If you're like us you spend every Friday afternoon glued to DJ Ted Leibowitz and the Bagel Radio Friday Live Show. If you aren't like us, you should be - it's the best rock radio show around. Ted has been a huge part of the indie rock world here in San Francisco for quite some time, he's a friend of SFist, and his wonderful Web radio show has been a huge boost to any number of local up-and-coming acts (we're thinking right now of Birdmonster and the Heavenly States, but the list could go on for quite some time). Ted is the DJ that we wish was on commercial radio - the guy who not only knows everything about music, but has a deep and abiding love for San Francisco music. Heck, he even got married at the Great American Music Hall.

There are no less than three fantastic music festivals all taking place over the weekend of September 14-16. What gives? And how do we choose? Since we live in the bay area, perhaps our decision has been made for us: we're heading to the inaugural Treasure Island Music Festival presented by the fine folks at Noise Pop and Another Planet. The two day festival features 14 bands each day on two stages with mostly hip hop and electronica on Saturday (Theivery Corporation, DJ Shadow & Cut Chemist, M.I.A.) and a great lineup of indie rock on Sunday (Modest Mouse, Built To Spill, Clap Your Hands). And it all takes place on Treasure Island, that scrap of land you've seen a thousand times but likely have never set foot on. Getting there is sure to be an adventure! -- Litz Plummer, the Opera Lady: Wow. This should be an interesting combo: Coming to the Eagle this evening is the opera lady. You know? The one who sings on Maiden Lane, near the Hermes store. (Where you buy all of your blue separates, just like us?) She's part of tonight's "Thursday Night Live" along with All My Pretty Ones and Carletta Sue Kay. 10 p.m., the Eagle Tavern, 12th St. & Harrison; $5.

Huge congratulations to our friend DJ Ted from BAGeL Radio who landed in the New York Times this week! A photo of BAGeL Radio HQ is featured in the story called "Big Radio Makes a Grab for Internet Listeners", along with a quote from Ted and mentions of bay area-based Soma FM, Live365 and Pandora. Ted's fighting the good fight to save internet radio from being crushed by soaring broadcasting fees. He's got full details on how to help the cause on his blog, along with an announcement of a benefit show on July 1st at Bottom of the Hill. We'll keep you posted with details on the show as it approaches.

We missed SXSW last week, but some of our friends were down there covering the mayhem and brought back some great photos. Tonight we're wishing a great big Happy 4th Birthday to DJ Ted and his baby BAGeL Radio. The party is at Bottom of the Hill with performances by Birdmonster, Division Day and Two Seconds, and yes there will be cupcakes! The show is 18+ and only $10, but for those of you who aren't in the city tonight you can still listen in to the party performances thanks to the fine folks at Lala.com. Speaking of tuning in, this SFist is debuting her weekly radio show on BAGeL this afternoon at 4pm Pacific time. Hear yours truly playing indie singer-songwriters, be they solo artists or band leaders, plus their classic influences. Today's show includes Jose Gonzalez, Jesse Sykes, PJ Harvey, a special sound-a-like between Spoon and Edwyn Collins and more.

This week's giveaway comes from The Finches, a local duo who play endearing folk pop. The songs are refreshingly gentle and Carolyn's voice rings with a true sincerity. See them Saturday afternoon at 2pm when they play a free in-store at Amoeba, or celebrate their CD release at Cafe Du Nord on Wednesday night with The Moore Brothers, Colossal Yes and The Mantles. It's been a few months since we raved about Ratatat and gave away their CD, so we figure it's time again to extol their greatness. Like we said last time, RATATAT's music is so melodic, varied and compelling that it makes vocals and lyrics seem superfluous. The Brooklyn duo expertly mixes snakey synth lines with sneering guitar, cello, sleigh bells and samples like the appropriately primal roar in "Wildcat". File under: Things That Make You Go "ROWR!"

Last week we got to see one of our favorite new bands Scanners twice, in two different cities. At Cafe Du Nord there were maybe 50 people in the house, but in New York we were sardined amongst a few hundred sweaty, sweater-clad CMJers. No matter the size of the audience, frontwoman Sarah Daly pouts, glowers, stares and gives it her all. This band is talented, comely, exciting, dynamic both live and on record, and they're part of tastemaker label Dim Mak's hipper-than-thou roster. So why are we so worried that we're never going to hear from Scanners again? San Francisco music lovers, we know you will get this. Listen to their music and buy their record before they go back to the UK forever.

SFist had a rock-n-roll weekend that started last Friday night at Varnish for our 2nd birthday party. Not only did DJ Ted of BAGeL Radio rock the house with a few hours of his finest tracks, our friend Nick Tangborn from Jackpine Social Club also brought Mark Eitzel down for a few beers. It was great to meet some readers and the SFist bingo game was a real highlight, especially when one of our partygoers asked if she'd gotten bingo by drinking one of each in a category of cocktails from the drink menu. We like that kind of initiative.

Thanks again to everyone who made our Second birthday party kick total ass. From DJ Ted of BAGel Radio, to Kerri and Jen of Varnish Fine Art (and who can forget our tireless bartenders?), to IODA for providing us with SFist Bingo swag (our swag is empty now! Someone send us some stuff!), it was a great shindig.

(and sorry to do this to you, Chris Daly, after you were nice enough to come to our party and sign all the bingo card squares offered to you, in the space labeled "Political Candidate" -- but we couldn't resist!) We're throwing ourselves a second birthday party and we want all of you to come. After all, if it weren't for y'all readers, where would we be? Nowhere, that's where.

We first heard of Rogue Wave when they opened for Spoon a few years ago, and though we liked them back then, we had no idea they'd make such gorgeous records. Descended Like Vultures, released last October, is a must-own and with airplay on MTV2, a deal with Sub Pop and tours with Nada Surf and The Shins, they're not our hometown secret anymore.

We know that all of you will be hitting the Daly art opening tonight, probably hoping that he's joking when he says "Tomorrow I will discuss this legislation at the opening of The Hotel Project". Chris, less discussion, more two buck Chuck!
