing.

A 51-year-old UCSF social worker was stabbed in the neck and shoulder by a patient Thursday afternoon, and the suspect was quickly taken into custody, as the hospital had already called authorities on the unruly patient.

At about 1:30 pm Thursday afternoon, hospital workers at the Zuckerberg SF General Hospital made a call for security because a patient was exhibiting threatening behavior toward one of their on-duty doctors. This ended up being a very wise decision.

Not long after SF Sheriff’s deputies arrived on the scene, KPIX reports that the aggressively behaving patient stabbed a UCSF social worker, and that social worker remains in critical condition.

“While providing security for the doctor, our sheriff’s deputy heard a disturbance unfolding in the hallway involving the suspect, who was attacking a social worker,” the SF Sheriff’s Office said in a Thursday night statement. “The deputy intervened immediately, restraining the suspect and securing the scene."

That statement adds that “The victim...  sustained multiple stab wounds, including injuries to the neck and shoulder.”

The attack happened at SF General Hospital’s Ward 86, which is the HIV care clinic. Authorities recovered a five-inch kitchen knife at the scene they believe was the weapon used in the attack. The unnamed suspect is a 34-year-old male who was there for a scheduled appointment, and apparently had a history of making threats to medical staff there.

Though if you’re going to have the terrible fortune of being stabbed, a hospital is sort of a lucky place to have that happen. Medical staff were of course on hand, and immediately performed CPR. The social worker victim was then wheeled straight to the operating room, and again, was listed in critical condition as of Thursday night.

The Sheriff's Office statement added that “Hospital staff and patients in the vicinity were understandably shaken, but there is no ongoing threat to the public.”

Update: The victim has been identified as 51-year-old Alberto Rangel, and Rangel died from his injuries on Saturday.

The suspect has been identified as 34-year-old Wilfredo Jose Tortolero-Arriechi, and he has been charged with murder.

There was a fatal stabbing Tuesday afternoon at a Martinez apartment complex, and police say that a 36-year-old woman stabbed and killed her 19-year-old daughter after “a physical altercation.”

The Martinez Police Department says a mother stabbed and killed her own 19-year-old daughter sometime before 2 pm on Tuesday afternoon, according to a report from KRON4. The 36-year-old mother Brittney Evanna Kazee has been taken into custody, and stands accused of stabbing and killing her teenage daughter, 19-year-old Shaniyah Monae Kazee.

Martinez Police were called to the scene at an apartment complex on Fig Tree Lane at about 1:41 pm Tuesday on reports of “two adult females in a physical altercation.” The department added in statements to KRON4 that “Officers were en route when [911] callers advised that someone was stabbed.”

They arrived at the complex about three minutes later and found the younger Kazee unconscious on the ground of the parking lot with stab wounds. She was transported to John Muir Walnut Creek hospital, though was declared dead later in the afternoon.  

“The suspect is the mother of the victim,” the Martinez Police Department said in their statement to KRON4. Police have not yet mentioned or released a motive in the killing.

A man was stabbed about a month ago at 3 pm on a Wednesday afternoon outside the Daly City BART station, and now BART Police are releasing photos of a woman they say is linked to the incident, as they would like a word with her.

It was a month ago today when a man was stabbed outside the Daly City BART station, just after 3 pm on Wednesday, September 17. The man was taken to the hospital, trains were not stopping at that station for about 30 minutes as BART Police sorted out the situation, and there were no suspects named at the time.

But now BART Police have released, well, some information. NBC Bay Area reports that BART Police have released photos of a woman wanted in connection with that stabbing. Or in BART’s words, “BART PD is looking to identify the person shown in the photos below in relation to a stabbing that occurred at Daly City Station on September 17th, 2025, at approximately 3 PM.”

Interestingly, they’re not calling her a suspect, for whatever reason. Instead BART says "BART PD detectives are actively seeking the identity of the person depicted in these photos, as well as anyone with knowledge of the incident."

In the photos, the black-haired woman is wearing a 49ers ballcap, a red top and blue jeans, and appears to have some sort of backpack.

SF community figures are offering their condolences to the family of 35-year-old Robert Byrd II, who was stabbed and killed last Wednesday afternoon near Commodore Sloat Elementary School after picking up his eight-year-old son from school.

Our thoughts certainly go out to the family of 35-year-old Robert Byrd II, who was stabbed and killed last Wednesday afternoon at Junipero Serra Boulevard and Ocean Avenue, just outside of Commodore Sloat Elementary School. Byrd was reportedly picking up his eight-year-old son from school when the 4:35 pm stabbing happened in the intersection last Wednesday, and you’ve got to feel for that young son who had to witness his father’s killing.

SFPD was able to locate and arrest the suspect, 42-year-old Daniel Patrick Rodriguez, who was found some 170 miles away Friday morning in Tuolumne County.

“A father who was walking across the street with his son was fatally stabbed in the crosswalk after getting into an altercation with the suspect,” interim SFPD Chief Paul Yep said at a Friday news conference after the arrest, according to KRON4. "I know this case has been particularly disturbing to the community, and parents, and students."

The suspect Rodriguez has been in SFPD custody since his arrest Friday, and charges were filed Monday. He has been charged with both murder and child endangerment.

"A number of investigators are wrapping together right now to work with this family, to address their needs going forward," said DA Brooke Jenkins in a Monday statement. "Of course, we are all mourning for this child who was present during this incident and want to make sure that we deliver justice for this family. And quite honestly, for this entire community."

The stabbing apparently followed some sort of yet-unknown altercation between Byrd and the accused stabber.

Now KTVU reports that a GoFundMe to support Byrd’s family has been established, and has now raised more than $61,000 of its $80,000 goal,

“Robert was a devoted father, a loving son, and a joyful presence to everyone who knew him. Family and friends remember him as someone who brought laughter and warmth wherever he went, a person who took life seriously but always found ways to share joy,” that campaign says. “His greatest love was his son, who was holding his hand in the moments before this tragedy occurred.”

The GoFundMe says its proceeds “will go directly to his family to provide financial support as they navigate this excruciating and heartbreaking loss.”
