My fellow Americans on Twitter. It is with great honor that I announce to you today that a cornerstone of 21st Century American democracy, the peaceful transfer of the @POTUS Twitter account, has been achieved.

President Donald Trump, who for years has proven a prolific tweeter on a wide variety of subjects including the goodness of Vladimir Putin, the citizenship of Barack Obama, the badness of Saturday Night Live, and all manner of other pressing issues, has said that he plans to maintain his current Twitter account, the elegant @realDonaldTrump. There, Trump has amassed about 20 million followers, a number that in typical Trumpian hyperbole he has vastly overestimated.

As the new President has stated many positions on many subjects to which he shows no allegiance, we'll have to wait and see what he does with the two accounts. In speaking to the UK's Sunday Times, Trump explained that "the tweeting, I thought I’d do less of it, but I’m covered so dishonestly by the press — so dishonestly — that I can put out Twitter.... I can go bing bing bing . . . and they put it on and as soon as I tweet it out — this morning on television, Fox — ‘Donald Trump, we have breaking news’."

Now Trump can go "bing bing bing" with his little bing bing bingers from whichever account he chooses. It is, however, Twitter's policy to ban accounts used for the same purpose, leaving Trump a tough choice: Which one will he use to tweet about the lying, dishonest cast of the Broadway musical Hamilton?

In related news, a search for the Twitter account of the first lady gave me some initial hope:

But that was quickly dashed. Michelle Obama now has the account @FLOTUS44, and @FLOTUS is held by the unironic anti-cyber bullying advocate Melania Trump, Mr. Trump's third wife and the first immigrant to become First Lady of the United States.

via Twitter

In a similar fashion, Barack Obama, the 44th president of the United States, has a new official Twitter account, in addition to his existing personal account. That's @POTUS44.

via Twitter

One more holdover from the Obama years remains on the new @POTUS account held by Trump, however: As Slate points out, the background picture for the account is from Obama's inauguration. Follow or unfollow accordingly, folks. The good news is you're not automatically enrolled, so to speak:

And feel free to log off. That's even easier.

Thanks, Obama: Among the final acts of a presidency in which conservation was a "cornerstone," the commander-in-chief has designated more than 6,000 acres of coastal areas to join the California Coastal National Monument, the White House announced. The monument, runs along the coast of the Golden State and extends 12 miles out to sea, the LA Times explains

As that newspaper wrote previously, Obama's move on the matter was requested by California politicians like Senator Barbara Boxer, and it wasn't clear how he'd act. But now, as the Chronicle and others observe, Obama has done right by them, and likely by history, having opted in the aggregate to protect more than 550 million acres of public land, twice the acreage protected by Teddy Roosevelt.

The California Coastal National Monument was originally designated by Bill Clinton and first expanded by Obama in 2014, when he added Point-Arena-Stornetta in Mendocino County to the monument. As the Bureau of Land management writes, the new sites include Trinidad Head off the coast of Humboldt County with its historic lighthouse, Waluplh-Lighthouse Ranch, just south of Trinidad Head, the Lost Coast Headlands, Cotoni-Coast Dairies in Santa Cruz County, the largest area designated among the bunch and which includes ancient archaeological sites, meadows, and coast redwoods, and Piedras Blancas in San Luis Obispo County, which has its own historic lighthouse and views of elephant seals among white coastal rocks.

Speaking of those, per the Bureau of Land Management, "While millions of people view the Monument from beaches, bluffs, and watercraft, a closer look reveals activity as it provides untrammeled nesting habitat for an estimated 200,000 breeding seabirds and thousands of loafing and breeding marine mammals, including harbor seals, and California and Steller’s sea lions."

As with much of Obama's legacy on conservation, the president's move relies on the 1906 Antiquities Act, which allows presidents to protect lands for scientific, cultural, or scenic reasons. Republicans such as Utah Representative Rob Bishop have been angered by the president's prolific monument designations, and Bishop has threatened to reverse Obama's decisions. The Antiquities Act doesn't have a provision for reversal and no president has revoked previous monument designations, but Congress does have the power to do so.

