KRON 4 reports that a dentist's office in San Francisco was targeted by some vandals, who painted a racist slur and a swastika on the office's window.

According to the report, the graffiti was composed of a swastika, the n-word, and then the word "die." The office belongs to Dr. Jeff Cox, who told KRON 4 that he's the first African-American dentist to set up an office in the city's financial district. The graffiti was first spotted by employees of the office, who took a photo and quickly washed it off. When asked how he felt about the graffiti, Dr. Cox said, "It’s stunning at first. It’s a little bit of a shock because you feel it’s not necessarily a San Francisco type of thing that you would see."

Given this past year, though, it seems all bets are off as to what "a San Francisco type of thing" might be these days. You'll remember late last year, shortly after the election, a man was arrested for spray painting a racial epithet and symbol on the outer wall of a business in Bayview. Shortly before that there was also the Dolores Heights homeowner who flew a Nazi flag over his home as "a comment" on the Trump victory. Or, over in the East Bay, ahead of the so-called "Free Speech Week" demonstration at UC Berkeley, part of the campus was covered in anti-LGBTQ, anti-abortion, anti-immigration chalk graffiti. On top of that, there's also the Temple Sinai in Oakland, which was tagged with anti-Semitic graffiti after a Rosh Hashanah celebration in September.

In Alameda, swastika flyers began popping up in August, targeting the area's Muslim community. At the same time, there were reports of vandalism at one Alameda synagogue, Temple Israel. Rabbi Steven Chester later commented on the vandalism, saying that neither he nor his congregation were scared of the potential threat underlying the acts.

Dr. Cox shares in that sentiment, as he explained to KRON 4, "I don’t take it personally and it doesn’t anger me. Very disappointing though that there are people like that. The bigots are becoming emboldened in today’s society and frankly I feel a little sorry for whoever would use such a vile word with little regard for the beautiful diversity of humanity."

Yet again this week Silicon Valley PR people are being roiled by news that some of their un-monitored algorithms have allowed for the spread of hate, and in this case, overt anti-Semitism. The situation was at first called out at Facebook, where Pro Publica, acting on a tip, went to purchase ads on Facebook and found that categories like "Jew hater" populated themselves in the ad-targeting system. Reporters there were able to pay Facebook $30 for three promoted posts targeting groups of users who matched the "fields of study" listed as "Jew hater,” “How to burn jews,” or, "Hitler did nothing wrong."

As you can see in the screenshot below, such targets, which also include "NaziParty" as a "field of study", could garner an advertiser some 2,400 potential users.

Facebook immediately responded with one of their rote statements, as Tech Crunch reports, about not allowing hate speech and "We know we have more work to do." And the offending categories were removed, with Facebook's product management director Rob Leathern telling Pro Publica, "we’re also building new guardrails in our product and review processes to prevent other issues like this from happening in the future."

Facebook further explained in this blog post how these categories came to be: "As people fill in their education or employer on their profile, we have found a small percentage of people who have entered offensive responses, in violation of our policies." The company adds, "ProPublica surfaced that these offensive education and employer fields were showing up in our ads interface as targetable audiences for campaigns. We immediately removed them."

Joshua Benton of Harvard's Nieman Journalism Lab took to Twitter to point out that you could search for and find some of the same target categories in Google AdWords, with "How to burn jews" and "Jew hater" being the best bets — "History of why jews ruin the world" had a "lower search volume, according to the system.

Google further suggested a number of other similar search terms to try such as "burning jews" and "do jews hate christians."

TechCrunch's Devin Coldewey says that perhaps Google should be more quickly forgiven since "Google’s is a more senseless association of queries it’s had — and it has less leeway to remove things, since it can’t very well not allow people to search for ethnic slurs or the like." Whereas with Facebook, those target categories came up and appear "quasi-approved (i.e. hasn’t been flagged)" and culled from existing "profile data it thinks fits what you’re looking for."

All this comes on the heels of news this week that Facebook had taken in about $100,000 in advertising money from shadowy Russian sources that posted and promoted fake news stories intent on swaying our November election.

This story is to be continued as we learn all the other deplorable sources from which Facebook has profited without knowing, or at least acknowledging it.

Update: And on Friday, The Daily Beast took a similar look into how Twitter allows advertisers to target users, and they found that an advertiser could choose to market to "26.3 million users interested in the derogatory term “wetback,” 18.6 million accounts that are likely to engage with the word “Nazi,” and 14.5 million users who might be drawn to "n**ger."

