That comes after a Sunday New York Times poll showed Biden behind in five swing states expected to determine the outcome of the election.

Gavin Newsom is answering the call to shore up support for Biden, from a money perspective, at least. Politico reports that Newsom will be hosting a “super event” fundraiser for the 2024 Biden-Harris campaign at some point during the APEC summit proceedings set to start Saturday and run through next Friday.

The date and location of the event are not named. But recent Biden fundraising events in the Bay Area have required $5,000-$100,000 to attend, so that gives you a sense of the demographic that will be attending.

Politico notes that “Other hosts include Clint and Janet Reilly,” so it’s not out of the question that the event could be held at the Reillys’ home. Clint Reilly is a local real estate mogul who currently owns the SF Examiner (and killed off SF Weekly), ran a ton of political campaigns in the 1990s, and unsuccessfully ran against Willie Brown in the 1999 SF mayoral election.

According to Politico, the Biden reelection campaign expects to raise $2 billion over the course of the next year.

Related: Biden Will Indeed Meet In SF With Chinese President Xi Jinping at APEC, According to White House [SFist]

Image: LONG BEACH, CA - SEPTEMBER 13: U.S. President Joe Biden, California Gov.
Now this is our kinda car-sharing service! Mayor Ed Lee welcomed little-known nonprofit grassroots effort BMW into San Francisco by way of electric-car sharing on Monday. It was all a part of the DriveNow and ParkNow services that, "lets smart drivers easily find and book a parking spot in advance at ParkNow garages located in and around San Francisco."

Who is it for? Oh, everyone. The little people. The bleu collars. The burrito eaters. You. Us. Harmony.

The rate, according to SF Appeal, is "$12 for the first 30 minutes of driving, followed by 32 cents for each additional minute, with a cap at $90 per day." (Compare that to City Car Share, which can range from $5-$7 per house during regular drive times.) The cars can be picked up and tossed away like last year's Burberry at any of the eight stations littered throughout San Francisco.

Regarding the swank car-sharing program, Mayor Ed Lee newsomed that it should make San Francisco "more sustainable in our mobility" and that we are "getting greener and smarter." Appeal goes on to report that the service will launch next month, and will "eventually include more than 100 additional locations."

Former SF Examiner Executive Editor New Newsom Deputy Chief Of Staff

Proving that there is a better life after local media, former San Francisco Examiner executive editor (and all-around swell human being) Deirdre Hussey has been hired on as Lieutenant Gavin Newsom's d...

SF News

Deirdre Hussey

Gavin Newsom

Newsom

Brock Keeling

Proving that there is a better life after local media, former San Francisco Examiner executive editor (and all-around swell human being) Deirdre Hussey has been hired on as Lieutenant Gavin Newsom's deputy chief of staff. She will be in charge of communications, social media, and help with public policy and strategy. Hussey spent a decade at the SF Examiner prior to her new gig with Newsom. (Crankypants commenter Stephen Buel currently mans the paper's editorial voice.)

"Lt. Governor Newsom is a visionary, as we were reminded last week with the announcements regarding gay marriage. He has proposed and implemented public policy in areas such as health care and the environment that has set the national agenda. It is rare opportunity to be part of political team that is innovative and creative,” said Hussey on the appointment.

Congratulations goes out to Hussey. And we couldn't be more elated. The show will feature the Gav interviewing exceptionally wealthy people who have a disproportionate amount of power in Silicon Valley, Hollywood, and in politics. A mutual fellatio festival of money and fame, so to speak. Hold onto your barf bags. It's going to be a perfectly-coifed ride.

The press release from Current TV explains: "The hour-long talk show will have a decidedly California touch as Newsom interviews notables from Silicon Valley, Hollywood and beyond." Produced by Mia Haugen a former executive at The Street and CNN, the show will be cleverly titled The Gavin Newsom Show.

