Much to our surprise, the motion that almost allowed our fair Mayor Gavin Newsom to eschew his monthly cameos Board of Supervisor meeting was tabled. That is to say, it was killed. Dead. According to Sweet Melissa recounts today's nail-biting Board of Supes meeting thusly: Supervisor Daly spoke twice against the motion, at one point reading off a list of donors to the Let's Really Work Together coalition which opposed Prop E. Supervisor Mirkarimi......

Aaron, what's going on? Things okay at home? You can tell us, man. Because: San Francisco Board of Supervisors President Aaron Peskin has been on a bit of a roll lately. In addition to threatening to have Newsom's director of climate protection initiatives, Wade Crowfoot, canned out of mere spite, Peskin has also reportedly bullied Port of San Francisco employees for disagreeing "with him over building-height limits on the city's waterfront." Last August, the......

We thought that this issue was neatly swept under the rug. What gives? Is the neighborhood patrol still kicking it in the Western Addition? Well, time to come home, fuzz. It looks like someone in the Marina/Cow Hollow vicinity was recently attacked, and SFist won't rest until San Francisco is a solid police state. According to Marcia Gagliardi over at the esteemed food site Tablehopper: I don't have many details about this, but I......

In a Spearsian like maneuver, looking to trump both the recent storm and the Dhaliwal brothers, oil spill made a comeback this morning. It seems that a crane fell off of a san Francisco pier a little before 10 a.m. this morning, spilling "an unknown amount" of oil into the Bay. According to the Gate, "[t]he crane was on a sliding rail system at a dry dock at Pier 70 when it suddenly tilted......

Chucky appears to be back on the homeless beat this week with two stories about it. One is something that might piss people off, the other something that might not piss people off. We'll start with the one that might piss people off one first so we can cheer everyone up at the end with the one that won’t piss people off and make the post heart-warming, just in time for the holidays. ...

Starting out this week, Peck the Town Crier is celebrating his sophomore CD, Groundhog's Day by performing at Pier 23. You can hang out with this San Franciscan native from 7:30-10:30 for absolutely nothing - it's free. "Recorded at the famed Hyde St Studios in San Francisco, Groundhog’s Day blends Peck’s unique story-raps and verbiage with hand played instrumental arrangements that pull from the gambit of [great] American music..." It's a bit weird, a bit......

Update: Gale Force winds and a small craft advisory will keep crabbers fisher(people?) off of the Bay. Clearly, God hates us. Bastard. After the Cosco Busan fuel spill brouhaha, tasty crabmeat and fish pulled from the Bay have now been deemed safe to eat, effectively lifting Schwarzenegger's fishing ban. Although waters just outside the Bay were considered fish-able, "local crabbers chose not to fish until the crabs were ruled safe, even though the crabbing......

How the church appeared on November 13. This Friday -- Black Friday -- Michaela Alioto-Pier's little neighborhood that thrives on ridicule will become a little more ridicule-less. At 9 a.m., Pacific Standard Time, on the day of November twenty-third, two thousand and seven, the store at 2125 Chestnut will open its doors. And at that moment? Apple will welcome in its third San Francisco store, completing the trilogy started by its flagship location on......

With Chris Daly focusing on the birth of his second child (congrats, Chris and Sarah!), SF Board of Supes prez Aaron Peskin has manfully taken over the essential city function of provoking District 2's Michela Alioto-Pier: today's Matier and Ross column has MAP running crying to City Attorney Dennis Herrera and DA Kamala Harris about Aaron Peskin telling her "payback's a bitch" when she asked why he'd changed his vote on her proposed charter......

But, and we hate to admit it, they sure do look pretty together. (The image above has been set as our desktop background!) But as attractive as oil and water looks on rain-soaked driveways and in Carmel-y art pieces, it's not worth it when it's in our Bay. It tends to cause inexcusable damage. (Where, like, fish and mermaids and stuff totally die, you know.) Take, for example, this morning's container ship that rammed......

It's on! Gavin Newsom's finally pulled the trigger (.pdf), and Ed Jew is out (at least for now). What odds do you have on poor beleagued Ed Jew lawyer Steven Gruel filing a request for reinstatement with the federal court later today? Being Ed Jew's lawyer has to be the worst job ever, except possibly being a nanny for Britney Spears. Here's the tidbits we have from today's news coverage: --Even Ed Jew's process server......

It's the latest in the Tsk Tsk Supervisorial codes of conduct battle front! You've got sex, you've got drugs, all you need now is some rock and roll: Supervisor Chris Daly went and introduced the code of conduct regulations he's been waving around ever since his fellow supervisor Michela Alioto-Pier said she was going to put in some rules about (his) offensive language. Daly's code would prohibit sexual relationships between managers and subordinates at City......