A spokesperson with the Ku Klux Klan has confirmed that the fliers promoting their organization and criticizing the Black Lives Matter movement found in the Haight earlier this week were not (as some suggested) a hoax, and did actually come from active members of the white supremacist group.

As previously reported, Haight residents found the fliers, which read in part that "Black Lives Matter Black Panthers are telling followers to kill white people and police officers in the name of justice for the killing of negro’s by policemen in the line of duty" on their doorsteps Tuesday.

Though at least one local news outlet sneered that the "widely blogged about" fliers were a likely hoax, that outlet was sadly incorrect: As reported today by the Chron, a KKK official confirmed that the fliers came from his organization, and were indeed being distributed in SF and across the country.

Speaking with the Chron, West Coast grand dragon Will Quigg confirmed the fliers' veracity, and said that "our organization is actively recruiting in all of California and all of the United States.”

“We’re getting a lot more calls, especially in the last few months with what Obama’s doing, what Hillary’s doing and especially Black Lives Matter calling for war and saying they’re trying to kill all whites.”

According to San Francisco Police Department Captain John Sanford, whose Park Station covers the neighborhood in which the fliers were distributed, "we have not received any complaints whatsoever, and we haven't even seen the flyers," Hoodline reports. As the distribution of fliers like these, repugnant as they might be to most, is the distributors' First Amendment right, Sanford says that "If someone decides that they want to recruit for the KKK, they have the right to do that."

However, "if this group is coming together and talking about commuting a crime or doing something illegal, then that is something we would be concerned about."

But there's no need for concern, Quigg asserts, saying that this is the "new" Klan (presumably opposed to the "old" Klan that, like, murdered black people for fun I guess?) and that they "do not go knocking on people’s doors. We don’t do that type of recruitment because we don’t want to make any people feel uneasy or scared because they do not understand we are a new Klan."

“We are a white, Christian, nonviolent civil rights organization," Quigg claims, but I suspect that that will matter little to folks like "The Loyal White Lady Ally of the Haight," who reportedly posted counter-fliers in the area the hate group's work earlier appeared.

According to Broke Ass Stuart, the counter-poster "will beat your sorry ass if I catch you in my neighborhood distributing hate flyers." A sentiment which, clearly, falls under Sanford's definition of something police "would be concerned about."

“How dare you come to the Haight and attempt to recruit out residents. We stand for peace and justice," the ass-beating threatener writes on her flier, "and have since the 60s while you were lynching people of color."

Of course, it's not like San Francisco was KKK-free before Tuesday — as you might recall, a Marina District Klansman was injured in an Anaheim brawl in March. In fact, the white supremacists has been active in SF as long ago as 1867, when members of the hate group reportedly drove Chinese contract workers from their jobs on the Potrero Street railway.

In the present day, Sanford says that so far, the only place the fliers have been reported is the Haight, so it appears that the KKK's current recruitment effort is so far less "active" in SF that Quigg suggests. Sanford also says that he'd love to get a look at one of the fliers for himself, and asks that anyone who receives one give Park Station a call at 415-553-0123.

Muni Stations Reportedly Defaced With Burning Pride Flag Photos

If the men in question loved pleasure that much they wouldn't be riding Muni.

SF News

fliers

hate

lgbt

muni

Eve Batey

Castro-area Muni riders were hit with a disturbing message Monday morning, when they were confronted with fliers depicting a burning Pride flag as they passed through two area stations.

According to SFist tipster "k$tarr Esquire," the fliers you see above were pasted up "overnight" at the Castro and Church Muni stations. Though you can see that some effort was made to remove them, they remained largely in place when this photo was taken at 7:59 Monday morning.

"k$tarr Esquire" notes both the burning Pride flag imagery as well as "a bunch of anti-LGBT messaging" in the fliers' text.

Though it's hard to make out the majority of the text on what's left of the flier on the right, the one on the left appears to reference the Bible verse 2 Timothy 3:1-7, which reads:

But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; Avoid such men as these. For among them are those who enter into households and captivate weak women weighed down with sins, led on by various impulses, always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Call me a weak woman if you will, but that sounds like my kind of man, right there.

A+E Networks has decided to put Phil Robertson on indefinite filming hiatus from his insanely popular reality show after his lame-duck remarks about LGBT folks hit newsstands and web browsers today.

