The 49ers venture into the wilds of Jersey this Sunday to war with the New York American football Giants.

Ahhh, crap. During this week’s practice, 49er OLB Manny Lawson tore an ACL and will be out for the 2007 season. This is a mighty blow to the nascent Niner defense, who had been counting on the former first-round pick to lend his 6’5” frame and sprinter’s speed to the linebacking corps this year.

After staunching out the Arizona Cardinals last week, the Niners head to St. Louis to try to get ahead at the expense of the reeling Rams and claw ahead in the NFC West race.

Thank goodness. Let the blessed distraction begin. For just a little while, there there be kickoffs and touchdowns and the illusion of a level playing field. Tonight, it's time for the National Football League's 2007 regular season to begin. Wonderful.

It doesn't matter that QB Brett Favre is a hero, plays like he loooves the game, is an uncriticizable Maya Angelou-grade national hero -- choosing not to retire and coming for another season to play quarterback for the Packers stunted the Green Bay franchise's growth by a year.

Having the number one pick in the 2007 NFL Draft, that is. After losing horrifically to the Houston Texans 23-14 in a home game where the dauntless Raider Power Mullet defense limited Yoostun to 32 yards passing yards and still lost!

* Houston vs. Oakland Sunday, December 3, 2006. 1:15 PM, PST. Week 13 The Battle Of The Trough After losing four straight games to every team in the AFC West and one franchise that used to be in the division for good measure (@SEA; DEN; @KC; @ SD), the Raiders limp home. In uglier times early on this season before the wins versus ARI and PIT, this Week 13 game against the flailing Houston Texans had been projected as the Raiders' best chance to get a win.

Ahhh crap, 49er WR Antonio Bryant got nailed for DUI on Sunday night after the big win over the Seahawks. Bryant had two catches for 21 yards in the game. And later, 'round midnight, Mr. Reformed Hothead was clocked above 100 mph in a 2005 Lamborghini between Redwood City and San Mateo. Moron.

Our capable and attractive SFist Editor Jon has been all over this story like Sara Lee on cherry pie. Bless him.

An exasperating, sodden, miscue-filled loss for our Raiders up in Seattle yesterday. What sort of headline should a recap of this game have? We explored this thought, and here's what we came up with. You should add some more in the Comments section. Here we go:

On an average Autumn Sunday, the current Chicago Bears are among the most powerful squads in the National Football League. So, this past Sunday, when the 49ers went on over to Soldier Field to face Da Bears, our team was torn apart on defense and on offense. Why? Third down problems on both offense and defense.

Yes indeed, it's Week Eight of the National Football League's 2006 regular season here in the Bay Area. Almost Halloween. There will be as few Halloween-related puns as is possible. It's not like we're SI's Peter King or something.

Yatta! Our Raiders got that first win over the pathetic Arizona American football Cardinals! Thank goodness. Well, phew, that means no more "winless season" jabs. "The only thing more embarrassing than the franchise are the fans that support them," said American Football Spectacular's Arizona correspondent Chesko. "They've accepted perennial defeat to the point that Bengals and Browns fans can turn their noses up at the desert simply because they were good at least once." The Cards have fans? Must be a tough road to hoe. Unenviable.

Week Seven of the National Football League's 2006 regular season dawns cold and crisp over our Bay Area teams. The Indian Summer is breathing its last and Autumn is seeping in. The advent of Halloween has always ever been a big deal here in the Bay Area. People are plotting their outfits. Candy clots our drug stores. Elaborate plans are made. It is a time when the Bay Area's wide swath of culture is one to be savored.

Doesn't look good for our two Bay Area teams in this Week Six of the NFL's 2006 regular season. Both the 49ers and the Raiders seem outmatched against the two most powerful squads in the AFC West. Let's take a look.

This Sunday, the time has come. This Sunday marks the most significant Northern California American football game of the 2006 season: The Battle Of The Bay is here.

O, the pain. Not so much a piercing pain, more of an overall pain, as though Half Dome's other half had fallen on top of of us while napping. Our 49ers were destroyed by the Kansas City Chiefs by a score of 41-0. Forty-one to nothing! At least now The Raider Nation has something to gloat about. It was the most complete loss by the Niners in recent memory. And the worst part was how dispassionate the Chiefs seemed as they went about their business of rackin' up the points. Almost a soft dictation of game tempo. A laugh here or there on the sideline, but the KC team was merely getting things done. No big deal to them.

It's Week Four of the National Football League's 2006 regular season. Things have been tough. How’ve you been? Here's what happening with your Niners and Raiders for this October 1st

It's Week Three of the National Football League's 2006 regular season. Here's what happening with your Niners and Raiders.