Alongside the California Coastal Monument additions, President Obama designated a much larger 42,000 acres —to the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument in Oregon and partially California, a monument also first designated by Bill Clinton. Meanwhile, he named several historical sites to be national monuments: BuzzFeed reports that those include the former headquarters for Martin Luther King Jr.'s civil rights campaign, the AG Gaston Motel in Birmingham, Alabama which becomes The Birmingham Civil Rights National Monument.

In a move that should surprise no one, President Barack Obama has endorsed California Attorney General Kamala Harris in her campaign to become the state's next US senator.

In a statement sent to media Tuesday, Obama said “I am proud to endorse Kamala Harris for United States Senate because I’ve seen her work."

“Kamala is a lifelong courtroom prosecutor with only one client: the people of the State of California. That’s the approach she’ll take to the United States Senate."

Tuesday's words were far more circumspect than those Obama used a few years ago, when he praised her appearance at a Silicon Valley fundraising event.

"She's brilliant and she's dedicated, she's tough... She also happens to be, by far, the best-looking attorney general," Obama said during a Atherton lunch in April, 2013.

Later that day, the president called Harris to apologize for the remark.

“You know, they are old friends and good friends,” then-White House press secretary Jay Carney, told the New York Times. "he did not want in any way to diminish the attorney general’s professional accomplishments and her capabilities.”

“Kamala’s experience has taught her that if you’re going to give everybody a fair shot, you’ve got to take on the special interests that too often stand in the way of progress,” Obama said in today's statement.

Vice-President Joe Biden also gave his nod to Harris, saying via press release Tuesday that “Today’s Senate needs people like her - leaders who will always fight to make a difference and who never forget where they come from.”

Harris served two terms as San Francisco's District Attorney before being elected as CA AG in 2010. In January of last year she announced her campaign to run for the US Senate seat presently occupied by Barbara Boxer, who has represented California in the Senate since 1992 and will be retiring. From her announcement on, Harris was seen as the frontrunner for the seat, roundly beating her opponent, Orange County Democratic congresswoman Loretta Sanchez, in both polling and fundraising.

If elected, Harris will make history: As the daughter of immigrants from India and Jamaica, she would be the first Indian woman and second black woman elected to the Senate. In a brief email sent Tuesday morning, Harris responded to the endorsements, saying that she was was honored to receive the support of two “incredible leaders for our nation.”

President Obama's Visit With Mark Zuckerberg Will Snarl SoMa Traffic Tonight

President Barack Obama has a Very Silicon Valley Friday planned.

SF News

mark zuckerberg

Obama

soma

traffic

Eve Batey

President Barack Obama has a Very Silicon Valley Friday planned, with both a Stanford entrepreneurship summit and a Mark Zuckerberg confab on his agenda. But though he doesn't have any SF events planned, POTUS will still make ripples in San Francisco as soon as tonight, as his plans to stay in a SoMa hotel will close streets and snarl traffic.

According to the White House, Obama is scheduled to arrive at Santa Clara County's Moffett Field at 6 this evening. His motorcade will then head up the freeway to SF, disrupting traffic as it travels.

The president will be staying (as he usually does) at the Intercontinental Hotel at 888 Howard Street, ABC 7 reports. Barricades have already been erected in front of the hotel, and as of this afternoon Fifth Street will be closed between Mission and Folsom and Howard will be closed between Fourth to Fifth streets.

Expect further traffic challenges Friday, when Obama will head to Palo Alto to attend Stanford's Global Entrepreneurship Summit. While he's down there, the president will also meet with Zuck to "do a Facebook Live chat and also a Google Portal conversation," ABC 7 reports.

By mid-day Friday, however, San Francisco's presidential traffic troubles will be over, with the streets closed for his visit expected to reopen by around noon. Until then, though, drivers are warned that South of Market traffic will be even worse than usual, especially for those on Mission or Sixth Streets. According to officials, drivers should expect significant delays, and if possible they should avoid the area entirely.