In a statement released to Variety late Wednesday, A+E Networks (which owns the A&E channel) wrote:

"We are extremely disappointed to have read Phil Robertson’s comments in GQ, which are based on his own personal beliefs and are not reflected in the series Duck Dynasty. His personal views in no way reflect those of A+E Networks, who have always been strong supporters and champions of the LGBT community.”

Earlier today, A&E gave Robertson a little extra rope to trap himself with when they allowed their 14-million-viewer star to respond to critics, saying: "I myself am a product of the '60s; I centered my life around sex, drugs and rock and roll until I hit rock bottom and accepted Jesus as my Savior. My mission today is to go forth and tell people about why I follow Christ and also what the bible teaches, and part of that teaching is that women and men are meant to be together. However, I would never treat anyone with disrespect just because they are different from me. We are all created by the Almighty and like Him, I love all of humanity. We would all be better off if we loved God and loved each other.”

Although the duck commander has been placed into time out, it is unclear at the moment whether the show itself will come to a halt or if filming will continue with the rest of his family, who earlier admitted they don't stray too far from the flock.

Phil Robertson, the daddy duck to the camo-clad Robertson clan featured on A&E's reality blockbuster Duck Dynasty, is quacking up a storm in the latest issue of GQ. In a profile by the magazine's Drew Margary, the 67-year-old Robertson let fly a whole flock of homophobic comments about homosexuals, and what he feels is their sinful lifestyle.

Robertson, who hails from the northwest corner of Louisiana "where Cajun redneck culture and Ozark redneck culture intersect," regularly captivates 14 million viewers on his family's reality show on A&E. But unlike the majority of Americans, he's not down with LGBT. As he told GQ:

"It seems like, to me, a vagina—as a man—would be more desirable than a man’s anus. That’s just me. I’m just thinking: There’s more there! She’s got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I’m saying? But hey, sin: It’s not logical, my man. It’s just not logical."

Then, when asked what, in his mind, was considered sinful, Robertson elaborated:

"Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men,” he says. Then he paraphrases Corinthians: “Don’t be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers—they won’t inherit the kingdom of God. Don’t deceive yourself. It’s not right.”

Robertson, who once had to flee the state of Arkansas because he assaulted a bar owner and his wife, says he never bothered repenting for his own sin, saying, "I didn’t dredge anything back up. I just put it behind me.” His son and reality TV co-star Jep even suggested the family tends to fall in line behind their father. GQ quoted Jep saying, "We’re not quite as outspoken as my dad, but I’m definitely in line. If somebody asks, I tell ’em what the Bible says.”

With the backlash already brewing, the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation condemned the reality TV stars toxic philosophy. In a statement, GLAAD wrote that the statement is "far outside of the mainstream understanding of LGBT people." Even in Louisiana, which passed a constitutional amendment banning marriage equality, a majority of the population believes there should be some kind of recognition. GLAAD goes on:

"Phil and his family claim to be Christian, but Phil's lies about an entire community fly in the face of what true Christians believe," said GLAAD spokesperson Wilson Cruz. "He clearly knows nothing about gay people or the majority of Louisianans - and Americans - who support legal recognition for loving and committed gay and lesbian couples. Phil's decision to push vile and extreme stereotypes is a stain on A&E and his sponsors who now need to reexamine their ties to someone with such public disdain for LGBT people and families."

A&E, for their part, fired off another statement from Robertson on Wednesday, which did little in the way of making an apology. Robertson writes: "I myself am a product of the '60s; I centered my life around sex, drugs and rock and roll until I hit rock bottom and accepted Jesus as my Savior.

Update: Robertson has been placed on indefinite hiatus by the network.

The man behind Prop. 8 may have suffered a setback when his anti-gay marriage campaign was thwarted earlier this year, but Frank Shubert isn't letting that get him down. He's now ramping up the bullshit machine for another go, this time taking aim at the rights of transgender teens.

The Daily Beast reports that Schubert has signed on to lead a campaign backed by the National Organization for Marriage. The goal? To repeal California's new law reinforcing existing anti-discrimination laws. The law allows transgender public school students to elect which bathroom to use and which sports teams to play for.

