When news broke that long-struggling clothing manufacturer American Apparel had been sold, it was a safe assumption that their business would face big changes — changes that will shutter the LA-based company's 110 retail stores, including the three that remain in San Francisco. The big question, as of Tuesday, is when that closure will occur.

As previously reported by our parent site, Gothamist, the 27-year-old company had been marching toward its demise for quite some time, following a high-profile split with its notoriously vile founder and multiple bankruptcies. Sold last week to Canadian retailer Gildan for a reported $88 million, the new owner says that they plan to close the company's factories and headquarters in Los Angeles, and are expected to move their manufacturing operation outside the US, removing the last reason people who make purchasing decisions based on where things are made will have to buy their goods.

Gildan also announced that they will be closing all of AA's retail locations, three of which are in SF: One is in Union Square at 363 Grant Avenue, another's in the Upper Haight at 1615 Haight Street, and the third is in Cow Hollow at 2174 Union Street. According to Hoodline, "No dates for the closures have been disclosed, and managers at both the Grant Avenue and Union Street locations said they were instructed not to speak to the press about the company's future plans," but "clothes were flying off the shelves of the two-story Union Square store, which was offering deep discounts of 40 to 70 percent on its tees, jeans, and hoodies."

The restructuring, or whatever you want to call it, by the company's new owners, is expected to cost 3,500 people their jobs, Gothamist reports, as Hoodline notes that a local AA staffer "bemoaned the fact that people don't appreciate non-sweatshop clothing." While I don't want to start an argument with someone who's about to lose their job, I don't know that that's the case — I speak with people every day who are making an effort to keep their dollars local when they can.

And would AA have staggered on as long at they had if people didn't appreciate their commitment to making clothing in the US? I really don't think so, as Gothamist notes that if you shopped at American Apparel, you did so knowing you'd drop "a little more on cotton T-shirts than you might elsewhere, but you knew your clothes weren't made by exploited children halfway around the world."

If you're a person concerned about US-based clothing manufacturing, you still have options — and by purchasing from those companies, you still have the opportunity to demonstrate that you, too "appreciate non-sweatshop clothing." New York-based Royal Apparel has a full line of US-made clothing (I should disclose here that I make and sell t-shirts and exclusively use Royal Apparel, but they didn't give me a damn thing to mention them), and Bella+Canvas has a small line of US-made goods that I suspect they'd expand if enough interest was demonstrated. So, while the AA era is coming to a close (and maybe it should), people who want American-made apparel still do have places to find it, places that (as of publication date) lack CEOs who jack off in front of reporters.

After a holiday season that left major retail chains reeling with disappointment, department store giants Macy's, Sears, and Kmart have announced a massive wave of real estate sales, closures and shutdowns, including one high-visibility closure in San Francisco.

It's no new news that department stores have struggled for a while, with a reported failure to adapt to current shopping trends causing losses quarter after quarter. This week, we're seeing the result of those losses, as 108 Kmart locations and 42 Sears locations announced closures Wednesday.

Though the few remaining Bay Area Kmart and Sears locations are untouched by this round of cuts, another floundering company's issues will have an impact on local shoppers, as Macy's also announced the closure of 68 stores and the loss of 10,000 jobs Wednesday, according to the Associated Press. As part of that reorganization, the SF Business Times reports, Macy's will be selling its Stonestown Galleria store to the San Francisco mall's operator, General Growth Properties.

That doesn't mean that the store will close right away, the AP reports, as they will "will lease back the Stonestown location for an undisclosed amount of time" until making way for a new tenant. So, a shuttering looms, but no one knows or is saying when, a cloud of certain doom sure to make the already fraught and spooky experience of shopping the deserted, messy, and oft-strange-smelling store all the more pleasant.

CNBC reports that "Macy's comparable sales fell 2.1 percent in November and December." The layoffs and closures are expected to "save the company an estimated $550 million a year starting in 2017. The company will use these proceeds to invest an additional $250 million in its digital business, as well as the growth of its Bluemercury beauty shops, Macy's Backstage off-price stores, and China," CNBC reports.

According to a press release sent by Macy's, closures and sales like this one are expected to "focus resources on strategic priorities, improve organizational agility and reduce expense" and the sale of the Stonestown property (and others) is "consistent with the previously announced real estate strategy."