President Obama To Party With Spider-Man, Head To SF

No super heroes are scheduled to attend the San Francisco events.

SF News

Obama

potus

president

Eve Batey

Just hours after a breakfast date with one of Hollywood's Spidermen, President Barack Obama will alight in San Francisco for a whirlwind 24-hour visit.

Variety reports that on Thursday, POTUS will enjoy a breakfast fundraiser at the Los Angeles home of actor Tobey Maguire, aka 2002-2007's webbed wonder.

After that, the White House confirms, Obama will head north on Air Force One. He'll land at San Francisco International at 1:25 p.m. Friday "where he will attend a DNC and a DCCC event" that, it appears, will not contain any super heroes.

The President will then spend the night in SF, the White House confirms, and will hop back on Air Force One at 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

As always, expect street and freeway closures as Obama travels through our little burg — and if you see a big motorcade Friday or Saturday, now you know who it's for!

As Soon As It's Floated, Kamala Harris Squashes Supreme Court Nomination Talk

The names of two other Californians have been floated as possible nominees for the Supreme Court.

SF News

Kamala Harris

Obama

scotus

Supreme Court

Jack Morse

Quickly putting to rest any notion that she would be President Obama's nominee to replace deceased Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, California's Attorney General and current candidate for Senate Kamala Harris publicly stated that she does not want the job.

“I’m not going to be on the Supreme Court," CBS5 reports Harris as saying at San Jose campaign event. "Take my name off the list.”

Harris was one of the names being floated in the press as a potential nominee — a group that includes at least two other Californians: Jacqueline Nguyen and Paul Watford, both of the Ninth Circuit Court.

"Both of them have stellar records," ABC7 Political Analyst Carla Marinucci noted, "and both of them would be interesting additions to the court, not only because of the ethnic mix, but because of their background and their history."

Harris is seeking to fill the soon-to-be empty seat of Senator Barbara Boxer, who is retiring, and would likely have been a long-shot candidate for the Court as she has no judicial experience. Whoever is eventually nominated by the President will face strong opposition from Republicans in the Senate, who are gearing up to oppose the President's nominee — regardless of whether or not that person is from California.

THE PRESIDENT: Welcome to the White House, everybody. Give it up for the NBA Champion Golden State Warriors! Everybody please have a seat. Now, let me begin by saying I was hoping that Riley Curry would be here today — (laughter) — to share the podium with me, but I guess I’m going to have to get media training some other day.

The East Room is not as loud as the “Roaracle,” but Dub Nation is well represented. We’ve got some members of my Cabinet and Congress in the house who are big fans, and I don’t just mean Harrison Barnes, who apparently they call “The Senator.” He’s from Iowa, so maybe he’s got some politics in his blood. But we’ve got one of the biggest Golden State Warrior fans around, our Leader in the House of Representatives, Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi. We’ve got Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy is here, so this is bipartisan. We have Mayor Schaaf is here. So we’re glad you’re here to celebrate the best in the Bay.

I also want to recognize Warriors Executive Board member and NBA legend, one of the greatest of all time, the logo, Jerry West. As well as owner Joe Lacob, and General Manager Bob Myers. Give them a big round of applause.

Now, it is rare to be in the presence of guys from the greatest team in NBA history. So we’re pretty lucky today, because we’ve got one of those players in the house — Steve Kerr from the 1995-‘96 Chicago Bulls! (Laughter and applause.) It’s good to see you back.

Now, for those of you who don’t know, the Warriors started this season without Coach Kerr, who was recovering from back surgery. So Luke Walton stepped up and led the team to a ridiculous 39-4 record. Unfortunately, the NBA won’t let Luke count those wins as his own. Which, man, that doesn’t seem fair. You defied the cynics, you accomplished big things, you racked up a great record, and you don’t get enough credit. (Laughter and applause.) I can’t imagine how that feels.

