This is our last chance to make the Harvey Milk Day bill law. Now that the Assembly has approved Mark Leno's bill to make Harvey Milk Day a state holiday, it will be on the Governor’s desk by next week. The far (and often effective) right, however, wants you to know that homosexuals indoctrinate children, and that Milk was a raging pedophile -- both of which are lies.

While the far left tends to combat these kinds of attacks with, benign seminars, biting satires, or arguing with each other, instead watch this Senate testimony from Milk screenwriter Dustin Lance Black. Then, sign the petition to Governor Schwarzenegger, if you'd like; forward the video to those who you think might enjoy it; and call Arnold right now at 916-445-2841.

OK, folks, time to man up. Or woman up. Just get up, and listen. Noted hate group Catholic Exchange, a site that promotes biggorty and homophobia under a simulacrum of God, is asking its followers to demand Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to veto Senator (and future Mayor of San Francisco?) Mark Leno's "Harvey Milk Day" bill. They've placed a jarring and "urgent" message on their site asking readers to call the Governor to stop the bill. Worse yet, the egregiously titled Christian News Wire, according to Equality California, "carried a story calling Harvey a notorious sexual predator, a public liar, a terrible model for kids and demanded the Governor veto the bill." Look, you have to understand one thing about these people, these kind of people: they have such an intense loathing for gays that they can't even stand to have to acknowledge that gays even exist, or are capable of accomplishing anything. If they succeed in getting the bill vetoed, things will, inarguably, get worse. Much worse.

Extremist hate groups like Concerned Women for America, Capitol Resource Institute, and the Campaign for Children and Families (groups that should, let's face it, be stopped by any means necessary) "are stopping at nothing to mobilize their members to call, email, fax and tweet their opposition to Senator Mark Leno’s bill." Obama Honors Harvey Milk With Presidential Medal of Freedom, Kind Words

Later this evening, President Obama, who has been soft on gay issues thus far during his administration, awarded Harvey Milk a posthumous Presidential Medal of Freedom. Sapphic tennis player Billie Jean King, Sen. Edward Kennedy, thespian Sidney Poitier, Judge Sandra Day O'Connor, and smart guy Stephen Hawking are also among tonight's honorees.

Before the awards, Obama spoke fondly about Milk's legacy. "His name was Harvey Milk, and he was here to recruit us, all of us to join a movement and change a nation," he begins.

Congratulations, Harvey. (Sorry it's 30+ years late.)

Oh, and towering above lesser recipients is, of course, Chita Rivera who will also score a well-deserved Presidential Medal of Freedom.
