Newsom Already Raises $15,000 by 1 p.m.

After announcing his bid for candidacy for California Governor this morning, Mayor Gavin Newsom sent this message via Twitter, "We've raised $15,000 online today. Thank you for the support. Help us reach our goal of $20,000. Please ReTweet: http://tr.im/ji64 ." $15K?! Jesus. (You totally owe us an onion bagel with cream cheese, Gav, for SFist's major linkage to your contribution links. Seriously. And we want it lightly toasted too. We digress.) So, yeah, the internet is cool and stuff. Who knew? Anyway, read more about Newsom's online world wide web internet "blitz" with this deeply fellating article.

Everyone has to be ready to have difficult conversations NOW

"Everyone has to be ready to have difficult conversations NOW," said Kate Kendall (Exective Director of the National Center for Lesbian Rights, and one of the architects of the No On Prop 8 campaign) at an event last night that was a hybrid of town hall, panel discussion, and mass-group-therapy. She was talking about having challenging talks with potential allies who still need some winning-over, but she might as well have been referring to the event itself. It was, by the standards of consensus-happy San Francisco, a pretty tough room.

Former eBay CEO Meg Whitman Set To Make Foolish Run For CA Governor

Noted Republican, Silicon Valley resident, and gay-marriage hater Meg Whitman is all set to take over Sacramento, at least according to an AP article. "The person was not authorized to talk publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity," the article boasts, going on to say, "He [the secret source] said the 52-year-old Republican hopes to succeed Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2011 but is not ready to make a formal announcement." So, we guess, she's officially throwing her can of Aqua Net in the ring.

Finally, Some Prop 8 Leaders Who Aren't Afraid of a Little Fight

Back in October, the Yes on 8 "people" challenged California's Superintendent of Schools, Jack O'Connell, to a debate about gay marriage. According to Yes, even the remotest possibility of learning anything about gay marriage is harmful to children. Nothing hateful about that!

Last night's Marriage Equality Community Forum was neat! It started with a brief hello from former New Paltz mayor Jason West. We tried to get a picture, but as you can see, he is simply too dreamy and wonderful to be captured by normal photographic equipment.

So what's the deal with the next round of Prop 8 protests? Oh, we are so glad you asked.

Is this a threatening letter? Well ... kind of, we guess. It sure looks like it's ? That's a tough call. Whoever wrote it seems to have lacked the competence necessary to actually instill fear.

Update: Complaints about the content of ads can be sent to Google here.

A few days ago, there was a new ad released by the people backing Prop 8 (the ballot amendment that would allow an out-of-state group to veto whatever California marriages they want). The ad condemned gay marriage and featured "Professor" Richard Peterson (pictured at right) making a number of demonstrably false suggestions. You can watch the ad here -- don't forget to rate! Thankfully, the lawyers for No On 8 have struck back with a STRONGLY WORDED LETTER to TV station owners.

SFist's dear neighbor's, Wired, came across this racially explosive internet meme on the Daily Kos, which is set to have Democrats duking it out online. According to the Daily Kos, someone in the Clinton campaign took Obama's image from this video and darkened (a la OJ Simpson gracing the covers of Time and Newsweek) for this commercial. According to the Kos:
