What a delightfully diverting game of Muni roulette! Several stops on the 43 line will be "intermittently closed." Maybe they're open; maybe they're not -- the only way to know for sure is to waste your time walking over to them to check! And then waste your time walking to another stop. And hey, where exactly ARE those other stops? There's no map on the sign, so if you don't know the area, you're......

Oh Muni, what won't you misplace! Apparently some reports have gone missing. Or have they? Muni used to produce daily reports on service levels, making them available to the public; but when Nat Ford showed up, according to transit enthusiasts, the reports stopped coming out. Now, we're told, the reports only go to the Citizens Advisory Council; the general public, allegedly, has been shut out. But wait! The plot thickens. There's a rumor in......

Anyone who follows Muni knows to roll their eyes when the subject of ATCS comes up. That's the lousy old software that controls the trains in the subway -- it was supposed to speed things up when it was installed back in the 90s, but as we know, subway service is slow slow slow. It's also to blame for those incomprehensible maps displayed on the flat-screens on the platforms. And now, finally, it's close......

It's not often we get to say it, so let's relish the feeling: yay Muni! Today, Muni boss Nat Ford joined a bunch of other transit officials in making some nice suggestions for the future of federal transportation planning. And you know what, it actually looks pretty good. Currently, America's transit planning is guided by a bill called "SAFETEA-LU," signed a couple years ago by still-president Bush. It expires in 2009, and a group......

So, this inane bus shelter, also known as a "living roof," is all a part of Newsom plan to get elected Governor of California. (Let's hear it for the amusement parkification of SF until he leave office! Wee!) The new shelters, you see, mimic the 2.5 acre "living roof" gracing the top of the new California Academy of Sciences building. Droll, yes? According to Team Newsom: The California Academy of Sciences, working with the......

Here at SFist, you can say what you want about MUNI -- or rather, you can write what you want. But Crosscurrents, a radio show on KALW 91.7, will let you actually say it, like out loud, with your voice. Crosscurrents now includes a feature called MUNI Diaries. You can listen to the three entries that are up there now (the 71 Haight is currently over-represented, with the 35 Eureka close behind), or call......

Well, here's one of them, a preview of the new "green bus stop." They're temporary, we're told, which confuses us even more. Also, we fail to see how this will make the buses start running on time, but...there you go. Image taken at Fulton (sort of) and McAllister.......

Today at 11:45, Gavin's holding a press conference to show off what's being called a "green bus shelter." Neato! What do you think it'll be? Will it be a wretched hexagon, or a lgit sketch, or a tiny pottery barn? Let's look back in time and see what Muni promised us a year ago. Remember October of 2007? The city was atwitter with bus shelter mania as Muni reached an agreement with Clear Channel......

TODAY: Critical Mass, 6 p.m. Bicycle ride will begin from Justin Herman Plaza and end all up in your face. You've been warned. SUNDAY: Hairrison Street Fair/Bear Week, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Large homosexual men, who think of themselves as a minority of sorts, will have a big ol' party in SoMa. That means these streets will be closed during that time: Harrison from 11th Street to Division, 12th Street from Harrison to......

We all had a great time piling on Muni last weekend, foaming and ranting about service to and from the park. But what was going on behind the scenes? We asked Muni how they strategized their service around Outside Lands. Here's what they had to say: "Over the weekend, the total number of extra buses was 118 -- that was divided between the 5 and 71 as needed. They even used extra buses on......

Speaking of Muni-related brilliance, after a 27-Bryant smashed into another vehicle at 23rd and Bryant streets, one passenger was sent to the hospital with "unknown" injuries. The accident happened just a little before 9 a.m. (Anyone see it?) Oh, and the driver of said 27-Bryant will be given a drug test and be "placed on non-driving status" as the powers that be investigate the cause of the crash. (CBS 5)......

As incredible as it sounds," says the regally named Nathaniel P. Ford, Sr., SFMTA's Executive Director, in this morning's glowing press release, "preliminary ridership reports show that Muni had over 117,000 additional boardings this weekend, which included three Giants games at AT&T Park and the Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival in Golden Gate Park on opposite ends of The City." Over 117,000 additional boardings? Oh my. Anyway, Muni is patting itself on the......

This means that trains to downtown from West Portal are s...l...o...w (ten minutes or so from Forest Hill to Castro station), and the J and L will crawl once they hit the Duboce Tunnel. If you have a morning meeting, you're probably gonna be late.......

