Turns out a person walking on the highway was hit by several cars early in the morning. And on Wednesday night, an AC Transit bus was in a seven-car pileup.

Yipes, baby mama drama -- two men got in a fight in the parking lot of a Fremont day care center when both of them came by to pick up the same child. The biological father showed up at the day care center, saw his ex-girlfriend with her new boyfriend, The father stormed up and sucker punched the boyfriend through the window, at which point the boyfriend then got out of the car and gave the father a bloody nose. The authorities came and arrested the father for violating the terms of the restraining order the mother had gotten against him, and arrested the new boyfriend on an unrelated warrant. The child in question didn't witness any of the fighting.

And you know famous local beat guy Lawrence Ferlinghetti? His art's been taken down from a corporate lobby in the Bank of America building because some of the corporate clients in the building complained about the nudes in the painting. What makes the story weirder is that the paintings are all kind of abstract. Ferlinghetti's gallery rep says, "I suppose if you look very carefully you might see a breast. But they are very expressionistic." (We're borrowing one of the Ferlinghetti pictures from the Merc News's gallery so you can decide on your own.)

SFist Blotter

101, the highway of doom! There was a drunk driving death near Willow Road Wednesday morning, along with all those random shootings the day before. The cops, for what it's worth, say none of those random shootings are connected -- but still: we'll take 280 this week, thanks.

A student at Merritt College in Oakland was attacked and acid was thrown in her face in a college parking lot a few weeks ago. The police have only recently released sketches of her assailants, and are asking for help identifying them.

And .... three murders on Wednesday in San Francisco -- one in the Western Addition, one in the Loin, and one in Viz Valley. No arrests made as of yet, and the count's up to 89 murders for 2007.

A police officer in Oakland shot a man to death yesterday afternoon at 54th and MLK, where a number of shootings have occurred recently. The officer confronted the man for reasons that they declined to specify to the media, and a fight broke out. After the officer's attempts to taser the suspect didn't work, the suspect reached into his waistband, at which point the officer shot him. The suspect was later found to have a loaded handgun in his possession.

And hey! Remember all those women pretending to live at Stanford when they didn't really? Well, Azia Kim (the girl who pretended to be a freshman and got away with it for almost a whole school year, by sneaking into dorms through open windows and just pretending she always lost her ID card) still hasn't heard from the Santa Clara DA's office, despite Stanford's saying they were going to press charges for trespass. Santa Clara says they're still waiting on paperwork from the Stanford PD. Elizabeth Okasaki, on the other hand, the other squatter who had been living in a Stanford physics building for four years, moved to UCLA and their music library, pretending to be a grad student in the "philosophy of music." UCLA managed to evict her after only four months, in part due to a suspicious administrator who had heard about Okasaki's time at Stanford.

He was shot clutching a car stereo he'd just stolen. A suspect has been arrested in the case, who has a long rap sheet of his own, but the cops won't say if the suspect's car was the one that had been burgled.

And hey -- so we were just getting out of dinner and drinks with Chron webmistress Eve Batey and SFist Rain on Wednesday when not one, not two, not three, but cop cars went speeding by us at 16th and Valencia, nearly hitting a bunch of people trying to make left turns onto either 16th or Valencia (don't cut off the cop cars, people!) before screeching to a halt in the middle of the block near 15th. We haven't been able to find anything about it online, so we figured we'd ask: anyone know what the heck was going on?

And your obligatory wacky item: that naked carpenter in Oakland was acquitted of public indecency charges -- while they agreed it was a little weird that he was doing construction work in the nude, the judge decided he wasn't doing anything unseemly besides just being naked at the time. The carpenter, through his lawyer, says he's probably going to start wearing clothes now, just to avoid the bother of having to go to court again. (We posted on this as a Blotter item when the guy was originally arrested in Oct. 2005, but cannot for the life of us find the article now! Sorry.)

Two gay men were walking down 19th Street when three young Hispanic men got out of a car following them. One of the young men asked them for a cigarette, and then stabbed both men repeatedly. The men managed to make it to 18th Street before one of them collapsed and the other one managed to get help. The less-injured victim, an art director for the Chron, was back at work within three weeks, but the other victim was in an induced coma for almost a month to recover from the stab wounds in his kidney. The police arrested someone in the case last week, but released him for lack of evidence. It's unclear whether the men were targeted for their sexual orientation or whether the assailants were in a gang.

And the Examiner's got coverage of a rape trial involving Justin Desmangles, who hangs with the city's literary crowd. Desmangles organized readings at sites like City Lights, and interviewed J.T. Leroy/Laura Albert on his radio show. Desmangles claims he had consensual sex with the accuser and that he'd only playfully choked her with a cord during sex, at her request. Non-mayoral candidate Matt Gonzalez has testified as a character witness in favor of Desmangles, as has city poet laureate Jack Hirschman and state poet laureate (we have a state poet laureate?) Albert Young.

SFist Blotter

From the SFist Tips line: yet another daytime shooting yesterday, this time at 23rd ...

SF News

berkeley

Cal

CBS

crime

FridayBlotter

Native American

News+Sports

police

post office

protest

running

San Rafael

SFist Tips

sfpd

shooting

South Van Ness

the police

traffic

uc

uc berkeley

university

Van Ness

rita

Those activists living in the trees at UC Berkeley admitted that okay, maaaaaaybe they cut off the tops of the trees they were complaining about the university damaging. Well, the police have investigated and determined that the truck took a turn too fast -- but that the truck was only going 7 mph at the time. Goat lovers are saying the police should have freed them all to save the other 200, but the police note that it would have been a traffic nightmare to have a bunch of panicked goats running around a major intersection.

Does anyone know what happened at 16th and South Van Ness Wednesday night? We walked by there around 9 p.m. and there were like eight cop cars, an ambulance, and two fire trucks at the gas station, with lights flashing and sirens going. We can't find any reports about it online but now we're totally curious.

And this is sort of out of our coverage area, but you know we have a morbid fascination with animal hoarders. A woman near Scotts Valley was found with 83 cats, 3 dogs, and 2 iguanas -- and no litter boxes. Animal care and control officers reported cat feces piled up to four feet high in the small three-bedroom house, you could smell the house down the street, and one officer said he just threw away all his clothes after cleaning the place out (good move). They caught 33 of the cats, have set humane traps to catch the remaining 50, and the woman is still living in the house. She told the officers that she'd gotten all the cats from her work with local rescue groups, and all of them were spayed or neutered. Wow -- it's one thing to get to 83 cats by getting two and not spaying or neutering them, but it is entirely another to go out and affirmatively 83 cats.

And yeah, you may have heard -- it turns out they were actual bombs.

A student at Berkeley High and her date were arrested for bringing a gun to the senior prom. The date said he needed the gun for protection because of an ongoing turf war between South Berkeley and North Oakland, and when he saw people checking bags at the door, he passed the gun to the student, who tried to hide the gun in her purse.

That cop who allegedly beat up (among many other people) cheesecake model and Willie Brown associate Esther Hwang and also Barry Bonds's personal trainer has been reassigned to desk duty. Is he going to beat up the copier next? Plus -- we'll take this excuse to give you a chance to listen to Esther Hwang's press conference about how the cop ruined her "pretty dress" again!!!