It's still unknown what's next for the 280,000-square-foot Stonestown space Macy's will at some point vacate. When contacted by the Business Times, a General Growth spokesperson refused to comment specifically on their plans, but said "We have redeveloped, and are currently redeveloping, over 100 former anchor and big box sites throughout our portfolio over the past 5 years. The Macy's at Stonestown represents a further opportunity for us to add value to the property."

As previously reported, Macy's also sold its Union Square Men's Store, in a November deal with Morgan Stanley worth an estimated $250 million. The company says they will continue to lease the 120 Stockton Street property back from its new landlord for the next two years, as their main store is reconfigured to accomodate the men's department. That is, assuming that by the end of 2018 any department stores remain at all.

Dottie's True Blue Cafe is known as much for its long lines as its epic brunches. But for at least the next week, they won't be offering either, as the Sixth Street joint has temporarily shut its doors.

As Inside Scoop reports, a sign on their door says that they will be closed “until at least February 26th for personal reasons.”

Dottie's, as you might recall, moved from its longstanding Tenderloin location to Sixth and Market Streets in 2012. An effort to rename that notoriously-tough area of the city "Comfort Corner," never really caught on, but Dottie's has been doing just fine without a cutsey 'hood name, with lengthy waits for breakfast, lunch, and brunch.

In Dottie's outgoing voicemail message, chef-owner Kurt Abney says that they will provide updates on a reopening date as warranted. We here at SFist hope that everything's OK for Abney and everyone else in the Dottie's family, and they they reopen soon.

Want To Visit Lombard's Crooked Stretch This Weekend? So, you have out-of-town guests, but they're too delicate for Fisherman's Wharf's Dungeon and too afraid of ghosts to go to Alcatraz. All they want to do it visit that crooked street they've heard so much about. But starting this weekend, it's closed to non-resident traffic! Relax, there's a way to get around this closure, and it's an easy one.

No, the solution is not to "lie and say you're a resident." That's stupid. Instead, just take a cab.

As you recall, resident complaints about traffic spurred the SFMTA to institute a pilot program in which non-resident motor vehicles will be banned from the crooked stretch of Lombard (that's the bit between Larkin and Leavenworth) from noon to 6 PM every Saturday and Sunday through July 13. It'll also be closed on Friday, July 4.

However, the SFMTA board voted to continue to allow cabs (not Uber or Lyft, actual rapidly-collapsing-industry taxi cabs) to travel the street during those hours.

Of course, you could walk, too, but avoid the temptation provided by an empty road and keep it on the sidewalk. For, according to the Chron, "Pedestrians will still be allowed to use the sidewalks...but will not be permitted to walk or gather on the crooked street itself."

Depending on how the pilot goes, SFMTA leadership will make a decision whether to keep the weekend closure going, or to, they say, "seek State legislation to allow the City to gate Lombard Street so that only local traffic can drive down the Crooked Street at all times or when deemed necessary."

San Mateo-Hayward Bridge Closed This Weekend

From 10 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday, the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge will shutdown completely for maintenance work.
When the SFMOMA announced plans to expand last December, reporters rhapsodized over the renovation plans. One question went nearly unaddressed: though the Chron's John King noted in passing that the construction would require a closure for an "unspecified period," no specifics were announced or reported. With construction expected to start in the summer of 2013, the SFMOMA continues to refuse to release specifics on the building's closure, even as some employees of the museum say that the facility is expected to shutter completely for as long as three years.

According to two sources inside SFMOMA, the museum will close down for as long as three years: one of those years staggered, two of said years shut down entirely. (Though there will be outside events that "go beyond its walls.") That's a pretty big window of time, especially for the museum's many employees. For more information, we asked the museum's public relations manager Robyn Wise for more details. We also asked her if the majority of museum employees will be out of work for two years, or, if that's not the case, what the employees (not just curators, as the museum employs a lot of people) will be being paid to do if the museum is closed.

Wise replied, "We're not yet ready to share that level of detail about our interim programming. But we are planning a slate of programs...that are innovative and will utilize the expertise and creativity of our staff."

On Tuesday, SFMOMA released interesting yet somewhat hazy plans for the future, noting:

As part of the next phase of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA)'s expansion project, the museum today announced plans to go beyond its walls and directly into the community through an array of collaborative and traveling museum exhibitions, site-specific installations, and neighborhood festivals that will unfold throughout the Bay Area and beyond during construction of its new building.