Now, let’s face it, the Warriors are in the midst of a pretty special two-year run. Folks are saying that they are “revolutionizing” basketball. They are so good that they seem to be just breaking the game itself. And I don’t play anymore, but I still know a little bit about basketball, and this really is one of the best that we’ve ever seen. Great shooting, great passing, a small-ball “nuclear lineup” — it’s almost not fair. And they play not just well, but they play well together. They play as a team the way basketball is supposed to be played. And it’s beautiful to watch when they’re working on all cylinders.

Now, let’s face it, “beautiful” was not how folks described the Warriors for many years. I may be one of the few who are old enough to remember the last time they were good, back in the middle of the ‘70s, I was — the last time they won a championship — I was 10 years old. So the franchise, it had some good teams and some great players, but it had been struggling. One college player forgot that there was even a team in Oakland — that was Klay Thompson, by the way.

But a few years ago, Joe Lacob took over, pointed to that 1975 championship banner and said, “That’s a very lonely flag. We need another one.” And last year they got it — 67 wins, 16 straight at one point. That used to seem like a lot until this year — (laughter) — where they started off 24-0. Ended last season with their first title in 40 years.

And obviously, a big part of that was league MVP, Steph Curry. Steph is a pretty good shooter.

For those of you who watched the game against the Wizards last night, he was — to use slang — he was “clowning.” He was all jumping up and down. Just settle down. By the way, for the record, I heard during this summer, after our golf game, that Steph was using the excuse of Secret Service being intimidating for why he lost the match. That is not the case. But he will have another opportunity. Obviously, watching Steph play is incredible. And for anybody who enjoys basketball, it is just a lot of fun.

But it’s not just Steph. There’s the other “Splash Brother,” Klay, who dropped 37 points in a quarter, and whose jump shot is actually a little prettier. I’m just saying. There were Barnes dunks, Bogut blocks, Draymond Green showing us “heart over height” every single night. Draymond is also known to add a few more words that I cannot repeat. Then you’ve got a couple of unselfish All-Stars in their own right that were coming off the bench — Andre Iguodala and David Lee. And a bench that was so good that an opposing coach complained, “they’ve got two starting lineups.”

In the Finals, Golden State faced Cleveland and a guy named LeBron. Down two games to one, Coach Kerr had the guts to shake up the lineup — and it worked. Andre came off the bench, played great D, took home the Finals MVP. And it was a perfect example of the kind of team this is — everybody doing their part, everybody ready to step up at any moment. Unselfish play. Folks looking out for each other.

And it’s the same kind of selflessness that the Warriors show in their community, as well. They’ve led the way for the NBA’s commitment to our My Brother’s Keeper initiative, promoting mentoring in the Bay Area and nationwide. I know they met with some students in the White House mentor program earlier today.

This team is also supporting the city’s Oakland Promise effort to help more kids make it through college.

You’ve had players take a stand against gun violence. They’ve worked with Michelle’s Let’s Move initiative. They’ve dressed up as Santa to deliver Christmas presents to those in need. And the first time I met Steph was because he had partnered with the U.N. Foundation to donate three anti-malarial mosquito nets for every three-pointer he makes. So last night, that’s 33 nets. So keep shooting, Steph. Not that he needs any encouragement, obviously.

The point is, this is a great basketball team, but it’s a great organization, it’s a great culture. And these are outstanding young men. And some of them I’ve met before. Steph I’ve gotten to know a little better. They’re just — they’re the kind of people you want representing a city, representing the NBA, and the kind of people that you want our kids to be rooting for.

So they have a lot to be proud of. Good luck for the rest of this season. Maybe you’ll break that Bulls record. But as Coach Kerr pointed out, he wins either way. Either way, he’s got the record.

So thanks, everybody. Congratulations.

Do you want to say something?

COACH KERR: Thank you. I’m actually — I’m a little thirsty. Is that my water or yours?

THE PRESIDENT: It is. Go for it.

COACH KERR: I thought maybe it was yours. I’m guessing it’s yours.

I want to say thank you. I also want to say congratulations for becoming the first President in our nation’s great history to use the term “clowning.” Although maybe Teddy Roosevelt used it somewhere in there, I don’t know. But we want to thank you. Our organization is so honored to be here, to meet you, to tour the White House, and to celebrate our championship with you here.