Here's his intro to a piece called "There is Only Gender" for the conservative website Red State:

"You might look at my Caucasian features and wonder why I am claiming to be an African American. I may not be a natural descendent of African American lineage, but I feel black and have thus decided to identify as African American."

You can guess where that one is headed. The analogy is "no more ridiculous than the latest craze from the left concerning something they call 'gender identity.'" Trend alert! In the piece, he urges that we "accept the truth of reality in the natural order. We accept the natural meanings of gender and gender differences, and reject attempts to redefine them with amorphous perceptions and feelings about 'identity.'"

NOM and Schubert are looking to gather 507,760 signatures opposing the law, the necessary number to qualify for a referendum by the November 8 deadline. Although Schubert is one of the few who believe it's actually possible, the action is at the very least a sinister attention-seeking ploy. And with trans kids in the crosshairs, this one could get ugly.

After allowing troublesome Facebook fan pages like "Violently Raping Your Friend Just for Laughs" and "Kicking your Girlfriend in the Fanny because she won’t make you a Sandwich" linger on their social network for way too long, Facebook finally admitted yesterday that their systems for identifying and removing hate speech failed to effectively spot the controversial language.

In a blog post, Marne Levine, VP of Global Public Policy for the social networking giant wrote:

We’ve built industry leading technical and human systems to encourage people using Facebook to report violations of our terms and developed sophisticated tools to help our teams evaluate the reports we receive and make or escalate the difficult decisions about whether reported content is controversial, harmful or constitutes hate speech. [...]

In recent days, it has become clear that our systems to identify and remove hate speech have failed to work as effectively as we would like, particularly around issues of gender-based hate. In some cases, content is not being removed as quickly as we want.

The offending pages, along with many others, were called into question by a coalition of activists from Women, Action and The Media and The Everyday Sexism Project in an open letter asking the site to ban gender-based hate on the site. Although the pages lingered, the activist groups eventually hit Facebook right where it hurts: in the advertising dollars. Through over 5,000 emails and 60,000 tweets, WAM! and the Everyday Sexism Project was able to convince advertisers like Nissan and a dozen others to pull their ads until Facebook could ensure that their ads wouldn't be implicitly endorsing hate speech.

Other national advertisers like Zappos, American Express and Dove — whose "real beauty" campaign has come under fire for different reasons — didn't go as far as to pull their ads completely, but phoned in their responses by issuing Facebook updates saying they did not condone violence against women.

Moving forward, Facebook says they've taken a few steps to better identify and remove gender-based hate speech by reviewing their guidelines, providing more training for the humans who evaluate harmful content, increase accountability for the content creators and facilitate communication with groups working in this area.

On Friday, officials of the Boy Scouts of America proposed a resolution that would allow openly-gay youth members of the organization with the statement that “no youth may be denied membership in the Boy Scouts of America on the basis of sexual orientation or preference alone.” The resolution would continue to bar gay scout leaders, whose inclusion the BSA estimated could cause defections costing the organization 100,000 to 350,000 members.

The Boy Scouts have been considering a possible change of policy that would lift the ban on openly gay Scouts and Scout leaders, but the organization had delayed a decision on the issue until May, citing "the complexity of this issue". Now, the organization has announced that the new proposal permitting openly gay youth members will be submitted to the 1,400 voting members of its National Council at a meeting in late May.

The resolution comes after the BSA sent out a comprehensive survey to its million members. ABC News reports that respondents supported the BSA's current policy of excluding gays by a margin of 61 percent to 34 percent, with younger parents and teens opposing the policy. But the BSA states that "while perspectives and opinions vary significantly, parents, adults in the Scouting community and teens alike tend to agree that youth should not be denied the benefits of Scouting."

New ads adorning ten of the city's buses are causing a stir for their anti-Islamic rhetoric and sparking a hate speech vs. free speech debate that's got Muni parked in the crossfire.

The ads feature quotes from Osama bin Laden, Hamas TV and Times Square jihad car bomber Faisal Shahzad and others, followed by the tagline "That's his Jihad. What's yours?". "Killing Jews is worship that draws us closer to Allah" one reads, while another quotes Osama bin Laden: "The first thing we are calling you to is Islam." The ads are a rebuttal to visually similar ads sponsored by the Council on American Islamic Relations that ran on Muni buses earlier this year. That campaign was aimed at reclaiming the word "jihad" from the violence and terrorism that many people associate it with.

