We can't find any coverage of it online yet, but your reports to us say that it was a media circus, and moderately-well-attended by pro Ed Jew folks. Joe O'Donoghue seems to have gotten over his whole "pregnancy brain" thing with Amy Lee enough to give a stemwinder of a speech, accusing various other elected officials of not living in their districts either. Of our DA, he said, "Kamala Harris is the Duke prosecutor of San Francisco."

Reading Alex's comments, I have not laughed that hard for a long, long time. Priceless, you can't make this stuff up.
As an Asian American and being half-Chinese, I don't think that the way the press and other city government officials treating Ed Jew is not based on his ethnicity or racial background.
Ed simply broke a bunch of rules:
--Ethics, you don't take money from others. That's called a bribe. Unfortunately, it was a Chinese American based tapioca drink company; but it is just the same if a non-Chinese business (McDonalds, In-n-Out, etc.) bribed too.
--If you don't live in SF (live on the property, not just own it), why the hell run for a high profile government job? Eventually, he would get caught for that.
Basically, he's "fucked" and the troubles just don't magically disappear if he resigns or gets kicked out through the process. I'd personally would keep hounding him for surrendering to cops in Burlingame, because that's just an easy way to admit that you don't live in SF.
Think of the Newsom "alcohol" scandal, the media pounded him for weeks, but did anyone think of it as ethnicity/race? I think not.
Ed Jew supporters look like fools. The man broke several laws, which is why he's charged with NINE FELONIES. Lying about where he lived had other implications beyond being a SF Supervisor. He got a drivers license using the phony address; that's illegal. He registered to vote using the phony address; that also illegal. Then he actually voted in that district; yet another felony. People may say these aren't like rape and murder, but the law considers them serious criminal violations.
And even if he DID live on 28th Avenue, there's still the issue that he shook down the Quickly people for $40,000, which he took IN CASH. That cannot be explained innocently. A suitcase full of $20 bills is never innocent.
He may be a nice guy .... but fairness demands equal enforcement regardless of how nice he is.

Take it for what it's worth. I want to be a good commenter. But I have every reason to stay anonymous. I work for Ed. One post. No followups. This is both most interesting and most unofficial site I could find. Simply, two stories to get off my chest as I watch my hard work falling apart -
1. "They never check."
During the '06 campaign, I was putting up signs while Ed was doing his "meet & greets" on Taraval. We stopped by his house to pick up something. It was vacant. I asked to use the bathroom. Ed said it wasn't working. I said I heard that supes are supposed to live in their respective districts. Ed said "they never check."
2. The "Why Not?"
Long story short. The Wonderful Foods - Quickly saga was mostly the greedy, trifling, hair-brained work of people much smaller than Ed. When I first heard the proposal to approach the first Quickly with a proposal, I asked, "Why get involved over pennies?". Ed replied, "Why not?"
I was going to share a third story called "Who cares if there's a reporter outside Taraval Station?," but it's pointless.
I feel like I've lived a bad sequel to "Final Destination," since I was unable to prevent the outcome; even a fraction thereof.
Final thought - With friends, lawyers and advisors like that, who needs enemies?

Joe O'Donoghue is THE BIGGEST CROOK in SF and it's no suprise he is supporting the Jewster. A quick take on Joe. A friend of mine needed to get a permit to start construction on a building and Joe said to him "a donation to the RBA would probably get that permit thing moving" I believe the amount was in the tens of thousands. Did anyone wonder why he was so against Amy Lee's appointment? Without control of the process he wouldn't be able to blackmail people into donating to the RBA. What a complete joke. Him sticking up for Jew is like Scott Peterson sticking up for OJ.
Issues of residency and qualification for office are, sadly, not as clear cut as one might think.
In the Daily Journal, they had a legal article which explained several cases where the appeals court had made counterintuitive findings on residency.
In Groveland, above Priest Grade on 120 towards Yosemite, an elected member of some district owned a home in the district and was registered to vote in the district. She also owned a home outside the district where she lived and registered her homeowner's property tax exemption. A cop lived in her house in town as a caretaker. The appeals court found she was qualified to serve in the district where she owned property and registered to vote. Go figure.
What we're seeing here is a squeeze play cooperation between Harris and Herrera. Herrera sets a deadline for producing evidence as to residence, and Harris forces Jew to choose between his freedom and office with the criminal charges.
We can expect Newsom to suspend Jew next week for not forfeiting his 5th amendment rights and to then initiate official misconduct removal at Ethics and the Board of Supervisors.
I do not believe that there is any way that Jew can stay the quasi judicial nature of official misconduct in light of preserving his 5th amendment rights, and there is no guarantee that the Mayor, Ethics or Board of Supervisors has to apply the law to an Official Misconduct proceeding.
