Things at last Friday's pot-banging protest of a Hillary Clinton fundraiser featuring George and Amal Clooney heated up, although perhaps not in the manner anyone was expecting. As we previously noted, the $353,400 (per couple) fundraiser set to take place at the Nob Hill home of venture capitalist Shervin Pishevar got the attention of protesters who decried the high price as a negative reflection of money in politics. And so, they planned to show up and bang pots. One woman, it seems, decided on a different form of protest, and her NSFW effort to stick it to the (wo)man was caught live on a NBC Bay Area telecast.

"Now Hillary Clinton and George Clooney will hold another fundraiser tomorrow night in Los Angeles, this time at Clooney's mansion, and the price to get into that one will be around $34,000," noted NBC Bay Area anchor Pete Suratos, clearly unaware of the woman who had walked up behind him, with a very large grin, and proceeded to flash her boobs at the camera.

"And we apologize for that in the background of Pete's live shot there," deadpanned a seemingly unflappable anchorwoman.

Before things took a turn for the R-rated, protesters reportedly chanted "We are the 99 percent," and "Votes for sale only $353,000, including dinner." The show, it seems, was free of charge.

While she decided to retire the "everyday Americans" catchphrase last fall, presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton has still struggled to combat the impression that she is out of touch with the concerns of the average voter. It is an impression that will not be challenged by news of upcoming campaign fundraiser for the candidate to be held in San Francisco. An invite for the April 15 event lists the comical price of $353,400 (per couple) to eat dinner with both Clinton and George and Amal Clooney.

"Please join George and Amal Clooney for cocktails and dinner with Hillary Rodham Clinton in support of the Hillary Victory Fund," reads the invite (which interestingly gives the Clooneys top billing) emailed out to potential donors.

As Politico notes, that $353,400 price tag is more than four times the average income in San Francisco.

The dinner is set to take place at the San Francisco home of venture capitalist Shervin Pishevar, and offers several tiered pricing options. For $353,400, you and your dining partner can be an honorary "event chair," a designation which comes with the exciting opportunity to lobby (likely future president) Clinton during a "roundtable" in addition to "premium dinner seating." A bit out of your range? For the $100,000, you and a guest can hang at the "host reception." Still too expensive? For $33,400 you can get a photo with candidate.

Politico points out that the money is going to the Hillary Victory Fund, a joint fundraising committee that is legally allowed to accept well over the $2,700 primary campaign individual contribution limit.

The San Francisco fundraiser is to be followed by a similar LA fundraiser with the Clooneys on April 16, reports Page Six, which also quotes Hillary for America national finance director Dennis Cheng as saying they "expect both events to sell out." That event will also include Steven Spielberg and wife Kate Capshaw, and Jeffrey

Better snap those tickets up fast.

Tuesday was Hillary Clinton Day at the Democratic National Convention in Denver. The senator and former presidential candidate gave a rousing speech that most pundits agreed accomplished what she had promised to do: leave no doubt that she is fully behind the candidacy of her former rival, Sen. Barack Obama.

Before the speech, all any journalist trolling for stories inside the Pepsi Center wanted to do was figure out any sort of fresh angle on Clinton they could manage, and all any delegate or guest wanted to do was to get inside for a prime viewing spot before she began. Which brings me to my first lesson of Day 2 of the DNC:

Be Careful When You Go to the Bathroom: Being a member of the State Blogger Corps, I have a seat reserved for me on the floor in the District of Columbia's section inside the Pepsi Center. But after taking a quick break outside to grab a soda and use the bathroom about 30 minutes before Clinton's speech was set to begin, I was denied entry to the floor upon my return. The Secret Service had shut down every access door to the delegate seats, apparently because the DNCC had issued far more floor passes than the Pepsi Center could actually handle. One sympathetic door staff employee told me she was sorry, but that the Secret Service and the fire marshal had just chewed her out for letting someone else inside before me. She wasn't supposed to let anyone else in, "no matter who they are."

I wasn't the only one who got stuck in the arena's concourse. Hundreds of frustrated pass holders sprinted from door to door, only to find the same situation at each one. By the time it was clear no one was getting inside, those left out began gathering around the many TV monitors in the hall to pay attention to the speech. There were so many people stuck outside that it was difficult even to get a clear view of the screens.

A couple more lessons after the jump.
This is part of "The Plot." Instigated by Rush Limbaugh, the theory is that Hillary Clinton would be easier for Republican fave, John McCain, to beat at election time. By having Republicans voting for Hils in the primary instead of Barack Obama, this will help ensure that McCain will be the victorious one in the White House. Supposedly.

While you're not (technically) allowed to change party affiliations day of the primary -- protocol calls for one to sign a pledge card promising to support that party in the future -- the article reports that "dozens and dozens of Republicans scribbled addendums onto their pledges as new Democrats: 'For one day only.' 'I don't believe in abortion,'" and were rarely challenged by poll workers on their party change.

According to the Daily Kos, someone in the Clinton campaign took Obama's image from this video and darkened (a la OJ Simpson gracing the covers of Time and Newsweek) for this commercial. According to the Kos:

In case you needed yet another reason to despise Hillary Clinton and her vermin strategists, she's now running an ad blatantly lying about Obama's subcommittee. Her ad includes debate footage heavily doctored to make Obama blacker.

So to sum things up, politics is still a dirty game but you should act surprised with self-righteous indignation whenever this point rears its ugly head. Oh, and while we're busy with our in-fighting, McCain is just going to go ahead and steal the Oval Office if that's cool with you guys. Thanks.

Matt Gonzalez for VP, Says Nader

Usually when a Presidential candidate announces his VP choice it's either to try and help him win some state or area that could help him win or to try and strengthen an apparent weakness. Take, for example, Bill Clinton who chose Al Gore to help him win the South. And in 2000, George Bush selected Dick Cheney to help alleviate his complete lack of experience. So with that, we announce that Ralph Nader's Vice President pick is our very own Matt Gonzalez. Yay!

Also: huh?

Obviously the choice makes sense. Nader has a well-deserved reputation as a bit of a boring drip, so Gonzalez will help him with the hipster/artist types who will instantly fall in love with our one-time mayoral candidate's dreamy eyes and foppish hair. Plus,it will also give Nader a chance to win the electorally-rich Mission and Haight hoods.

As for Gonzalez? Well, we're guessing this awesome VP opportunity will help him grab lingering Nader supporters across the country. As for the almost impossible odds the Nader/Gonzalez team face? Matt says that he "has never entered a political campaign without the idea that it could be won."

Day Around the Bay

Arts & Entertainment

Clinton

Golden Gate

golden gate park

nature

Radiohead

sf

Brock Keeling

But first, according to the Merc:

...Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger must issue a declaration today that would allow the 12th Congressional District race to appear on the June 3 ballot. If he waits until after today, San Mateo County would have to hold a separate, special election that could cost $500,000 or more... The governor's office said Schwarzenegger is aware of that limitation and state officials were working to complete the necessary paperwork.

Rep. Lantos, if you recall, died Monday morning, and endorsed State Sen. Jackie Speier as his successor. He represented most of the Sunset District in SF, and San Mateo County.