D.A. George Gascon held a press conference denouncing the new ads as hate speech, even quoting Edmund Burke, "The only thing necessary for evil to prevail is for good people to look the other way and do nothing."

You may remember the group behind the ads, American Freedom Defense Initiative, from last summer's similar anti-Jihad ads. They've issued a statement by AFDI Executive Director Pamela Geller denouncing backlash over the ads:

"Americans need to understand the threat they're facing. That is the point of our ads. The slaughter of Christians in Nigeria, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Malaysia, Algeria et al -- that doesn't warrant a statement, let alone a press conference from San Francisco authorities, but my ads do. Think about that. Hundreds of thousands dead, but it would be blasphemy to talk about. The slaughter in the cause of jihad is OK, but my talking about it is the problem."

Muni spokesman Paul Rose told CBS that the agency will be giving the $5,000 revenue from the ads to the Humans Rights Commission "to help support and encourage tolerance."

After a prudish local resident spoke out to the city council, decrying a rooftop party sponsored by Justin Timberlake's tequila company and promoted with provocative photos of some promised female attendees, free local newspaper the Carmel Pine Cone reported the complaints with the regrettable page slug: "See SLUTS page 23A."

The Carmelian neighbor Carolyn Hardy emailed city administrators before the event took place last week with curmudgeonly fist-shaking, which was reprinted [pdf link] to hilarious effect by the Carmel Pine Cone:

“Risking accusations of being prudish, I really find this appalling for our village community. Is this the character we want for Carmel in trying to bring vitality to downtown?” [Hardy] asked. “I don’t think so. I think you need to steer this ship rather than allowing [party co-organizer] Rich Pepe to do it. He needs his chain yanked.” [...]

“You might mistake them for sluts and whores in their black thigh-high boots, little black dresses abundantly overflowing with chest and hiked up to their *bleep* which also reveal thigh tattoos,” she wrote. “Let’s see, the only thing missing so far from this Carmel event? The Johns.”

Ms. Hardy went on to chastise the one-time candidate for Mayor of Carmel by suggesting he sponsor a "hooker's night out wine walk" to attract the men who were in town for the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am golf tournament last weekend. Adding to the media mess, the local news went ahead and called out the Pine Cone for slapping the "sluts" label on their front page. In response, the PR firm responsible for the flyers — the also regrettably named Racey Promotions — is filing a lawsuit against the paper, claiming the Pine Cone used the image without their consent. Making matters worse, two of the models in the photo were only 17 and 18 years old (they apparently didn't attend the 21+ event) and Racey Promotions now says they are at risk of cyber bullying. In his newspaper's defense, publisher Paul Miller told the NY Daily News, "The fact that some girls are shown in skimpy clothing - well that is a product of the girls posing and the clothes they wore …. It has practically nothing to do with us."

San Franciso Mayor Pak Man came out against notorious anti-gay fast food chain Chick-fil-A on Thursday afternoon via Twitter. And good for him. The reportedly delicious fried chicken sandwich purveyors' unfortunate stance on same-sex marriage has sparked an equally unfortunate National Gay Bashing Day at Chick-fil-A, set to implode this Wednesday, organized by Governor Mike Huckabee and GOP booger Rick Santorum. Lee says:

Very disappointed #ChickFilA doesn't share San Francisco's values & strong commitment to equality for everyone.
— Edwin Lee (@mayoredlee) July 26, 2012

Is this a nice thing for Mayor Lee to say? Of course. He's a decent man, all things considered. Is it a hallow gesture? As Gawker breathlessly points out, yes, it is. Lee follows on the heels of other city mayors, like Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino, who have also publicly condemned the fast-food corporation and warned them to get off their cities' lawns.

He later tweeted that San Francisco does not even have a Chick-fil-A within its chrome-finish 7x7-mile walls, then strongly recommends "that they not try to come any closer." Lee removes his earrings:

Closest #ChickFilA to San Francisco is 40 miles away & I strongly recommend that they not try to come any closer.
— Edwin Lee (@mayoredlee) July 26, 2012

Obviously, he shouldn't worry. We can't even open a Wendy's in this town much less some get-er-dun, obesity-spreading chicken hawker. Santa Rosa, however, stands on the precipice of getting their first Chick-fil-A, which was approved in May, but will come under strong protest by LGBT and community leaders if it comes to fruition. Press Democrat reports:

Neighborhood groups and members of the gay community vowed protests and boycotts of the future Mendocino Avenue restaurant in the wake of President Dan Cathy’s quip that the company was 'guilty as charged" in being against gay marriage and supportive of 'the biblical definition of the family unit."