The expansion project breaks ground roughly a year from now in summer of 2013 and is slated for completion in early 2016. Instead of relocating to a temporary home during the approximately two-and-a-half- year span leading up to the inauguration of the new building, SFMOMA will use this period to experiment with new ideas, engage in dialogue with a range of cultural partners, and create innovative ways for audiences to experience the museum's collection.

While not mentioning a specific time of closure, the museum goes on to add:

SFMOMA's decision to pursue off-site programming during construction evolved from a detailed review of the best options for the museum's art collection, the audiences it serves, and its vision for the future. Joint programs through partnership further SFMOMA's mission to make art not only widely accessible, but accessible in continually new and surprising ways.

In the weeks leading up to the final day of public museum operation in the current building—which will be Sunday, June 2, 2013—the museum will host a series of celebratory events and programs to mark the beginning of this next stage in the museum's evolution.

They go on to list a slew of great off-site events (pop-ups, as San Francisco's food sect calls them) that will take place over the course of the museum's renovation. The museum will start construction in 2013, with a completion date estimated for 2016.

Update: As SFist commenter mayonnaiseslacks points out, "[H]ere's another section of phrasing they sent out via a membership email yesterday: 'To complete the construction that is part of the museum's transformation, it will be necessary to move our exhibitions and programs completely off site for a period of time. June 2, 2013, roughly a year from now, will be the last day our building is open to the public until we reopen in early 2016.' "

May Day: Demonstration Shuts Down 16th & Mission [Updated]

The revolution will be Instagramed, as pictured here by Jen Ackrill, and nowhere else does that sentiment ring truer than in the heart of the city's Missi...

SF News

closure

may day

mission

protest

shut down

traffic

Brock Keeling

The revolution will be Instagramed, as pictured here by Jen Ackrill, and nowhere else does that sentiment ring truer than in the heart of the city's Mission District.
We will update as soon as we know more.

UPDATE: Looks like the intersection has reopened, with the peaceful yet bombastic gathering moving downtown.

Friday, December 23rd will be the restaurant's last day to grab their infamous in-side-out burger (two patties, bun in the middle, all skewered with a large steak knife) or the opulent Champagne of Burgers. After the new year, the co-owners plan to focus on their more grown-up concept at Thermidor in Mint Plaza.

As for Spork, the restaurant's departure is an amicable one, co-owner Neil Jorgensen told Tablehopper that in addition to Thermidor they'll be working on a few new projects, one of which hopefully brings more hamburgers.

The delightful fast food throwback building (it used to be a KFC, appropriately enough) is slated to be demolished to make way for new condos and a bigger restaurant.

It's no great shock that blue-collar workers falling outside the esteemed food service industry are as despised by the right as they are they left. They're poor. They lack iconic ¡todos somos! credibility. And who wants to be poor and uncool? Not you. No matter how much Tecate or PBR you loudly consume. And both left and right bellyachers seem to know what's best for... them. Take, for example, Monday's temperate Port of Oakland closure by the Occupy Oakland sect. Although the Occupy movement said that the West Coast closures were an attempt to draw focus on "continued union-busting and attacks on organized labor," several noted union teams reportedly did not approve the shutdown beforehand. Neither the Teamster's union nor the International Longshore and Warehouse Union cleared the strike, or so says the Mercury News.

Both organizations said that the shutdown hurts barely paid truck drivers and blue-collar workers who fall well outside the socioeconomic circles of the infamous 1 percent. In part of a written statement issued on Sunday, former Cal activist and current Oakland Mayor Jean Quan said, "The Port of Oakland is not the home of the 1 percent. Rather, it generates over 73,000 jobs in the region and is connected to more than 800,000 jobs across the country. It is one of the best sources of good paying blue-collar jobs left in our city."

