Bless you, Drew Altizer, for your always-fun pictures of the local celebs in town! We wish we were Vegasist, so you'd have some pictures of Britney Spears's flabtastic performance at the VMAs last night. (aaaaaaaaaah!!!!!!)

It's the third annual San Francisco Notable Portrait Auction, to benefit Creativity Explored! We love this event. Creativity Explored is dedicated to promoting works by local developmentally disabled artists, and they invite a group of local celebs to sit for portraits by their artists, and then auction them off with the celebs in attendance. Jonathan Richman (!!!!) will also be playing.

(it seemed like it took forever).

SFist commeters pose for before and aftershocks when the mayor commemorates a 1906 earthquake...at 4:30 in the morning. A hot tip on the Chronicle vending machines comes in and the SFist war correspondent risks life and limb to post this dispatch from the frontlines.

SFist interviews Ambulance Ltd.

pacheights.jpg The traditional weekend SF shootings report: three shootings in the Mission (two fatal), one shooting in the Bayview, and one fatal shooting at Twin Peaks. Police are investigating. The Richmond police department says they've nabbed a "kingpin" in the gang violence plaguing that city. Vincent Jones, who was wanted for two counts of attempted murder, fled from the cops and was found hiding in a garbage can by a police dog. Jones resisted arrest, and the dog bit him, causing minor injury. ...but you want to know what's really a crime? Naming your son Kal-El! Local celebs Nicolas Cage and Alice Kim, you couldn't have just gone with Clark Kent Cage or something?

SFist made a startling discovery this week. The Bay Area is a fame whore! How else can you explain there being eight (at least!) weekly TV shows named after our fair neck of the woods? How can one small area of this vast Golden State warrant that much coverage? How much TV time does the Bay Area really need? Do we really want to be seen as the Paris Hilton of Northern California?

p5unit.jpg California politicians are in a state of shock after hearing the news that soon-to-be-former Sec. of State Kevin Shelley's Palm Pilot was stolen from his Glen Park home. "It's crazy! I'm getting emails from people pretending to be Hugh Hefner!" said beleaguered state controller Steve Westly. The Palm Pilot, which Shelley repetitively bragged about having used to raise millions of dollars off of, not only contained the personal email and cell phone information of many of California's hottest political celebs but also, more embarassingly, personal notes like "get Help America Vote kill pill" and "check from Julie Lee," as well as some triple-x hottt [NSFW, or ever, really] photos of Shelley in compromising positions with state treasurer Phil Angelides and insurance commissioner John Garamendi. Politicians from Schwarzenegger on down are bracing themselves for an onslaught of calls from bored teens looking for fun. But the most intriguing entry? "Newson, san fran mayor, 415-[redacted]." JK, JK. Shelley did lose his Palm Pilot, though. He blames disgruntled employees.
