Christopher Owens, the lead singer and songwriter for the Bay Area's own Girls is leaving the band. A few minutes ago Owens tweeted a three-part message that read in part, "Dear all, This may come as a surprise to many…I am leaving Girls. My reasons at this time are personal. I need to do this in order to progress. I will continue to write & record music. More will be announced soon. I thank you all for everything."

According to the band's other half, bassist and songerwriter Chet "JR" White, everything was peachy last fall. "Personally, the band gets along well—they're all the best people we've had in the band so far," he told Seattle Weekly. "[The tour] couldn't be any better, really." So far, White hasn't responded to Owens' announcement via the band's Twitter account, which he runs.