But wait! According to this open letter from the Coalition for Clean & Safe Ports from drivers acting as elected spokespersons from several ports (and ghostwritten by a PR person in an office), frontline workers did, in fact, support yesterday's shutdown. In part of a lengthy statement, Leonardo Mejia (SSA Marine/Shippers Transport Express, Port of Long Beach 10-year driver), Yemane Berhane (Ports of Seattle & Tacoma, 6-year port driver), Xiomara Perez (Toll Group, Port of Los Angeles, 8-year driver), Abdul Khan (Port of Oakland, 7-year port driver), and Ramiro Gotay (Ports of New York & New Jersey, 15-year port driver) proclaim:

[...] We believe in the power and potential behind a truly united 99%. We admire the strength and perseverance of the longshoremen. We are fighting like mad to overcome our exploitation, so please, stick by us long after December 12. Our friends in the Coalition for Clean & Safe Ports created a pledge you can sign to support us here.

We drivers have a saying, “We may not have a union yet, but no one can stop us from acting like one.”

The brothers and sisters of the Teamsters have our backs. They help us make our voices heard. But we need your help too so we can achieve the day where we raise our fists and together declare: “No one could stop us from forming a union.”

Hmm.

What say you, blue-collar workers? What do you think? When you have a spare moment from working double overtime at two jobs in order to pay for a limited Christmas for your family, please make sure to voice your opinion in the comments.

Hooters SF Closing Down

In food and mammary news, the Hooters in Fishermen's Wharf will close its doors for good this month.
In food and mammary news, the Hooters in Fishermen's Wharf will close its doors for good this month. They're slated to put away the boobage on December 21, the store manager explained to SFist. For a taste as to what Hooters has/had to offer, local writer Beth Spotswood visited the chain restaurant earlier this year. In part, she writes: "What I don’t understand is why you’d ever want to go to Hooters in the first place. Are boobs really that much of a novelty for the patrons of Hooters? Is proximity to hot chicks and gross food that much of a rarity? The sweet girls working there, lovely as they are, walk around in an incredibly unappealing uniform, like a sexed up version of the Hot Dog on a Stick ensemble. Of all the places on Fisherman’s Wharf to dine, why would anyone go to Hooters?"

She'll tell you why.

For those of you crestfallen over Hooters' San Francisco demise, fear not! A Penthouse Club set to open in 2012 will provide us with all the breasts and steak money can buy.

If you must, you have a little less than two weeks to experience Hooters SF. Hooters: 353 Jefferson Street at the Wharf.

Café Gratitude Announces NorCal Closures [Updated]

Terces Engelhart, owner of Café Gratitude, just posted the following ...

SF Restaurants, Food & Drink

Cafe Gratitude

closure

restaurants

Brock Keeling

Terces Engelhart, owner of Café Gratitude, just posted the following announcement on her Facebook page announcing the closure/sale of all Northern California Café Gratitudes locations. According to Englehart, some "aggressive lawsuits" from former employees brought her to the decision to shutter her vegan/cult restaurants.

Engelhart writes:

With great sadness we are announcing the upcoming closing/sale of all Northern California Café Gratitudes.

A series of aggressive lawsuits has brought us to this unfortunate choice. Although we believe that we have done nothing wrong and our policies are completely legal, it will cost us too much money to defend them in court. Despite telling the attorneys that brought the lawsuits that the current structure and resources of Café Gratitude are insufficient to sustain and defend our community, they have refused to give up and are forcing us to close.

We appreciate the loyalty of our employees and customers over these past 8 years and are grateful for having had the opportunity to serve each of you. We were happy to tolerate low margins and sustain ourselves on the transformation and personal growth of our people, while providing local organic vegan food to our community in an atmosphere of unconditional love. That commitment is under attack and we are not able to weather this storm.

This process will take a few months so please keep coming in and let's celebrate our 8 years of success together, we are grateful for you!

We have come to realize that it isn’t how we serve that is most important but rather that we serve.

Our mission will survive this, as love cannot be threatened.

Thank you and love to you all,

Matthew and Terces Engelhart on behalf of Café Gratitude, LLC

The lawsuits in question stem from former Gratitude employees who left the restaurant with a bad taste in their mouths, so to speak. East Bay Express published a 2009 article that claimed, among other things, employees were fired for not attending Landmark Forum classes.

What outsiders may not know is that the culture at Café Gratitude is closely interwoven with a self-help philosophy of personal transformation called the Landmark Forum. Café Gratitude's founders say the classes and seminars, which employees are highly encouraged to take, empower people, create a better work environment, and help change lives. Yet some employees say the curriculum fosters an uncomfortable environment in which their personal beliefs are compromised. One former employee says she was fired for refusing to attend a Landmark seminar, and it's unclear whether the company's practice of requiring managers to attend and pay for half of the $500 seminar is legal.