Our general manager, Bob Myers, who you met earlier, also mentioned to me that you’re going to be a free agent at the end of this year. So we don’t know if you have anything lined up yet, but —

THE PRESIDENT: I’m ready to go.

COACH KERR: You can consider this a symbol of an offer that’s coming. We want you — as soon as your duties are done here in the White House, we’d like you to be the leader of Dub Nation.

President Obama had some words of advice this morning for the 2020 campaign's current frontrunner.

The President was at San Francisco's Warfield Theater on Saturday morning for a DNC fundraiser where the rapper also performed, making it one of the few times in Kanye's career that he wasn't at the top of the bill. Tickets cost between $250 and $10,000, according to SFGate.

"Kanye is thinking about running... for Speaker of the House," Obama joked with the crowd. "In case Kanye is serious about this whole POTUS thing—or as he calls it 'peezy'—I do have advice for him."

"First of all you gotta spend a lot of time dealing with some strange characters who behave like they're on a reality TV show," said Obama. "So you gotta be cool with that." He seems cool with that.

"Saying that you have a 'beautiful dark twisted fantasy,'" he continued, with a reference to West's 2010 album. "That's what's known as 'off-message' in politics."

"And number three: do you really think this country is going to elect a black guy from the south side of Chicago with a funny name to be president of the United States?" he concluded. "That is crazy!"

In exchange for the advice, West gifted the Prez wit two pairs of Yeezy Boosts:

Obama left later that morning and flew to Los Angeles, where he'll attending three private fundraisers, including a Jamie Foxx concert.

City Hall Centennial + President Obama In SF = Big Traffic Trouble

President Barack Obama is scheduled to arrive in the Bay Area tomorrow afternoon for a series of fundraisers.

SF News

Barack Obama

City Hall

Obama

SFO

Eve Batey

Folks hitting the road after the Warriors victory parade or before City Hall's big centennial celebration might have another issue to contend with Friday, as President Barack Obama is scheduled to arrive in the Bay Area tomorrow afternoon.

According to the Associated Press, Obama will land at SFO at 1 p.m. Friday, following a Thursday spent at various swanky Los Angeles shindigs.

The AP reports that the president will spend this evening first at "an event at the home of Two and A Half Men creator Chuck Lorre in Pacific Palisades, followed by dinner at the home of filmmaker Tyler Perry in Beverly Hills."

The next day, he'll schlep up here for far less glamorous activities, addressing the 83rd annual meeting of the U.S. Conference of Mayors at the Hilton San Francisco Union Square Hotel, CBS5 reports.

He'll also attend fundraisers for the Democratic National Committee and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, including "a roundtable at the home of venture capitalist Shervin Pishevar, with around 30 supporters attending and donating $33,400 each," and a $10,000-a-person reception hosted by billionaire Tom Steyer.

San Franciscans attending the Warriors celebration will probably start heading back to SF at around 2 p.m., organizers say. San Francisco's City Hall centennial, which will close several streets in the Civic Center area and is expected to draw between 10-15,000 people, will run from 6-10 p.m Friday night.

Add to the mix Obama's trips across SF and you've got the potential for a traffic disaster.

"As [Obama] travels around the city you can expect delays as the motorcade travels. We do shut down streets," San Francisco Police Department spokesperson Officer Grace Gatpandan told KTVU.

Following his fundraisers, Obama is scheduled to crash in SF for the night. He'll leave SFO at around 9:40 a.m. Saturday.

Brace For Traffic Trauma: President Obama Hits SF Again Tonight

Obama's coming to town tonight, which means sudden road closures and snarls for your commute.

SF News

Obama

president obama

Stanford

traffic

Eve Batey

Did Democratic fundraisers manage to fill all the deeply-discounted seats at the "intimate" dinner with President Obama scheduled for Friday night? We're not so sure about that, but there's one thing we do know: traffic in San Francisco tonight and tomorrow will be suffering as a result of POTUS' 20th visit to the Bay Area.

