-- The Misfits: a little post-Halloween chillingness -- sexy, bare-chested, punk chillingness, that is -- for you tonight. Behold: the Misfits play a few ditties along with the Hellbillys and the Memphis Murder Men tonight at 8 p.m. at DNA Lounge; $20. -- Dodo for President: Written by Mark Eisman (LA Weekly's Best Playwright 2006, two-time [daytime] Emmy nominee) returns with this politcomedy. It's a "funny, quirky and touching look at friendships, presidential campaigns......

Attrition has been one of the Warriors' best pickups this offeseason. While the Warriors have taken some baby steps forward, many of the Western Conference rivals have been moving in the opposite direction.

When looking at the Warriors chances to make the playoffs this year, it runs from the bottom up....

-In JRich's first game back, the Warriors beat the Memphis Grizzlies in overtime 118-115. Monta Ellis had nine points in overtime to lead the way and Richardson had 19 points and 10 rebounds in his game back. The columnists think the Warriors will have delusions of grandeur and decide to stand pat during trade talks but that doesn't stop Golden State of Mind from linking to all the rumors out there concerning the Warriors. ...

If you were born after 1994 you have no idea what it's like. If you're a long-time fan, you might have a hazy, vague recollection of it. If you come from places like Los Angeles, Chicago, or Miami, you desperately miss it. We're talking a big game -- more specifically, a Warriors big game. An important game. A game that means something besides wrapping up a Lottery pick or nudging out Seattle or Memphis for the 11th overall spot in the Western Conference.

Tonight the Warriors play the Indiana Pacers in their biggest, most important game of this season or possibly the last 10 seasons. If the Dubs win, their slight hopes for the last playoff spot in the WC remain on life support; if they lose, consider the plug pulled on yet another failed season.

The good news is the Warriors scored 135 points last night in Memphis against the Grizzlies. Bet you can't see where this one is going. Yup. The bad news is that they gave up 144 points.

As the score indicates, the game was a track meet. It was also a tug-of-war match, with exciting bursts of alternating runs all night. Back and forth the entire game, both teams made runs, then got run, then made more runs. This was not the usual NBA game where one team jumps out to an early lead only to blow it in the fourth quarter and lose, with everything in between just dead air. Tonight there were 18 lead changes and 10 ties. Maybe it was the ball.

But in the end, the Warriors shooting abandoned them at the critical point in the game and the Griz made the final, close-out run.

It's not too early to make plans for Halloween weekend, and if you want to make this year especially memorable, hop a plane to Las Vegas for the Vegoose Music Festival. It's an impressive lineup of tons of bands in one place: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, The Mars Volta, The Raconteurs, Cat Power and the Memphis Rhythm Band (we'll see about that), Gomez, Fiona Apple, Jenny Lewis, BRMC, and a bunch of those jammy/jazzy......

Check out SFist Shelley with Henry Rollins (!!!) at last week's benefit for the West Memphis Three! MUNI madness: while SFist Eve meets the famous head of MUNI, Mr. Nathaniel Ford, SFist MattyMatt grits his teeth and waits in vain for the elusive 33. What else have we been doing? We're going to DocFest, the Mission Creek Music Festival, theater, and air guitar championships. We also went to check out the new Beard Papa......

LAist has so much fun this week! They go to E3, where they overhear the timeless remark "Man, this is where nerdy girls get laid." Is that a promise? They also give us this week's best CDs and make us realize that LA is the best place to use Zillow. Ah, Houstonist. They're biking to work, that is, if they can figure out how to get there. That's right, Mapquest says "Houston had the......

Heading into 111 Minna on Friday for the West Memphis Three benefit auction, we were excited at the prospect of seeing some of our punk rock heroes in attendance. Lo and behold, once past the five foot tall photographs of the WM3 staring mournfully at us as we entered, stood Henry Rollins casually chatting with about six or seven adoring kids and clutching a cup of coffee. Could this be? After all, Rollins has......

OK, so maybe we’re a little addicted to crime dramas, but when we finally rented HBO’s acclaimed Paradise Lost documentaries last year they literally changed our life. We’ve been following the plight of the West Memphis Three ever since. To give you some background: Damien Echols, Jessie Misskelley and Jason Baldwin were once three young boys in rural Arkansas who happened to listen to heavy metal and wear black. Shortly after three eight-year-old boys......

haroldford.jpgon hold -- because the invited city officials are becoming more and more uncomfortable with the fact that Ford voted yes on the Marriage Protection Act of 2004 (defining marriage as a heterosexual institution; Ford was one of only 36 Democrats who voted for it). Gavin "he's got game" Newsom, the original party co-chair, is now all like, "uhhh.... err.... I didn't know he'd voted yes on the bill when I agreed to host." Kamala Harris has suddenly discovered that her schedule is kind of booked as well (though it looks like Willie Brown's still game -- that guy does love a party, it's true). And Bubble Lounge manager Jane Kim (probably not the same Jane Kim that ran for school board -- but hey, you never know) is now like, I'm not sure if I'd rent the space to someone against gay marriage. Ford's all like, I don't care (reg. req.). He's never met Gavin Newsom, says plenty of people don't mind his opposition to gay marriage, and he's raising lots of money from everyone (else) anyways. "He's not an (eligible) voter for me. Gavin Newsom has his politics in San Francisco and I have mine in Tennessee." He's rated a "moderate liberal," despite voting yes on school prayer, yes on abortion restrictions, and yes on the war. ...

mlkbanner.jpgWe're on a lighter posting schedule today in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. -- we hope you have the day off to spend at a number of Bay Area celebrations scheduled for today. (If you don't get the day off, spend all day playing Public Enemy really, really loud). In San Francisco, the MLK parade will begin at 11:30 at the Fourth and King Street when the "Freedom Train" pulls into the Caltrain station, and goes up Third Street, down Market, and ends at Civic Center Plaza. Starting at 12:30, Representative Barbara Lee will speak, and local American Idol finalist LaToya London will perform. Dr. King advocated racial justice, most famously in his I Have A Dream speech in 1963, and was assassinated in Memphis in 1968. Keep the dream alive. ...