"It is definitely a challenge for those people to stay comfortable saying no," admitted Paddy Smith, general manager of the Berkeley Café Gratitude. Although Smith says she was initially "offended" by the invitation to attend one of the seminars, she eventually signed up and found it to be a "life-changing" experience. "I learned how to be empowered and creative, get the results I want," she said. At Café Gratitude, she added, Landmark's teachings manifest themselves in the form of better communication, honesty, openness, and a no-gossip policy, and are so ingrained into company culture that she has a hard time differentiating between the two. In fact, Café Gratitude wouldn't exist if it wasn't for Landmark.

In 2011, former employee Sarah Stevens filed suit claiming "that in her time working at various CafGraf locations, she was deprived of legally-mandated breaks, and received only a fraction of the tips she rightfully earned." Via a statement from her legal team, Kumin Sommers LLP:

In addition to not receiving her rest and meal periods, Stevens alleges that she is required to participate in an unreasonable and uncustomary tip pooling scheme that leaves her with a very small percentage of the tips she earns as a server. Specifically, Stevens alleges that after tipping out 20% of her daily tips to the “central kitchen” — an offsite kitchen on 14th street — Stevens must then split the remaining 80% of her tips equally with all of the Café Gratitude staff, including the “shift leaders” and retail employees.

Among other gastronomic eccentricities, Cafe Gratitude was famous for its menu, which boasted such food titles as "I Am Dazzling" or "I Am Fulfilled" or "I Am Grounded."

No word yet if this means Gracias Madre, Cafe Gratitude's vegan mexican food restaurant on Mission Street, will close too. But we'll update as soon as we know more.

Update I: SFist talked to Shandra Gilbert, Gratitude's Director of Operations, who explained to us that, yes, Gracias Madre is also up for sale. Alas.

Update II: According to Vegansaurus, many employees had no idea the closures were coming. They found out only after reading SFist. Vegansaurus' Laura Beck reports, "We now know for a fact that many employees (like, higher-up employees) had NO CLUE this was happening. They found out via SFist. Really nice, Café Gratitude."

Update III: Inside Scoop notes that, quite conceivably, Cafe Gratitude might not be closing just because of employee lawsuits. "These are not huge cases. There's no reason, financially, for them to close eight locations,” Stephen Sommers, an attorney who filed the wage and hour claims, tells Inside Scoop. He goes on to add that, since the lawsuit number is under $200,000 and this is not a class-action suit, "[t]hey are not closing these restaurants because of these lawsuits. There’s something else."

Which is to say, hmmm.

Update IV: LAist reports that the Gratitude, which opened in March of this year, will remain open. "Café Gratitude's NorCal owners Matthew and Terces Engelhart have teamed up with Christopher and Lisa Bonbright under a separate LLC to run the only SoCal outpost of the eatery that serves raw and vegan eats to plebes and celebs," notes LAist editor Lindsay William-Ross.

Occupy SF Protesters March in FiDi, Block Wells Fargo HQ [UPDATED]

After meeting up with hotel workers at the Hyatt (employees who have been in a union battle years), <a href="http://sf...

SF News

closure

financial district

occupy sf

occupy wall street

protest

wells fargo bank

Brock Keeling

After meeting up with hotel workers at the Hyatt (employees who have been in a union battle years), Occupy SF protesters have marched towards Wells Fargo on Montgomery and California. The general sentiment is frustration that banks received a bail out while regular folks suffer during the economic crisis. According to Sal Castaneda, "OccupySF protesters have arrived at Wells Fargo World Headquarters on Montgomery near California Sts., blocking entrances. Expect delays."

The group convened at Market and Drumm streets at 7 a.m. this morning. Some protesters, according to BCN (via SF Appeal), "held signs reading 'Foreclose Wall Street,' 'Stop the corporate greed,' and 'We are the 99 percent.' "

Two political candidates for SF Mayor, Joanna Rees and John Avalos, have used this morning's protest to garner votes, get their face out there, and voice their support.

Update: Hundreds of protesters are blocking the Wells Fargo on Montgomery and California. Police have started making arrests.

8:25: Helicopters hovering about Federal Building and Wells Fargo corporate offices on California. Police have closed off Montgomery and Sacramento.

