Ok. Here we go. We're going to attempt this post without fainting. And, if talk of blood makes you just as queasy, you might want to brace. See, Gavin Newsom/The PlumpJack Group's semi-annual "Burger for a Pint" blood drive kicks off tomorrow in San Francisco. (Ugh, we're getting tingly now.) If you donate a heaping pint of your viscous, crimson bodily fluid, you will be rewarded with one free Balboa Burger and fries compliments of Balboa Cafe. (Deep abdominal breaths, stretching.)

According Balboa Cafe's Facebook page: "Those who donate blood at the Blood Centers of the Pacific mobile donation center outside the restaurant receive a certificate for a complimentary burger, which can be redeemed over the next week." (Stepping away from the laptop; brief walk around SFist HQ.)

You can simply show up to 3199 Fillmore (SF) or 38 Miller Avenue (Mill Valley), or "visit www.bloodheroes.com and enter the sponsor code 'Balboa-SF' or 'Balboa-MV,'" depending on where you want to donate your life juice.

Why? Well, it seems TMZ ran a bit about it, and Inside Edition called to interview the KRON 4 sportscaster about the mini-hemorrhaging.
Looking fresh-faced wrapped in a classic Burberry scarf, former Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin gave an interview yesterday that can only be described as a pitiful attempt to get back on the Daily Show. In a 2008 news story on KTUU channel 2 in Anchorage, Palin is interviewed at a turkey farm while a man drains the blood from dead turkeys in the background.

Do not watch the above clip if you plan on eating lunch.

While we're of the we-don't-want-to-see-how-our-food-gets-to-the-table-just-so-long-as-it-does mentality - your Editor plans on hording allof the dark meat next Thursday - Palin's choice of backdrop is inappropriate. Really, how has she not fired her PR staff yet? Amazing.

Shooting at 20th Street & Mission Outside Ritmo Latino?

Following last night's stab/shoot, this most recent incident happened this afternoon in the Mission.
Yikes. Stay tuned.

Update 1: Another scene-of-the-crime photo waits after the jump.

Update 2: Looks like City can add yet another murder to its growing list. According to SF Sgt. Neville Gittens, the victim was "standing on the sidewalk, a guy walks up and shoots him" in broad daylight. Jesus Christ. Awful. The the Gate says that the unidentified victim died at SF General late this afternoon.

Mayor Newsom Offers Burger for Your Blood

SFist's favorite lady with whom to party, Tablehopper, reports that Balboa Cafe will be serving up free hamburgers to anyone who donates a pint of blood.

SF News

blood

burger

Newsom

Brock Keeling

[Warning: faint-worthy post to follow.]

SFist's favorite lady with whom to party, Tablehopper, reports that PlunpJack's Balboa Cafe will be serving up free hamburgers to anyone who donates a pint of blood. In her latest newsletter, Marcia tells us:

Ever wonder about the legendary ~BALBOA CAFÉ~ burger? Now's your chance: they will be dishing out a free Balboa Burger to anyone who donates a pint of blood aboard Blood Center of the Pacific's (BCP) bloodmobile parked outside on Thursday, April 3, 1pm–6pm. To donate blood, one must be healthy, at least 17 years old and weigh 110 pounds or more (you hear that, tiny Marina girls?). To schedule an appointment time, please contact Emily Thrasher, e_thrasher@plumpjack.com or 415-346-5712. Walk-in donors will also be accepted. To make an appointment online, visit www.bloodheroes.com.

Presumably the gays cannot give blood along with the anorexic Marina girls. Alas. But still, the remaining 95% (okay, fine--65%) of our readership should contact Emily Thrasher for nice, juicy, thick, warm hamburger in exchange for having more than a cup of blood pumped out of your system via a thin, hollow needle. Mmm.

Tiger Attack Update: Tiger Taunted, Says Report

According to police reports Paul Dhaliwal admitted to "standing atop a railing of the big cat enclosure and yelling and waving at t...

SF News

blood

carlos sousa

Carlos Sousa Jr

Christmas

Christmas Day

evidence

Grey Goose

hearings

Jr

Kulbir Dhaliwal

Mary Jane

Paul Dhaliwal

sf

sf zoo

sfzoo

tatiana

tiger

tiger attack

tigerattack

Brock Keeling

According to police reports Paul Dhaliwal admitted to "standing atop a railing of the big cat enclosure and yelling and waving at the animal that would later maul them," killing Carlos Sousa Jr. on Christmas Day at the SF Zoo.

The trio, it seems, were also hopped up on mary jane and expensive vodka. Toxicology reports turned up numbers indicating that Paul was especially wasted during the attack. His blood alcohol level was 0.16 percent after Tatiana's reign of terror, "twice the legal threshold for drunkenness." ("Threshold for drunkenness." Heh.) Kulbir Dhaliwal's blood alcohol level came out to 0.04 percent, and lightweight Sousa's was at 0.02 percent. According to the Gate:

Police said they had recovered messages and images but apparently nothing incriminating in connection with the tiger attack. Investigators seized a small amount of marijuana as well as a partially filled bottle of Grey Goose vodka from the car, according to the inventory that police submitted from the search.

They also found a kit commonly used to defeat drug testing, which included a vial of unisex synthetic urine, police said. Paul Dhaliwal was on probation stemming from a drunken driving incident that occurred before the attack.

It seems that said proof is in the form of a footprint and blood found inside the tiger enclosure at the SF Zoo. According to the kids down at KCBS:

...a significant amount of blood was found on an exhibit sign inside the tiger enclosure, a foot and a half from the public railing. The blood on the sign indicates someone may have climbed the railing and was attacked while standing in the planted area between the moat and the railing.

The source also said a footprint found on top of the three-foot high railing was located on a portion of the railing across from the sign.

Pro-Tatiana activist and SF Zoo spokesperson Sam Singer also confirmed that blood was found on foliage inside the tiger enclosure. But? How it got thee or whose veins the blood ran through prior to spattering remains unanswered. Khulbir and Paul Dhaliwal's team of attorney deny that the boys were inside the enclosure during the now infamous Christmas Day big-cat attack that killed their friend, Carlos Sousa Jr.