Harris was speaking in support for North Carolina's Amendment One, the state's looming ban on gay marriage and civil union. Care of Good As You, who first reported the story, the transcript of the infamous sermon reads as follows:

"So your little son starts to act a little girlish when he is four years old and instead of squashing that like a cockroach and saying, “Man up, son, get that dress off you and get outside and dig a ditch, because that is what boys do,” you get out the camera and you start taking pictures of Johnny acting like a female and then you upload it to YouTube and everybody laughs about it and the next thing you know, this dude, this kid is acting out childhood fantasies that should have been squashed.

Can I make it any clearer? Dads, the second you see your son dropping the limp wrist, you walk over there and crack that wrist. Man up. Give him a good punch. Ok? You are not going to act like that. You were made by God to be a male and you are going to be a male. And when your daughter starts acting to Butch you reign her in. And you say, “Oh, no, sweetheart. You can play sports. Play them to the glory of God. But sometimes you are going to act like a girl and walk like a girl and talk like a girl and smell like a girl and that means you are going to be beautiful. You are going to be attractive. You are going to dress yourself up.”

You say, “Can I take charge like that as a parent?”

Yeah, you can. You are authorized. I just gave you a special dispensation this morning to do that."

For his part, Harris later said it was all in good fun. "If I had to say it again, I would say it differently, no doubt," Harris told the Fayette Observer. "Those weren't planned words, but what I do stand by is that the word of God makes it clear that effeminate behavior is ungodly. I'm not going to compromise on that." He also sadfaced on Twitter, "Even my apology is being judged by those who are supposed to be the most tolerant as insincere. At this point nothing seems sufficient."

Not true, Pastor Harris! Donating and/or volunteering to The Trevor Project (the leading national
organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay,
bisexual, transgender, and questioning youth) would border on sufficient.

Via the church's website, Harris (born in the very liberal town of Newton, Massachusetts) lists his hobbies as reading, cycling, physical fitness, restaurants (Outback Steakhouse and Cracker Barrel are a few of his gastronomic favorites), snow skiing, NCCSA sports, and smiting homosexuals. Well, we made up that last part — we can only assume it would be one of his favorite activities — but it's nice to see that he keeps his body so tight and fit while spewing such unbridled hatred.

North Carolina is set to vote on the gay-marriage ban on May 8th.

One Million Moms, which is a coalition of (we assume) at least one million mothers, has found the latest threat to the angelic youth of America: the Urban Outfitters catalog. Specificially, the controversial, headline-sparking girl-on-girl makeout session photographed for page two of the the debatably fashionable retail outlet's Spring lookbook. Writing in an exciting, exclamation-laden blog post titled "Trash Your Teen's New Urban Outfitters Catalog Today!", the moms lay out their call to action:

WARNING! The April 2012 catalog from Urban Outfitters has begun arriving in home mailboxes the last couple of days. On page two of this catalog is a picture of two women kissing in a face holding embrace! The ad and catalog are clearly geared toward teenagers.

Ignoring for a moment that many of us wouldn't have thought twice to look at an Urban Outfitters catalog, had One Million Moms not brought this sultry item to our attention — We might also point out that the catalog is geared towards people who enjoy novelty books, USB-equipped record players, and pre-cut jorts, but no one seems to be concerned about those items which some of us clearly find offensive.

The Moms continue:

Before your child has a chance to read the newest Urban Outfitters catalog call to unsubscribe from their mailing list at 1-800-282-2200, and then throw it away. When you call be sure to let them know why you are unsubscribing. Tell them you will also no longer shop at their stores if you hear this type of advertising continues. The content is offensive and inappropriate for a teen who is the company's target customer.

OMM, for the record, is the same group that suggested we boycott Glee by leaning on the show's sponsors at Olive Garden and Chili's. And they might even have a thing or two in common with the hipster supply company — Urban Outfitters' CEO Richard Hayne, who also owns Free People, Anthropologie and one terrible combover, is a noted supporter of Rick Santorum's failed presidential campaign.

Anyhow, for now, millions of American teens will have to ask their cool, older friends to drive them to the mall to buy clothes they will later regret. Just like they always have.
