The budget process is always dramatic and I don't know that Supervisor Daly made it any the worse this year. Supervisor Daly was correct to challenge the mayor on priorities. Supervisor
Daly was correct to stand for those with little voice in this privilaged billionaire boys club adminsitration. Gavin doesn't have to worry about housing costs or where his medical treatments will come from but tens of thousands of poor, working class San Franciscans do (Gavin, they are the same ones who don't ride the getty jet to switzerland for vacations).Supervisor Peskin made a huge mistake by removing Chris and kissing gavins ass and it won't be forgotten.
Daly getting booted from the budget chairmanship made my day. Doesn't everyone know that Chris is just making sure his buddy-buddy housing developers get their kickback? He may have compassion for the downtrodden, but he's a pol like all the others now.
As for Gavin having money, so what. FDR was as rich as they come and see what he did. Everyone, rich and poor alike will benefit from the items in Mr. Newsom's budget. Kudos to Peskin for doing the right thing.

Thank God Supervisor and Board President Peskin recognized Chris Daly's politicking instead of governing and smacked his hand by removing him from the Chair position.
Supervisor Daly's intentions are certainly good - especially restoring the funding for HIV/AIDS services that was cut by the Federal Government and paying for additional beds for mentally ill patients. However, the $5 million or so for that piece, the sensible piece at this time, could've been pulled out of the street paving funds. Supervisor Daly, as I have been posting ad nauseum the last couple of weeks, was totally off base trying to pull dollars away from the Mayor's proposed budget for public safety at this point in time.
We need to cut down on murders and muggings. We need to make drivers fear getting a traffic ticket for breaking our speed limits, sometimes leading to unnecessary injuries and deaths of pedestrians and bicyclists.
I find this all very funny, Daly and Matt Gonzalez both grew up quite wealthy. Gavin grew up middle class with his mother who was a waitress. Yes he had very rich neighbors and family friends and did quite well for himself, but I think he has more understanding of middle class struggle than Chris Daly does.

First, give Fog City the credit for breaking this story last week. It should be no surprise to anyone who reads my rants. I've chronicled Peskin's move to the right since his vote in favor of Home Depot a couple of years back.
What's it mean? Well, the Budget Chair is the prize appointment at the Board and Peskin had Daly sitting there for 3 years, I believe. His Chairmanship of Finance gave him the gravitas to balance his 'bad boy' image and achieve re-election in a campaign where he was outspent 5-1 by Downtown. Many thanks to Aaron for this.
Future? Well, looks like Chris is going to have plenty of time on his hands until Aaron is termed-out next year. What to do. What to do. Oh, he could run for Mayor.
Again, thanks to Peskin for the work he has done for the Progressive movement over these past years. Like King David, who spent 10 years as a Philistine general in his middle years, we hope Aaron will eventually return to the tribe.

More reason for citizens to get involved and to be vigilent about keeping Chris and others in touch with what the City needs overall. See front page of San Francisco Chronicle today - people living in fear in their homes..."affordable homes." We need more police.
i love how h keeps pimping fog city journal because its the only place that will publish him. it is safe to think h is reviled in all camps now except the whores who need pub like angela alioto and her loser family. and of course the real whores who sleep around for the chance to be media whores. hmmm, like who? most indymedia in this town are just scumbags as are the pols they pal with and take their money like daly. all your days will come.

if daly doesn't walk away with his tail between his legs and hopefully learn something from the SMACKDOWN, we'll have plenty of time in the year left of aaron' term to get rid of daly for good. he should have never left baltimore, or did he get kicked out after flunking out of high school?