The Blue Angels get to stay. Vroom. Woosh. Board of Supervisors voted down Chris Daly's measure that would've grounded the Blue Angels from zooming overheard in their annual freedom-ain't-free air extravaganza. Michela Alioto-Pier was one of the strongest haters on Daly's measure, claiming that it was "a little fly-by-night, 'let's do this because we think it might not be safe,'" Hmm. Anyway, read more about it here or here.......

As promised, non-mayoral candidate Chris Daly's proposing his nonbinding resolution to ban the Blue Angels from flying over San Francisco at the Governmental Audit and Oversight Committee meeting today. Daly, who's been working with Code Pink, Global Exchange, and Veterans for Peace on the resolution, is asking that San Francisco elected officials work to reduce unnecessary military flyovers in the area, saying that the loud jets are a threat to publich safety; upset pets,......

Well, at least he lives in the Richmond, right? (Some) affordable housing advocates and ethicists are shaking their heads over District 1 Supervisor Jake McGoldrick's poor party timing this week. Remember that lot on Cesar Chavez and Mission that everyone's fighting about condoizing? Well, the Board of Supes had a contentious debate about it on Tuesday, and narrowly voted for development on a 6-5 vote. (hey, Michela Alioto-Pier must've shown up that day!) The swing......

While we've been digesting the dueling banjos style competition for a Board of Supes Code of Conduct, we were left pickin' our skulls as to why the Supes don't already have a code of conduct? Seriously, right? The progressive bubble of San Francisco doesn't have a code of conduct for its Board of Supervisors, while such luminary cities as Simi Valley, Pismo Beach, Goleta and Fresno do? Sounds Crazy, right? Well, not so much.......

Oh, Michela Alioto-Pier! Our favorite absentee supervisor finally straggled on in to an actual committee meeting, only to find out that the code of conduct she's proposing for the supervisors has loopholes big enough for a Mack truck to drive though. As you may remember, Alioto-Pier (or MAP, as we like to call her) is spearheading the push to institute a code of conduct for supervisors, after the flap about Chris Daly saying that there......

Happening "primarily on Chestnut Street [with a some attacks happening] near Fillmore and Greenwich, two to three [persons] dressed in all black wearing Halloween skeleton masks" and brandishing guns, it seems, committed at least 11 attacks on men and women over the past three weeks. Grabbed while walking on the sidewalk -- including one woman who was reportedly forced into her apartment -- the victims were all robbed of their personal belongings (i.e., backpacks, purses,......

Chris Daly was finally reassigned to a new committee today, in a total step down. After getting removed from the "powerful" budget committee chairmanship Chris was totally lonesome, floating in a committeeless void. But yesterday that changed as he was introduced as a member of the Government Audit and Oversight Committee. Note that Daly is not mentioned on the agenda of the meeting, but if you go to sfgtv and watch Monday's session you......

Confirming what we heard yesterday, quote-unquote "District 4" Supervisor Ed Jew, along with Michela Alioto-Pier and Jake McGoldrick, showed up for yesterday's committee hearing to find out who exactly took those 300 trash cans off the streets of San Francisco. (Turns out it was DPW, who just went ahead and did it without telling anyone first.) So it turns out part of the reason why they took those 300 trash cans off the street was......

Thanks to Sweet Melissa, watching the Board of Supes meeting today so we didn't have to (hey, did Michela Alioto-Pier clear her schedule out and make it in?), who reports the following from the public comment session: At about 51:30, someone gets up and starts singing the Madonna song "Borderline" only with changed pro-Ed Jew lyrics to say "You just keep pushing Ed Jew's service over the borderline" - I s*** you not. Bueller? Bueller? Bueller? That's right, everyone's favorite supervisorial class-cutter, District 2's Michela Alioto-Pier, missed yet another committee meeting on Monday. That's not really newsworthy in and of itself -- but what is newsworthy is that the committee meeting she missed was the one she had to be at in order to stop this water rate hike that she (and Ed Jew, who knows about water rate hikes) told everyone she was crusading against. Oops! So......

Today and tomorrow only, Aquarium of the Bay at Pier 39 is playing host to a 25-foot-long, two-ton salmon called "Fin." It's the Fourth of July! Streamers! Bunting! Brass bands! And in San Francisco.... the opening of the hotly-anticipated SF Mime Troupe production in Dolores Park! We're hearing word about today's Board of Supes meeting! So apparently Michela Alioto-Pier, without naming Chris Daly specifically, was going on and on about the need for civility at the Board of Supes, and introduced her code of conduct for members, like she's been saying she would. Then Chris Daly gets up, and proposes his own code of conduct -- namely, one that 1) prevents fraternization between any city official and a person directly under......
