The shooting that claimed the lives of two men on Saturday--Daly City resident Jason de la Cruz, 31, and San Francisco resident Derek Butch, 23--was all due to a squabble over free food at Irving Pizza, it seems. Del la Cruz, at right, father of three and a successful Verizon Wireless store manger, was taking his employees out to show "his appreciation for a successful sales month." Jason offered up free pizza to his sales......

And speaking of problems with pizza, Marisa Lagoshas wrote a handy-dandy little post with info on two separate funds set up for Thanh Thach's family, Check it: Two funds have been set up for the family of Thanh Thach, who was shot to death Monday night as he attempted to deliver a pizza in Richmond. Pizza Hut set up a fund for donations at Bank of America. Contributions can be made to the Thanh......

In North Beach fights breakout and mild vandalism occurs after bars close at 2 a.m. This chaos, typical for any city, makes some of our sensitive city dwellers cranky before bedtime. Or whatever. So, the City Planning Commissioners somehow got it into their heads that closing pizza parlors on the the Broadway strip, pizzerias that normally stay open until 3 a.m. or 4 a.m., before 2 a.m. will solve a slew of problems. According to the Examiner:...

There's been so many murders lately that it's hard to find a new twist on the stories, so here's one: a Pizza Hut pizza delivery man was shot and killed in the Richmond last night as he was trying to deliver a pizza. Apparently, he got lost and was wandering around trying to find the house he was supposed to deliver the pizza too and when he was stopped by several men trying to rob him. When he tried to run away, he was shot in the back, something that anyone who has ever seen a Western knows is the coward's way. ...

Granted that most you fresh food philosophers won't even know what we're talking about right now; you can thank your delicate palates and/or lactose intolerance for that. Feel free to tune into Check, Please! Bay Area while we warn the rest of the others about the following fast-food danger. General Mills has recalled five million frozen pizzas under the Totino’s Pizza and Jeno’s Pizza brands this morning. It appears that the Totino's recall is......

Last week's winner, the San Jose Metro. Alas! They haven't updated their site for this week yet, and we didn't manage to snag a hard copy of the paper, so they'll have to forfeit in the Weekly of the Week contest for the week. Next up, let's call it for the SF Weekly. Ephraim the Track Bike is back! And he mentions us! We love you, Ephraim the Track Bike! Did Ed Jew's people spearhead......

Seattlest watches as a S.L.U.T. is born and Seattle Flickr users go nuts over a local art installation. A restaurant critic demands a Diner's Bill of Rights over a gnat next to her drink, and, in lieu of a Portlandist, Seattlest debates with itself over the identity of the Northwest's crown jewel. Seattlest also joins the guys from Fantagraphics for an ill-fated gun party in the woods. LAist saw national headlines soar this week with......

Andrea and her pal hit the park. Photo courtesy Andrea. Our recent "3 Questions" subjects have included Megan Marrone, Kevin Rose, Phil Bronstein, and the founders of Yelp -- all pretty darned high-profile people. However, as compelling as we find those folks, our goal with the short-form interview was always to intersperse folks on the street; the folks you meet in your real life, who really are as interesting as, well, anybody. A couple blocks south of where Lower Mervyns Heights butts heads with Upper Chopper City, Divisadero’s business-dominated stretch begins to take shape. There’s a little of everything on this block between McAllister and Fulton, from the throwback corner diner, to the auto body shop, to the bar whose front window announces a list of “rules” to be obeyed. There’s also the Muslim center and the tattoo parlor. Even the pair of pizza places on the east side of the street take divergent approaches. The block’s eclecticism doesn’t seem to bother anyone early on this Sunday evening. The pies at sit-down place Little Star Pizza (deep dish or thin crust – you choose) look to be as popular as any in town tonight, while down the sidewalk at quick-service Stelladoro, police officers and less-armed customers quickly nip in and out for cut-rate slices. A door or two away, at the corner of Divisadero and Fulton, the sticker-strewn counter at Eddie’s Café appears as if it’s been helping mitigate hangovers with omelets, bacon cheeseburgers, greens, and grits for decades....

Everyone knows the Saturday of Pride Weekend is the Dyke March! Put on your motorcycle helmet and take off your top. The theme this year (for the 15th anniversary) is "Healthcare for All," so there's going to be a mammogram truck on site, as well as the usual diverse array of religions, performers, and peoples. The rally and stage show starts at 3 at Dolores Park; the women go marching at 7. Other events:......

A truck filled with 60 cows tipped over in Contra Costa County yesterday. Ha! Despite our most diligent efforts, we are unable to find any pictures from the scene, so we're going with the "Cow Crossing" sign you see to your left. It's not an exaggeration to say that some families are held together by dough. Our grandmother for instance, used to bake scrumptious apple tarts to lure her philandering husband back home. It seems however, that the dough-kneading gene did not make it to our batch of DNA. So we 're always on the lookout for some good ready-made. Despite its strong following, we felt completely let down by Trader Joe's 99-cent whole-wheat dough: once rolled, we could not get it to remain stretched. In fact, its ability to retract to the touch reminded us of garden snails when you poke their soft parts. Fortunately there is the onomatopoeic Patxi's Chicago Pizza. ...

With all that went down this week, we thought we thought we'd cheer everyone up by giving everyone a double dose of dogs. It was a rollercoaster ride of emotions this week at DCist. We think a lot about pizza here at SFist, maybe a little too much. And since San Francisco has some pretty good pizza, we were a little nervous to move out to the East Bay. (Golden Boy, we don’t mind that you’re in North Beach, you can do no wrong with your clam pizza.) But as we continue to search for the perfect pizza true to our east coast roots (our hearts belong to New......

The -ists this week had politics on the brain. And what goes better with politics? Partying-- that's two great tastes in one. Oh, and Kevin Federline...can't forget about Kevin Federline. And the politically minded Curt Schilling went on "Jeopardy!". ...

Whatever you do, don't go see Pizza The Movie hungry. Boy were we glad we'd had that burrito (but we must admit, that didn't prevent us from stopping off for a slice after the film). We remembered reading this Chicagoist piece a while ago and being envious of their access to GrubHub, a service that'll give you restaurant delivery information related to any Chicago-area address you enter. Being reclusive types ourselves, we prefer to receive as many meals as possible without leaving the comfort of our apartment. Until recently, however, we have been forced to make our delivery determinations based on what restaurants slide menus under our door (confidential......