According to the White House, Air Force One is expected to arrive at SFO at 5:40 this evening, for what the Chron notes will be his 20th visit to the Bay Area since being elected president.

Though, as is typical policy, the White House has not disclosed where Obama will be staying the night, the Chron notes that he usually rests his head at SF's Hotel Intercontinental (888 Howard Street in SoMa) when in the Bay Area. (Update: According to the press pool report, Obama is actually staying at the Fairmont, in Nob Hill.)

Therefore, it's safe to assume that 101 and 280, at least the northbound routes, will have serious delays during the commute hour as Obama travels from the airport to SF, and that SoMa streets will be closed to accommodate him as he heads to his hotel this evening.

Friday, he'll head back down the freeway for a White House sponsored cybersecurity event at Stanford, where the Chron says he is expected to "bring the sexy back," an allusion to a nearly ten-year-old song recorded by former boy band sensation Justin Timberlake.

As befits someone who inspires references to past-the-sell-by-date songs, Obama will then head back to SF (so, more road closures and backups) for a Friday night dinner with, as we previously reported, Russian Hill rich people Sanford and Jeanne Robertson and 60-or-so people who paid $10K for the meal, a photo with POTUS, and a Q&A.

After the dinner, Obama is presently scheduled to return to his hotel (say it with me, road closures again), then will depart SFO on Saturday morning.

Oh, what a difference a few months makes! Just a few months ago, fans of President Barack Obama ponied up over $32K to bask in his glow. Fast forward to today, and fundraisers are beating the bushes for practically anyone who'll spend $10,000 for a small gathering with POTUS later this month.

When Obama was last in the Bay Area, in October 2014, attendance at a "round table" discussion at the San Francisco home of Democratic donor/Zynga founder Mark Pincus ran participants about $32,400, the AP reported at the time.

Now Obama is planning on returning, to, as the Chron reports, attend a White House cybersecurity summit at Stanford University. But he'll also be here to raise some money for the Democratic Party, according to an email obtained by SFist from a fundraiser for the party.

"I am absolutely elated to invite you to an intimate dinner with President Barack Obama in San Francisco on February 13, 2015 at the home of Sandy and Jeanne Robertson," the email, which was sent Saturday, begins.

According to the Opus Capital website, "Sanford Robertson pioneered the creation of the West Coast technology banking industry in the late 1960s, and has remained one of the industry’s most renowned participants." He is "a principal with Francisco Partners, a $2.5 billion technology buyout fund." Sounds like a fun guy!

"This 60 person experience will include dinner, a photo with President Obama, Remarks and Q&A with the President," the email continues.

According to the PDF attached to the email, participants can pay $10,000 for the "intimate" dinner, a photo with POTUS, and participation in a "Q&A." People who are really into it can pony up $32,400 to get listed as a co-chair (which includes your name on the invitation) and to bring a plus-one, as well as the food and photo.

In the fundraiser's words, as of this weekend, "many" seats were still available, and anyone and everyone is encouraged to dig deep (but, clearly, not as deep us they used to have to) for a night rubbing shoulders with the man ostensibly still in charge.

President Obama All Set To Make SF's Friday Afternoon Traffic Even Worse

Whatever you do, don't try to get through SoMa this afternoon/evening.

SF News

fundraiser

Obama

traffic

Eve Batey

As if downtown's Salesforce convention street shutdowns weren't set to make downtown San Francisco traffic a total hairball this afternoon, now the President's coming to town to muck it up even more. THANKS OBAMA.

As we previously reported, POTUS will be gracing SF with his presence for a Democratic National Committee fundraiser. As we previously did not report, however, the fundraiser's been moved from City Hall (a DNC insider tells SFist, for "security reasons," which sure is comforting) to the W Hotel at Third and Howard, right in the center of a Salesforced street closure. Since Obama's motorcade closes every street through which it passes, that is going to make for one fun night in SoMa!

According to the White House, Obama's supposed to land at SFO at 3:30, and will be at the W event by 7:05. The Chron reports that he'll spend the night in SF, hit another DNC fundraiser Saturday morning, and will be on his way.