8:32: Though chaotic, the scene is a peaceful one, reports KRON 4 Morning News.

8:40: At least <s>11</s> 12 protesters have been arrested. According to Benjamin Bloom, some folks trying to get to work aren't thrilled about encroaching on the protest. "I feel like a scab crossing the picket lines," said one Wells Fargo employee.

8:46: Occupy SF protesters have surrounded the entire building. Employees don't feel safe trying to get inside. "Frenzy of 10 minutes ago has slowed," reports KRON 4 Morning News.

8:57: Live music happening at the protest. Also, service on the 1-California bus and California cable car have been suspended. (Use the Stockton bus instead.)

9:15: Wells Fargo still closed off. KRON 4 Morning News interviewed an excited, yet insipid, protester from Mills College. Terrible spokeswoman on all accounts, completely lost focus and said that the protest was about, among other things, transphobia and cats. (Huh?) Anyway.

Carlos Bar, one of the few watering holes in the Mission geared towards Latinos, closed its doors on June 30. Its alcohol license was suspended by the Department of Alcohol Beverage Control. Why? Mission Local reports: "According to Danielle Shafer, supervisor investigator with the Department of Alcohol Beverage ControlA six-month department investigation, which began 2009 and completed early 2010, found bar owner Carlos Gutierrez and his employees guilty of profit sharing - that is, hiring cocktail waitresses to pressure patrons into buying drinks at a higher rate than normal."

That is to say, waitresses tried bilking customers "between $5 and $10 more than the bar's standard prices," which they would then divvy between owner and waitress.

In fact, here's one Yelper who was apparently screwed over by a Carlos Bar waitress. Steven H. bemoans: "Is $8 worth it for a well vodka and tonic at 6pm on a weekday? Not at a dumpy bar I'd say. Carlos Club offers hostesses who are ready to take a drink order the minute you walk in the door, faster than your eyes can adjust to the dark interiors. I recommend getting the bottled beers because at least those prices are posted. But in general, I would not recommend the overpriced, underquality drinks here."

Although the bars owners, Carlos and Rosa Gutierrez, filed for due process when these allegations were revealed, the courts ruled against them.

Located at 3278 24th Street, the bar will remain closed "until a new application is filed and approved by city officials and the California Department of Alcohol Beverage Control." Until then, a new owner could step in and, God forbid, turn the local institution into, say, a steampunk-themed eclair shop. Or whatever obnoxious retail atrocity Valencia Street denizens find tragically adorable these days.

So here's the deal: During last night's emergency meeting at The Eagle Tavern and estimated 250-300 people convened to mourn/fight the bar's impending closure. Former Supervisor Bevan Dufty, along with a gaggle of folks from the queer and music communities, spoke touchingly about what the bar means to them. Ideas were tossed around about what, if anything, can be done. In the end, though, it looks like the Eagle will be a fond memory in the not too distant future. "The owners, John Gardiner and Joe Banks, had arranged a deal last year to transfer the lease to Eagle manager Ron Hennis and Lila Thirkield, owner of the Lexington Club. But before that deal could go through, the owner of the property decided he wanted to start a bar there himself, and wouldn't allow the current owners to transfer the lease," reports SF Weekly.

According to Michael Petrelis, D6 Supervisor Jane Kim sent a representative to speak. "The staffer said Kim was making inquiries about the situation and gathering more facts, and that she wants the bar to stay open."

Later in the night, a march and protest followed the rally, prompted by local drag queen/budding politico Anna Conda. Joshua Joshnson of KQED reports:

Dufty and Sup. Scott Wiener were also on hand for a protest march that followed the rally. Patrons headed from the Eagle at 12th & Harrison to Skylark, a bar at 16th & Valencia in the Mission. Skylark's nothing like the Eagle -- it features reggae, R&B and a stylish decor for a mainstream crowd -- but its owners have reportedly acquired the Eagle's liquor license.

Marchers briefly commandeered the inside of the intimate bar, chanting "Hell, no! We won't let the Eagle go!" It caused a minor tiff between staff and a few protesters, but a passing SFPD officer quickly defused the situation.

And with that, Anna Conda will host a gueriilla queer bar of sorts, happening tomorrow night at Skylark (3089 16th Street). Behold:
