The music season on Wednesday night, with a sparkling opening night gala. The evening started with complimentary champagne in the hallways of Davies Symphony Hall, because nothing lubricates appreciation for music better than bubbly. Still, two women left the hall after the national anthem, because there is only so much orchestral music than one can put up with, even inebriated. The bemused look on Michael Tilsson Thomas' face as they left was priceless.

                             

The opening night gala is more a fashion show than a musical performance, and was at Davies Symphony Hall on Wednesday night to compliment each other on their expensive outfits. Here you can learn who is wearing an Alexander McQueen dress with her Jimmy Choos, which you are totally dying to know.

We volunteered to meet and greet sell Noise Pop merchandise to festival attendees who often ended up spending all their money on band merch (as if) and/or beer (or more specifically in Cafe Du Nord's case -- Fernet Branca and Poppy Jaspers). It was quite a fun experience though, and we highly recommend it. Contact them about volunteering at next year's event!

Before hitting the sundry of top-notch hilarity littering San Francisco during the 7th Annual SF Sketchfest - i.e., the sad clowns making funny - be sure to stop by tonight's opening party. No really, it's well worth the price of admission. And then some. They have Aimee Mann, Kristen Schaal (aka the girl from Flight of the Conchords), Paul F. Tompkins, Todd Barry, Rhys Darby, and DJs Skip & Shindog on-hand to perform. Plus, you'll have the chance to get wasted near other comedic types. And as we all know, alcoholism runs wild within the bloodstreams of stand-up comedians. Amateur night for substance abusers and comics this is not.

Look! Just like we promised -- to celebrate the Frameline GLBT film fest, we're giving away free passes throughout the festival (running June 14-24).

Yesterday was the opening night party of the Women’s Film Festival ! The night kicked off with LGBTQ films and included acoustic band Trusting Lucy performing before the show, trailers for movies on everything from Gwen Araujo to trannie-bike-messenger-speed-addicts, shorts by writer/ director/ actress and general lesbian-icon Guinevere Turner, and then a Q&A with Ms. Turner herself (yes we have a new crush).

Noise Pop announced their full line-up this week and it has us feeling a little dizzy with excitement. The fest's 15th anniversary kicks off on February 27th with a free Opening Night Event (lineup TBA), followed by highlights including Sebadoh performing with their original lineup and Roky Erickson of 13th Floor Elevators' first Bay Area show in 25 years. We are SO all over the upcoming Litquake Opening Night at the Regency Center, Friday, October 6. Written word and music kept us sane in our dork formative years, and continue to sustain us. While we used to hope those dork years were behind us, we have learned to embrace it. We can't think of a better way to celebrate and acknowledge these two cherished forces than Between the Bridges, a homage to literature with a fabbo lineup of Bay Area musicians. It's a known fact that almost all writers listen to music, now it's our turn to find out what writers musicians READ and in some cases, incorporate into their work as inspiration.

That's right, we're heading straight from the final night of Another Hole In The Head to tonight's opening of Frameline 30, the San Francisco International LGBT Film Festival. So many awesome film fests this summer, and we love them all!

We're wishing Noise Pop a happy birthday today, as San Francisco's indie-est music festival kicks off its 14th year. The all-festival badges are sold out, as are tickets to some of the biggest shows, but SFist will bring you our coverage so you can live vicariously. , because it was freakin' COLD. As we stepped out of the Castro Muni Metro stop, clad in coat and gloves and other things we thought we'd left behind in the Midwest, we spied folks in teeny shorts and mini dresses, all gussied up for the San Francisco premiere of the locally produced documentary based on the icon of all things sexy and 70s.
