We don't usually read the Op Ed pages of the Chronicle, because it's always either rehashed columnists from other papers or something like "give birth control pills to deer in Point Reyes" -- but can you believe it? The Chron actually got someone local to write about a local issue today -- if we're going to build out the MUNI underground, why not actually build it out and have a subway that runs to Fisherman's......

-- You break it, you bought it. [N-Judah Chronicles] -- Bang, bang: "Shot Spotters!" [The Snitch] -- Psst. "Stifle yourself" is the new "STFU." Pass it on. [Chron Blog] -- No fair! We wanna go to Point Reyes! [WhatImSeeing] -- Is Yoshi's SF opening really going to help the Fillmore? Hint: no. (Also, how can a dead form of music revitalize a community?) [BeyindChron] -- Ken, you are the father! [SFBG] -- Late night......

We haven't done one of these columns in awhile! --Killer squirrels on the attack! A menacing critter stomped into an open classroom in a South San Jose school and bit a first-grader on the finger and two adults in the classroom. They called 911, but when animal control arrived, the squirrel had fled -- or in their words, "He high-tailed it outta there." Har! The school took pains to say that they don't usually have......

Pot growing in the wild! Marin County has vowed to crack down on marijuana growers who have been sneaking onto state and federal public property to plant over $100 million worth of weed. The pot is located on both sides of Bolinas Ridge, and Point Reyes National Seashore says they spent over $10,000 to clean it all up. Authorities report seeing one plant that was 10 feet tall and covered with so many buds the......

SFist Jon's away this week, so you're stuck with the former editor on your Day Around The Bay. --Robert Haaland comes clean about his vacation during the District 6 race. --Critical Mass in Walnut Creek last Friday didn't go so well. --In some kind of strange shout-out to the golden spike that connected the transcontinental railroad, a bunch of people in Palo Alto signed a wireless Internet transmitter that had been painted gold. Huh.......

Less than an hour north of the City, a lonely wedge of land juts out into the teeth of the Pacific swell. Almost completely separated from the Marin mainland by the grinding force of the San Andreas Fault (SAF), the Point Reyes Peninsula is a focal point for all kinds of natural forces.

What an ambient summer week it's been and it's very likely to continue through the weekend. In fact, turkey wings crossed it will extend clear through the Thanksgiving weekend food coma. What do we owe this warm air, absence of damp Pacific winds and non-chilly evenings to? A giant high (pressure that is) holding court over the massive expanse of the Great Basin Desert (aka Nevada) which is pushing warm inland air over the western......

...because we like big butts and we cannot lie. Looking at the Weeklies splayed out on our desk, it's an endless promise of fun. Let's ruin the illusion and dive right in. Last week's winner, the SF Weekly, sports Harmon Leon's absolutely f**king genius Infiltration of a Promise Keepers meeting. (Did you know that the busiest weekend for strip clubs in Indianapolis isn't during the 500, it's during the PK convention?) This week, no......

Holy Toledo. Bay Area sports lost an institution on Tuesday morning, when A's broadcaster Bill King passed away after complications to hip surgery. He was, the Chronicle says, "believed to be around 80." King came to the Bay Area in 1958 when the Giants did, and worked games with Lon Simmons and Russ Hodges. He called Warriors games from 1962, when they moved to San Francisco, until 1983 (including their 1975 championship season), and......

Not everyone at SFist had Columbus Day off, but that did not stop us from taking advantage of a beautiful, cloud free Saturday to head up to Point Reyes National Seashore. Point Reyes is only an hour away, but plan on spending at least one full day - there is a lot of driving to do in the park if you want to see the spectacular views from the lighthouse and still get some......
