Lots of accident-related news today. First off -- crank up "Livin' On A Prayer" because like Bon Jovi says, it's slippery when wet. A sudden downpour in Santa Clara led to 13 -- yes, that's 13, not a typo -- separate accidents in under an hour on three separate highways -- 280, 680, and 87. No one was seriously injured, but a few drivers were taken to the hospital, and traffic was a nightmare. CHP reminds everyone that it's not just the rain's fault if you're speeding. Man, what a way to kick 13 people when they're down.

Good news! Remember Benjamin Weaver, the African-American hit and run victim that Walk SF pointed out got no $10,000 reward even though there were no leads in his case? Well, the SFPD arrested two people in connection with that case today. Someone called in a report of a van being stripped of parts. When the cops caught the people stripping the van, they found evidence in their getaway car that matched the evidence at Weaver's death. They then went to the driver's house, and found the van that hit Weaver, at which point the driver confessed. (The other guy was arrested as an accessory.)

And finally, Caltrain is launching a pilot program to aggressively crack down on absent-minded pedestrians who wander onto the train tracks. Teams will target a station a month and issue citations. The accident that triggered this was the woman killed in February at Redwood City. Turns out she had her iPod on. She ducked under the crossing arm thinking that the northbound train had already left, but then was hit by the oncoming southbound one.