Outside the W event, which will also feature a performance by Maxwell (I was wondering what happened to that guy!), expect an "Emergency Protest Demonstration" at which groups like World Can’t Wait, Code Pink, and ANSWER Coalition "will demonstrate to denounce U.S. air strikes and other war moves, aggression, and military action in Syria, Iraq, and the entire region," they say via press release.

They also promise that "a replica of a war-fighting drone will fly over the protest," which certainly sounds fun.

The activists say they'll start gathering outside the W at around 3, creating yet another traffic wrinkle for anyone trying to make it though SoMa this afternoon.

But don't worry, as the cops say that they are ON IT! As San Francisco Police Department spokesperson Officer Gordon Shyy tells the Chron, “We’ve got a lot of experience with this, since (Obama) comes here quite often..We’ll be allowing them to have their free speech rights, but also making sure that people abide by traffic laws and other regulations."

Barack Obama is in town. Maybe you've heard? He's here for a fundraising efforts, which, alas, aren't as lustrous and bountiful compared to years prior. Adding to his woes? The President was heckled by an immigration activist during a speech today while speaking to a crowd at the Betty Ann Ong Chinese Recreation Center.

The Washington Times has more:

Immigration-rights protesters interrupted President Obama’s speech Monday demanding he use executive powers to immediately halt all deportations, but he rebuked them, telling them he doesn’t have that power.

“You have a power to stop deportation,” one man, standing directly behind Mr. Obama, shouted near the end of the president’s immigration speech in San Francisco, who then began to lead chants of “Stop deportation!”

“Actually, I don’t, and that’s why we are here,” Mr. Obama replied.

When security moved to escort the protester out of the room, Mr. Obama told them to hold off.

According to NBC Bay Area, the heckler was identified as Ju Hong, a noted 24-year-old activist, who was featured in 2012's Ju Hong, UC Berkeley Undocumented Student."

Care of NBC Bay Area, watch Hong (sort of seen in the upper left) heckle Obama below:

As Batkid's heroic rescue of our nation's cold hearts continues from the streets of San Francisco to the morning talk show circuit, our tiny national hero has suddenly found himself too busy to talk with the leader of the free world. Such is the life of a kindergarten superhero.

President Obama is visiting San Francisco this week on a fundraising mission to meet with his historically lucrative donor base in the Bay Area. After Team Obama crafted a special message to Batkid on his big day earlier this month, the White House reached out to the young celebrity and cancer patient for a one-on-one meeting on Miles "Batkid" Scott's home turf. Unfortunately for the President, Miles was already booked today on Good Morning America where the young hero got to meet lower-ranking Democrat George Stephanopoulos instead.

After heading to New York City, Miles was greeted with a replica "batcave" at ABC's GMA studio in Times Square. From there, the endlessly energetic five-year-old was (once again) called into action to stop the Joker and the Penguin for the benefit of adults nationwide. While on the job in New York, Miles rescued rapper Pitbull, who performed last night at the American Music Awards alongside squawky enemy of sobriety Ke$ha.

Also, according to ABC, "Miles received a personal welcome from New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, an original badge from the first Batman film and a framed rendering of a comic featuring himself as Batkid."

"It's been amazing," Miles' father Nick said on GMA. "We never expected anything like this, on a level like this." Nick Scott and his wife Natalie also announced last week that they have partnered with the San Francisco 49ers Foundation to create the Batkid fund to raise funds for Ronald McDonald House, the Make-a-Wish Foundation and Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center in Oregon — three organizations that helped Miles cope with his leukemia when he was diagnosed at only 18 months old.

How about that. Today's transformation of San Francisco into Gotham City for five-year-old Miles—now known as Batkid—promoted a lot of attention, earnestness, and tears. (Some of them right here at the SFist office.) Now President Barack Obama is getting in on the heart-tugging story with a Vine message for Miles.

That's sweet. Very much so. But Obama should get his website working rather than trying to glom onto the heartwarming story of the week.
