After Carole Migden won the endorsement of the Harvey Milk Club, things were looking grim for Assemblyman Mark Leno. But today Gavin Newsom shined his megawatt charm over in Leno's direction today, endorsing his bid for a state Senate seat. According to the B.A.R., " Newsom [is] expected to publicly endorse Leno Wednesday night at the Herbst Theatre during a special screening of Pursuit of Equality..." Leno is trying to dethrone state Senator Carole......

The airtight smiles. Awesome. For those of you somehow not tempted into becoming a part of Van Santian art -- or, you know, if you sport a vagina -- might we suggest catching round II of the Leno vs. Migden smackdown? Sponsored by the Harvey Milk Club, this meeting is sure to ruffle a few plumes and have local politicos affectedly scratching their chins for days to come. That's right, kids, it's on. It is......

Ah, the Aliotos -- they run this town! Patriarch Joseph Alioto was the mayor of San Francisco from 1968-1976, in office not only during the building of the Transamerica Pyramid but also through the Zodiac murders -- while daughter Angela Alioto is a former Board of Supervisors president (and chicken-suit renter), while granddaughter Michela Alioto-Pier is a current Board of Supes member (and Hottest Supervisor emerita -- hm, maybe it's time for us to do......

Last Friday, the Examiner got their hands on a bunch of statistics and a calculator and crunched a whole bunch of numbers about crime in the city. Their verdict is that curiously, the number of homicides has gone up but the number of people arrested for said homicides has gone down. It doesn't take a math major to realize that's not very good. ...

Alright, let's go back to the SFPD video story as the big boom was lowered yesterday. Out of the thirty-five officers involved, twenty-eight of them are being disciplined. No word on what disciplined means, although it'll probably be some sort of suspension. As for the remaining seven, including video auteur Andrew Cohen, they will go in front of the San Francisco Police Commission to have them decide their fate....

Today, your San Francisco Board of Supervisors take up legislation both big and small. First up is a possible override of Gavin's veto of the foot patrol legislation. The board needs eight votes to override Mayor McDreamy's veto, one short of the seven they got when they passed the bill. Right now, it's not looking like it'll happen. Luke Thomas reports in Fog City that two of the seven have been flipped. The two who......

There's another district where a winning candidate has yet to be named and that's District 4. This race has been a little under the radar as it hasn't involved candidate's wives telling lobbying groups what they could do with themselves or sock puppets. Nevertheless, it's quite a humdinger as there are three candidates who are neck and neck and neck-- Ron Dudum, Ed Jew, and Jaynry Mak are within just a few percentage points of each other (Dudum has 27 percent, Jew has 25 percent, and Mak has 22 percent). Doug Chan, Gavin's guy, has only 16 points so unless he gets a lot of #2 picks, he's probably out of it and will get eliminated as they move more into the ranked choice tallies. Hey, this whole thing is kind of like in English Premiere League soccer where the losing candidates get relegated. ...

So Mayor Gavin Newsom can't be bothered to show up for a police commissioner meeting or deal with MUNI, the taxicab commission, or the Dept. of Building Inspection -- but he's so there for the SF Symphony Opening Gala! We all know Gavin loves the Stravinsky violin concerto. And who's Gavin's latest squeeze? The intriguingly-spelled Brittanie Mountz, who played women's lacrosse for Sonoma State. She discussed the importance of civic participation in the arts as......