A little before 9 a.m. an N-Judah hit and injured a woman riding on a moped in the Sunset district. The accident, according to KCBS, happened at Judah and 30th. The woman was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive. (KCBS) UPDATE: ABC 7's Kristen Sze tells us she's currently being treated for "life-threatening" injuries. Sounds more serious than previously thought. More to come.......

Jim Herd at SF Citizen sent us this urgent message just now: "Ten mins ago. Lexus GS400 hit truck one block away. Driver went one block and then hit a Fulton 5. Driver ran into projects." Holy smokes. Anyone see what went down? We'll update as soon as we know more. UPDATE 1: NextBus shows a deactivated 5 Fulton parked at Webster/McAllister. All other buses seem to be operating as normal (which means big......

While SFist understands your frustrations with Muni, we advise against physically assaulting drivers. Take, for example, David Maldonado, 21, who was arrested on Monday night, charged with aggravated assault after attacking a Muni driver with a fire extinguisher. Occurring at Fisherman’s Wharf on the F-line, the unidentified driver was sent to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Some sort of heated argument between the two, it seems, turned physical. Ugh. Anyway, there have been 67 reported......

A little before 6:30 p.m. last night, two F-line streetcars rammed into each other at The Embarcadero and Washington, sending both operators and four passengers to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Other wounded passengers were treated on the spot. According to Judson True, SFMTA spokesking, "The collision is under investigation." Anyone with raw footage of the crash, like last June's T-Line crash over at AT&T Park, is urged to post it right-quick for our temporary......

Pics of the meltdown at Church/Duboce, with shuttle buses picking up frustrated passengers this morning. Why did it happen? Your guess is as good as Muni's. But according to Jameth: All outbound N service is stopped here and trains are diverting along the J line. Shuttle bus service is active between here and Ocean Beach. I see an ambulance at the Dubce Park tunnel entrance. Inbound J service is also disrupted; service vehicles are......

We roll our eyes whenever politicians whine about Muni losing money (public transportation is not a for-profit enterprise anywhere), we do get frustrated when we see pass-fakers, gate-crashers, and other reasons that showcase how antiquated the Muni fare collection system is. See, if Muni could actually collect the fares that people are supposed to pay, they would have more money to maintain things and (fantasy world here) have things show up on time. We......

Photo by Matt Bellinger SFist James sends us this photo, care of Matt Bellinger, of some packed albeit controversial Muni action that happened this afternoon during rush hour. Wheelchair man, it seems, demanded to get on per federal law and holds up train at Civic Center; Muni operator and passengers refuse to let him on. Operator was literally screaming at the guy to get out of the doorway of the packed train. Should he......

There are no further details at this time." Will update as we know more.......

Mystery solved! Probably! Thanks our perceptive readers, we have learned what was maybe on the mind of the lady we posted about yesterday, the one who was gently blocking access to an empty seat. Also, we've learned that SFist readers are violent, flatulent racists. Here's what she was probably thinking: "In my country of origin, I learned that public transit is lousy and over-crowded. So if I want to get off of this rumbling......

It's just that you've been there for the last eight stops, and the bus is so very crowded right now, and everyone around you is standing, and you've kept this extra spot reserved for -- what, exactly? Did you know that the Taxi Commission is going to be transferring their duties over to the SFMTA (the blob that runs Muni, parking meters, traffic lights, and stuff like that)? By consolidating all of SF's ground transportation under one agency, the MTA can ensure that all trips throughout the city are slow, unreliable, and involve a minimum of 75% surliness. (SF's taxi-surliness index is currently hovering just under 60%.) Of course the real......

Aw. This story will toast your hearts to a golden brown. See, a gentleman on the 28-19th Avenue line, someone who spoke very little English, felt a hoodlum reach into his pocket and lift his billfold, which contained about $400. Boo! But then the victim proceeded to follow the hood off the bus, flag down a Cantonese-speaking cop (three cheers for bilingual fuzz enforcement!), and then have the guy arrested. Just like that! Plus, the......

Remember that lady who was struck by an N-Judah on Irving Street earlier this year in January? The victim, Dina Gryn, lost part of her leg after the accident, so SF is ponying up a cool $2 million. While trying to cross Ninth Avenue on a green light, an outbound train smacked her, resulting in her partial leg amputation. Ouch. And to no one's surprise, the driver was probably at fault, so now she gets......
