Weed smoking areas or tents at permitted events? Those are some of the items on the to-do list created by San Francisco’s Cannabis Legalization Task Force, the Chronicle reports, and that group's mandate just got real with the passage of Prop 64.

The task force, which was selected last December, has been mulling the likely possibility of legalization since then, and these are their conclusions so far. The city should pass a one percent excise tax on marijuana sales, and in general it should move swiftly. “We’re saying, ‘This is what we think you need to do first, second and third, and this is how you need to do it,’” task force Chairman Terrance Alan, who also chairs the SF Late Night Coalition, told the Chron.

The task force would also like to see fast permitting for recreational pot shops, however, those won't be arrive until legal recreational sales kick in after January 1, 2018, according to the language of the successful proposition. Further, the task force wants to work with schools to address how marijuana use is taught and understood — and sometimes punished.

Mayor Lee, naturally, may have ideas of his own. "I want our city to work immediately to pass the best laws and regulations we can,” the Chronicle quotes him. And with real estate so tight in San Francisco, Lee doesn't want to see big buildings become grow ops, encouraging the city to bar growers from “entering existing industrial buildings until the full impact of this emerging industry is better understood.” That's a front on which the pot task force agrees. San Francisco is likelier to become a hub for testing, marijuana technologies, and other businesses, rather than larger scale grows or farms.

As there are many in San Francisco with past marijuana crime convictions, Lee indicated that Supervisor Malia Cohen was "interested in crafting legislation to address the social justice component of decriminalization,” perhaps a sign that the city would make efforts like those in Oakland, which include setting aside pot business licenses for those who have been jailed or arrested for marijuana crimes. But Oakland's measures, it should be said, are hitting some bumps and are being criticized by industry leaders. At least we in SF aren't moving in the direction of San Jose: That city preempted recreational pot legalization entirely by banning legal sales altogether ahead of the state vote.

Finding housing in San Francisco is difficult. Finding housing that bears the Craigslist designation "420 Friendly" is not.

However, the Weekly writes that you could absolutely be evicted for smoking weed in your apartment, as it stands now, and that more anti-doper legislation is on the way.

Most current lease agreements have something in them banning activity forbidden by law, the Weekly points out, and of the many ways to be evicted, breaking the terms of your lease is a very good one. It's happened, the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML) tells the Weekly, and although the Rent Board couldn't recall any instances, habitual marijuana use may impair your memory.

Where was I? Currently, assembly member Jim Wood, a Democrat from Healdsburg who helped write last year's Medical Marijuana Regulation and Safety Act, wants to grant landlords the right to specifically ban pot smoking on their property. AB 2300, as the bill is known, unanimously cleared a committee recently, and according to the Weekly, "it's not likely to see much opposition." The bill would also, in its words, disallow "the smoking of medical marijuana where smoking is prohibited by a landlord, as specified."

The timing here is a bit odd, as California gets ready to probably legalize pot in November. But that's not a given, and perhaps this would pave the way for landlords who don't want recreational smokers, of which there could be a growing number, stinking up their places with that dank herb.

As SFGate's Homeguides section saw matters with regard to medicinal pot use few years ago, "the rights of medical marijuana smokers in California rental properties is not entirely clear because... there have been no legal cases that attempt to interpret the law regarding medical marijuana as a medical accessory to a disability." The state of affairs would seem to be a bit, well, hazy.

While they're losing their current lease on the corner of Church Street, The Apothecarium has been granted the right to relocate by the SF planning commission, a fact we're told by the Bay Area Reporter. The move follows on plans laid out in September.

“They are nothing but a model business in the neighborhood,” Andrea Aiello, the Castro/Upper Market Street Community Benefit District Executive Director, said in support of the Apothecarium. One aspect of the business' good neighborliness? The Apothecarium has given more than $300,000 to local groups in the past five years.

Within the marijuana community, the business is also well respected: On the Yelp of weed websitem Weedmaps, the spot scores 4 stars. Reviewers remarked that they "loved the open atmosphere" and that "just for the bud quality" it " kills it."

The new home for the dispensary, the former Mecca/Shanghai space, is much larger: An expansion of 1,000 square feet to 5,000 square feet. Inside, a “fairly significant” remodel is expected, complete with a large education area. The space has been unoccupied since January, 2013, according to SF Gay History's entry on the address. After San Francisco Zoning Administrator Scott F. Sanchez ruled the space could be used for a medical marijuana dispensary, an investment group snatched it up with plans to rent it. There, the Apothecarium has signed a 10-year-lease.

At the previous Apothecarium location, zoning is still in place for a dispensary, so perhaps the block will see a bit of competition. Both are located near Whole Foods, which has drawn plenty of foot traffic to the area.

It should come as no surprise to regular readers of SFist that we are very envious of its inhabitants, people who are ten times better than you.

That said, we're a bit disappointed today. And so is he. Why? Because at the top of the driveway leading to the main entrance of One Rincon Hill sits this pathetic patch of circular turf. This is its welcoming? A few blades of grass? We were hoping for some sort of gargantuan fountain or tacky steel and glass sculpture. Alas.

Nevertheless, we still love you 1RH. It's your little flaws that make you so very perfect.
On Oct. 18, Teton County sheriff's Deputy Joseph Gutierrez arrested Wells as she was driving home from a surprise birthday party that was held for her. According to the sheriff's office report, Gutierrez pulled Wells over after noticing her swerve and repeatedly speed up and slow down. When Gutierrez asked about a marijuana smell, Wells said she'd just given a ride to three hitchhikers and had dropped them off when they began smoking something. Gutierrez found half-smoked joints and two small cases used to store marijuana.

Sad, right? Who knew Idaho was so strict when it came to pot infractions, which was where Wells was pinched. And why do we bring this up, you ask? Because this is the cutest mugshot in the history of petty crime. We can only hope that ours comes out looking this precious.
