Ugh, going back to work after a three-day weekend is somehow worse than going back after a normal one, am I right? And between people on Facebook/Twitter all "summer is over" and the many pieces of sad, irritating, or frustrating news we'll be bringing you today (trust me, there's plenty) I am having a hard time not feeling a bit deflated.

But now here's International Space Station operations branch chief Scott Kelly (look at his bio, it's mind-blowing) putting things in perspective, as he tweeted this lovely picture of San Francisco from space this weekend.

Look, there's both the bridges! And your house, and my house! Techies and luddites, homeless and be-mansioned, commenters and other commenters (you know who you are): we're all on this rock together, people. Remember that.

The formidable Bhautik Joshi snapped these shots of Sunday's annular "ring of fire" solar eclipse. "I ended up using a pair of solar shades glasses over the end of my 70-300mm and it was still possible to get some pretty decent shots of the eclipse," he notes.

Also, care of LAist, check out this astounding time-lapse footage of yesterday's eclipse shot by Cory Poole. Shot in Redding, California the film is made of "700 individual frames through a Coronado Solar Max 60 Double Stacked Hydrogen Alpha Solar Telescope." Behold:

Love it or hate it — pst, we love it — the new playground in Dolores Park got a wee bit of a makeover with some fun street art. Jeremy Novy painted some of his famous koi on the rubber matting. You like? He also drew some clouds and a line of ants, both of which are sure to delight the thong of kids playing in the park again. Mission Mission has more images for your enjoyment or disapproval, depending on which side of the street-art fence you sit.

David Jones snapped the first incredible photo here that shows lightning striking the city during tonight's tumultuous storm. (Did your building shake as well? Ours sure did.) He snapped the pic from his residence at The Paramount in downtown San Francisco. Amazing.

Friend of SFist Daniel Phifer captured this stunning pic of a dumpster fire that was going down last night in the Potrero Center garage in the Mission, right near 24 Hour Fitness. Here's what Daniel had to say:

We were driving along Bryant, and all of a sudden I saw this huge fire coming out of the dumpster. My friend pulled right up. I started snapping pictures, and he was filming video. We heard the fire trucks coming, and I was afraid someone would think we started the fire, so we got out of there.

It was weird to see all the people in 24 Hour Fitness still working out, oblivious to the big fire going on next door.

Side note: According to Urban Dictionary, the term dumpster fire is slang for "a complete disaster" or "slightly better than a train wreck."

There are countless stories to tell in San Francisco, but sometimes a picture says so much more that mere words. Each Tuesday, we present to you 7 Reasons. (Our sister site LAist does the same thing, which we found too inspiring to resist.) Much like Photo du Jour highlighting a nifty image shot by our readers, 7 Reasons features recent photos from the SFist pool on Flickr showcasing the uniqueness of San Francisco. And with that, here are 7 reason why S.F. is, for lack of a better word, rad.

And so we begin yet another fun series, which may or may not stick, wherein we'll make note of eye-grabbing window displays, for better or worse.

One of the many smoke shops along Polk Street is making an effort to stand out from the rest by showing potential customers the wide range of products they carry in addition to the typical head shop paraphernalia. Sleek, metallic calculator? Check. Dice by the dozen? You betcha. A pornographic mug? Of course. Camels at 75¢ off? Natch.

Tampax and Trojans? Bingo! It's a winning combination.

We always assumed self-consciousness, not price, kept people from marking their bodies with tattoos. But here we see a gaggle of ink fans queued outside Let It Bleed tattoo parlor on Polk Street, waiting to take advantage of a Valentine's Day special. SFist contacted Let It Bleed for more details. They explained: "We had a sheet of Valentine themed tattoos for just $25."

Shot at Ardenwood Farms in Fremont, Flickr user sunmallia captured this group of monarch butterflies. "It took me a long while to really see them as they look like a clump of dead leaves but when I did see them it was amazing," sunmallia said, adding, "they mostly stayed in clumps and every now and then the clumps would flutter. Am amazing site to see for sure."

Indeed.

Although this SFist contributor couldn't make it to the little bluegrass concert in the park last weekend, we kept hearing mention of lots of hippies saturating the event. To echo that sentiment, friend of SFist and Outer Sunset resident Kevin McCracken snapped the above photo of a brilliant sign that was on the door over the weekend of local poster printing business, Moon Editions, which is located at Irving and 41st Avenue.

The sign reads, "NO HIPPIES," and then in small print, "No seriously -- piss off."

We sympathize with those who live and work near the park during these epic weekend events. It must certainly be a love/hate relationship.

When SFist caught a glimpse of this sign in front of Luscious Wear on Polk yesterday, we first noticed no connection to Burning Man the event but were instead forced to imagine burning man loins, something we'd rather not imagine on Polk Street.

Once we realized the dual meaning, we were left wondering whether it was intentionally clever or brilliantly ignorant. (We're also not sure it matters.)

Also, we hope you already have tickets to your Burning Man.