This is all a bid to get Newsom in the Governor's seat as soon as Jerry Brown leaves office. Because that throne is his. We all know it's his. Whether you like it or not. Why, even a former U.S. Vice President can't stop swooning over Newsom. Can you blame him?

"Gavin Newsom is a courageous leader who has boldly seized every opportunity to create positive social change,” said Current TV founder Al Gore, in between polishing his Oscar and Nobel Prize, adding, "First as a successful entrepreneur, then in his role as Mayor of San Francisco, and now as Lieutenant Governor, Newsom touches many worlds - business, politics, entertainment and activism. We are honored that Current TV will be bringing his curiosity, intelligence, insights and enthusiasm to television."

If only the cafe that prepares our morning bagel with cream cheese would lay it on this thick.

Anyway, the only way this show will be truly successful is if it liberally features his wife, former SFist commenter Jennifer Siebel-Newsom, on each episode to give thoughtful yet concerned looks when the camera pans her way.
Today, California Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom asked for people to stop using the "r-word" (in vulgar parlors: "retard," "retarded") in conversation and written text. Although we suspect any campaign to end argot has the reverse effect, you can visit www.r-word.org for more details. More or less. Take, for example, Jennifer Siebel-Newsom, whose documentary Miss Representation premiered.

Local photographer Drew Altizer, whose new site SFWire.com keeps track of all your favorite local rich freakazoids, snapped these shots of the former SF first lady Jennifer Siebel-Newsom and her pals, including Gloria Steinem and <s>Jo Reynolds</s> Daphne Zuniga.

Siebel-Newsom's documentary features Margaret Cho, Katie Couric, Geena Davis, Rosario Dawson, Dianne Feinstein, Jane Fonda, Paul Haggis, Catherine Hardwicke, Dolores Huerta, Jackson Katz, Jean Kilbourne, Martha Lauzen, Lisa Ling, Rachel Maddow, and more. According to its IMDB page, the movie "[e]xplores the under-representation of women in positions of power and influence in America, and challenges the media's limited portrayal of what it means to be a powerful woman" Which sounds right up our alley, so look elsewhere for snide commentary about it.

Speaking of snide, Dede Wilsey's son Todd Traina debuted his newest film at Sundance, too. It's called Another Happy Day, a film about "touchy dynamics." It looks good. Unless it's loaded with quirky characters. In which case, forget it. We loathe quirky characters, which is what, for us, made Six Feet Under unwatchable. We digress.

And on Masonic Street, there's reason for the Newsoms to rejoice (having nothing to do with Larry Ellison). Raise your Christmas Eve glasses tonight to toast Jennifer Siebel Newsom, Gavin Newsom, and baby Montana, who'll become a big sister in June. I'd made some inquiries about this a few months ago, but the first family was shy about it until late Wednesday, when Siebel Newsom called with confirmation. Thursday, mayoral evasion on the issue led Ronn Owens to figure it out.

The baby-in-the-making is a boy, and his due date is June 19, which is Siebel Newsom's birthday. The family plans to keep on living here, in the Upper Haight, while the new lieutenant governor commutes to his job in Sacramento.

An heir to the Newsom throne? Delightful.

Congratulations to the entire Newsom family.

We asked who you wanted as the interim San Francisco mayor yesterday. A decent pool of 560 responded to our unscientific poll. The winner? David Chiu.

Did you hear? Mayor Gavin Newsom will be your next Lieutenant Governor. (Who knew a complex city like San Francisco, one balancing precariously on a precipice, could also make for a perfect rung on the ladder to statewide success!) On Tuesday, Board of Supervisors President David Chiu will "introduce an ordinance that would outline the process for selecting an interim mayor." That person will serve until November of 2011.

So. Just who will said interim mayor be? We can't say for sure just yet. Until then, tell us who you'd like to see sitting on the S.F. throne, won't you? Here are some names -- some random (Pelosi?!), some not so random (if the BoS cannot agree on a candidate, Chiu becomes 'acting mayor') -- whose names have been bandied about in recent weeks.
