In the smaller Electric Works gallery, artist Ian Huebert will exhibit his images from an "(imagined?) Plain States landscape." The exhibit runs through January 9, 2010.

3rd Annual California Dreaming Same-Sex Ballroom Dancing Competition

While today's young San Francisco gay gent prefers to (pretend to) skateboard, spend the night frolicking at Bender's, and eschew the art of proper hygiene, there was a day when the effete dandy reigned supreme among the homo sect. (No, Rufus Wainwright doesn't count. Ever.) And those dandies, if only the days of yore had allowed it, would have put on their Sunday best and busted it up on the ballroom floor. Lots of swirling, lots of twirling: the way God programmed gay men.

Oh, fine. Why not.

DJ Jeffrey Paradise: 1992 Is the New 1984

The Weekly's All Shook Down blog has this new interview with local DJ Jeffrey Paradise (the artist formerly known as Jefrodisiac), who along with DJ Richie Panic started Frisco Disco at Arrow Bar a few years back, and who's now helming a monthly '90s party at 111 Minna called Club 1992. The general idea is more Backstreet Boys and Yo MTV Raps! than Seattle grunge, and Paradise feels like nostalgia for the '90s has finally come into its own.

Steve Rhodes was on the scene at last night's Michael Jackson Tribute/Flashdance Flash Mob at Justin Herman Plaza. We hear it lasted for six hours. We're surprised there weren't any zombies. Check out SF Appeal for video footage and links to more photos of the event.

Last night's Lindy in the Square was a huge success. As the above photos demonstrate, folks of all ages were up there strutting their stuff. The striped-shirt fellow in the second photo, at right, gets the prize for being the most "into it." Lindy in the Square happens every fourth Wednesday of the month through September. The next one is on July 22, hosted by 9:20 Special.

This video was taken near 6th and Stevenson yesterday. It's good to know that our contingent of SOMA nutter butters are still enjoying life to the fullest.

Shrug off your post-Halloween blood-sugar hangover. Find your galoshes. Then dust off your umbrella-ella-ella-ella-ey-ey-ey and get out there in the rain to go see some excellent dance tonight!

In honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month, Andanza Spanish Arts and ODC Theater present an invigorating, original work, showcasing the eclectic and rich music and dance traditions of Spain/Mexico.
